ok thank you bro.. hope 85Mb/s is 5d3 raw's (or mlv's) and not dslr's 1920X1080 (h.264)

hi, sorry if this is a basic question and i do not know this. Data rate of dslr is 50Mbps, prores 220Mbps, R3D is 150 MB/s, Cdng from blackmagic is also the same. But I wanted to know what is the data rate of cdng from 5d3 mlv files? In other words, in what rate should the transfer of 5d3 mlv cdngs files be, into an editing software for real time playback? thanks

guys what raid device should i buy for editing? I have approximately 9TB footage.

hi friends.. am on the process of following the above instructions. Really helpful.. thanks a lot. Will ask if there is any clarifications.

I am using PC, so for proxies I choose DNxHD 36, but even then rendering occurs in only 5 to 6 frames per second. Why is that? any settings need to be changed?

My computer details:
32GB RAM
GTX 780 3GB
intel i7 4770 3.40GZ

i have lots of files in computer, every hard drive is full.. will dat be a reason?

But the problem occurs in other hard drives too, different files. So i don't think hard drive is going bad.

i used kdiff3.. the output comparison was unreadable, with different signs and symbols, may be it is not the type of file the software compares. I also compared the .mrx file coming out of the mlv files after being played in mlrawviewer. They were unreadable too.. However, there were highlights showing differences (from this unreadable type of output) between the two files. I take it that even if the file was readable, there would have been difference.. right? Am checking with my hard disk, anyways.

faced the same problem on another pc too..

Hi friends, Does MLRawviewer 1.2.3 or any version change the .mlv file characteristics (permanently)? Because the pink horizontal line problem that I am facing for a couple of months now seems to arise after being played in MLRawviewer. That pink strand is present in cdng extracts too and also seen in rendered output from editing or color correction software. The same file I had as a backup in another folder, when played for the first time in MLRawviewer did not show the pink lines. This is not always true as I also see pink lines in some first time opened mlv footage too. I use mlrawviewer a lot as i see 50-100 footage as rushes daily.

So just wanted to know if the viewer changes the characteristics of mlv file permanently. I am using april 2014 build ML, MLrawviewer1.2.3 and raw2cdng 1.6.1.

Hi friends, I am getting a pink horizontal strand or lines at different frames in 5d3 .mlv footage while playing in MLRawviewer. These lines remain when imported to Resolve and even after being exported. The strange thing is that I accidentally opened the same file, which I had as a backup, in another folder and that file copy did not show any pink strand or line and is clear!

How this occurs? How can it be solved? Is this because of the viewer? or repetitive playing of footage or many footage (because i use it for serious video purpose, i see rushes of 100s of footage a day)? I am currently solving the pink line problem using photoshop (by removing the pink cdng picture and replacing with adjacent cdng pic). Now i understand the problem is not in the making. Something is wrong with processing or software or player.... I am using april 2014 build ML, MLrawviewer1.2.3 and raw2cdng 1.6.1. Below are the two pics at the same frame of same file from different folders, showing pink and nopink line. Pls help me to solve this problem. Thank you.

hi DPmikey, I once had the same problem. The possible reason could be that Resolve color corrects certain frames and certain remain. This causes the flash (corrected and original flashing). Click "ouput field as single source" in General Option under Master Setting. This would work as it worked for me for a while. I got the problem again. It is definitely to do with frame rate per second settings. Now, after I start using Resolve LITE, I face NO problem. It is all fine.... Hope that helps.

this is a wonderful thread for 5d3 guys, I hope there will be more conversation in here.

Raw Video / Re: CF card validity for ML
August 21, 2014, 03:03:49 PM
i usually format the cf cards in the computer under exfat option...I got pink strand problems in certain frames for which I heard was because of card over-usage. I then started to format the cf card in camera itself.. I continue getting the same problem, sometimes worse.

Raw Video / CF card validity for ML
August 19, 2014, 08:25:17 PM
Hi.. I am using ML 5d3 raw for serious video purposes. I have shot over 10TB to 12TB footage. Of late, I have facing problems like pink strands and black frames etc.,. I just wanted to know if my three Lexar 1000X 64GB cards read with Lexar Professional USB3.0 reader got overused. Should i change the cards? thanks
#38
thanks guys... Interesting thing is the same footage played after a couple of days did not show any such pink lines..... I got those pink strands in cdng files too after extraction. But after a couple of days, no problem, like a magic. i'm using Lexar professional 1000x 64GB card and Lexar card reader....What would the problem be? thanks

Hi.. I can see pink lines flashing then and there in .mlv footage shot with 5d mark III, July build of magic lantern. Please help me fix this problem for the already shot videos. The lines show up in many footage..

All the footage are important because of its video purpose. How can I also prevent anything like this? Thanks

hi chmee, with beta 6, audio sync in resolve works with certain footage and some others are wrongly synced. Same audio synced twice to different footage.

Just another note which i wanted to share is that, i used to optimize the flickering problem in resolve by changing file name codes in raw2cdng. I had to work with .raw files and .mlv files together for a project. A single timeline in resolve having both raw's cdng and mlv's cdng really threatened me regarding flickering issues. However, i went through resolve's manual and now one can overcome the flickering issue by checking the "Output single field when paused" option from "General Options" in resolve. It worked for me (but I also changed file naming in converter). Hope the solution works and has nothing to do with file naming... thanks

hi, am using 5d3 113, April 30th build, MLV. The audio files are at least 8 milliseconds leading... ex: if the video is 0:53:04, audio is 0:53:13... For every file, this is the case. In resolve, i right click in master and select "autosync based on timecode" it syncs but some footage incorrectly. I will have to do it manually. Since am using for a serious video purpose, i have lots of footage and manual syncing and trimming the extra audio is hectic. Also, this causes flickering issue in resolve after color correction. How can i rectify the audio-video time code non-alignment? thanks...
#43
I ll notice the timecode next time when it flickers. I think those are random flickerings based on the amount of color change that we do. I do not get flickering, what so ever, if I use LUTs and do nothing else. I face the problem only when i manually color correct the footage.
#44
thanks, with irfanview, cdngs are fine. But the flickering issue is NOT while importing the cdngs. The problem arises after I do color corrections (in playbacks & rendered outs). The color changes won't apply to certain frames. For ex: among 700 frames, the erroneous frames are around 300 or something. They keep on blinking indicating that the color corrections have not been worked on those 300 frames. I found that it has to do something with raw2cdng. When certain parameters are changed in raw2cdng, the flickering reappears. Every time (during updates or whatever), I optimize the roundtrip - resolve is a headache :(

The flickering is a very common problem in resolve (i googled it) and the below link shows the same problem that I face:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zq_Nhkoz0KU

There are so many reasons for flickering. Mainly, it is related to frames and frame rates, i think. With older versions of raw2cdng, when I faced problems in 23.976 conversion, there was flickering. Now in beta 3, everything is fine, unless I stick to certain keys, like naming in [f]_[d] and 16bit maximized options.

I use .mlv files for processing. Latest build 5d3 113. Beta 3 converter.

Flickering is caused by Resolve. Flickering is like lightning occurring on the whole frame (not at the top or bottom, but as a whole). The color correction does not apply to certain frames and those frames show, among the other colored frames, like flickerings or lightning. This is seen in the rendered output and obviously when roundtrip-ped back into premiere.
#46
chmee, i was telling about the flickering issue in resolve. Now when i turn "delta pink highlights" in raw2cdng and process further, i get flickering issues during roundtrip between resolve and premiere. When i turn the delta pink highlights off, the flickering issue solves... Just wanted to say the converter influences everything (an advantage of course) ;) With [f]_[d] naming, 16bit maximized and everything else turned off, the roundtrip is good without flickering in resolve. Of course i had to link the media pool manually (problem between adobe and resolve :()

in 5d3, under Debug, i see File Manager > A:/ > DCIM > 100EOS5D > there is file (xxx.mlv) and mlv_rec.tmp. When i hit play, a green dot selects the file and when i press SET, there is a list of options under FILE MANAGER: copy, move, delete, clear selection, select *.mlv............ yeah and without the green dot selection, i get "view" after pressing SET. This playback is similar to what i get when i hit the play button directly after shooting the file. Approx. 10 frames per second.. am i right? thanks

hi updated the latest build and the playback is now approximately 10 frames/second, low saturation look. I think its better now. I wish this is how it will be or am I to turn on something to get real time playback? Also, how should I play files from file manager? thanks

hi again, I used the naming code [F]_[D] in beta 3 converter. Selected cdng 16bit maximized. Did a roundtrip in resolve and premiere cc. Worked fine, there was no flickering issue in the color corrected outputs. Thanks.
