Feature Requests / Re: Single frame info in the video
September 03, 2012, 11:44:10 PM
Well as some of the camera operators only film but have to say most indie film makers would film plus also edit.

Well if the administrative work is already done in the camera be easier later in post. Have to say for everybody be useful able to seperate shots easier as if you be filming allot of things and easy forget what you shot.

Well for the more professional level guys be a great feature, as professionally you have to record sound on an external medium as the best be to have seperate guys for camera and seperate for sound. Basically be a digitized slate as everybody still really use it in filming movies, still see allot of people using slate apps or using actual slates. This be a very professional feature on the camera itself, which replaces them.

For me as I edit for movies and also lifestyle tv programs, especially lifestyle tv while they have limited time they often shoot stuff so unorganized I often don't know what shot is for which. A build in camera slate would be awesome so they can set things like.

Title/Info: type a title of movie or specific information like name of the person you interview ( if making a typing system would be to difficult, could also generate it from author name or copyright information of the camera itself which has a typing system and could generate the information).
time : Auto generate with internal clock
Camera # : set manually
Scene # : set manually
Slate # : set manually
Take# : manually set & edit, plus auto count and reset
Ext Sound record # : manually set & edit, plus auto count and reset

FOV: CU, MS, MID_S, TS, LS, Tilt, OSS, OSSR
Roll: A/B just to organize stuff for edit interview what shots are main of the interview itself and B rolls to edit in.

White balance: just to see if they did a mistake change by accident, so I know the footage need some color correction. And see how much it differs.
ISO: not much as the brightness can see difference by eye.
Shutter speed: maybe so able to know if frame blending is needed if they used to high shutter.

Rest of camera setting or lens used might only be useful for the guys who does camera equipment reviews but don't think me as editor need to know what lens was used.

Also how I see the footage in Premiere is when I double click a footage it opens on a extra monitor where I directly see the first frame and can play the video and trim the sections I need for the edit and drag those into the timeline. But when I open the footage inside premiere I would directly see just the first frame of the video.

Mov file, so when you open any of the filmed mov file inside any video editing program, the very first frame of the video you see informations displayed instead of what you are filming and rest of mov be stuff that you have filmed.

Basically generate one frame of info that would only overlap the first frame of the video and be recorded into the mov. As I saw image effects is possible so maybe its possible to generate elements that can be recorded into the video.

Hardware and Accessories / Re: Canon 50mm 1.8

I havent had a problem yet as I saw people breaking it by turn far to hard. Also storing in the bag is best to turn the lens back into the body which is safer and better for the lens then not doing it. Other problem is so much dust can easily get into the lens. And no way could clean it easily.

Its a cinema lens so the aperture ring is now much smoother to turn and dont click which mean you can set also inbetween aperture other than just standard f-stop numbers you see on normal lenses. Also you can do iris pulls with those lenses which be smooth change with out having jumpy fstop changes like normal lenses. With that meaning you can quickly change the amount of light hitting the sensor easier walking from a dark room to a sunny outdoor and do an iris pull to cope with the brightness.

Rokinon wont have camera control and the chip only give you focus confirm in photo modes. The aperture and focus will be only manual. For the t2i or any of the crop sensor range 35mm is a nice lens as is it almost like using a 50mm on a full frame. As 50mm on a crop sensor often feels to tele and not have the same FOV as what you want to shoot.

All parts can be bought and dont need any machining, drilling or sawing as all parts fit together to be build into a rig.

Feature Requests / Single frame info in the video

I wonder is it possible for Magic lantern to possible generate a image captured in the very first frame with certain information, as now can do effect to change stuff in the videos. Like have a log menu where you can set scene, slate, shot. Have like also auto shot counter so you dont have to worry about it.  Maybe extra be external sound which you can set an extra counter which you can set to the numbers you want but auto count when you shoot, this makes it easier to find the right number files in post to edit.

Basically in editing that I can just look at the info just in the very first frame, as external log is quite annoying as you have to much files to search for the info. While if its in the video itself would make things much easier.

Also info maybe from the copyright section of the camera as you then can easily use that menu to change the name of the movie for example. Or if it is possible with Magic lantern to able to write a title or info. Especially for interview be handy to write name of the person you interview, as they be there and can ask the correct information as be stored in the video file so you can write the right title in post.

I know there are software to sync sound but I rather have sort out or quick edit the shots and after do the sound sync with those softwares. Especially when you shot allot of takes to sync all NG with the good shots would take too much time for those programs to process it.

However all the other log info be handy as allot of them be lost if you have a intermediate conversion before you edit as some people convert to proress and would lose info that be normally stored in the vid, especially like the time this video been made will have a different time then actually shot time after the conversion.

Hey could someone make a cropmark that shows the area of 1280x720 when you are filming 1920x1080. This way I could film stuff for 720 but have the extra space to do some zoom in and out in post.

Feature Requests / Re: Manual flash

In standard menu you can control the flash manually , pre flash is a hidden setting in the canon standard menu. Its a focus assist beam you have to turn off.  Check the 550D manual for that.

Feature Requests / Fast forward in video replay
August 18, 2012, 11:07:18 AM
Currently how Canon set the menu is kinda annoying to fast foward you need to hold the next frame button and only after few frames it start jumping bigger ammount of frames but its annoying compared to just fast forward as they do now have a slomo view button, so it is possible just to have a fast forwards view of the videos?

I noticed the selftimer light is a pretty bright light too bad on the t2i its red, but i donno some might want to try filming with a red light as its better than nothing , but I remember certain models I think it was the 7D which the light was white instead of red. On some of the camera's they can use it for focus assist and it quite bright. I am unsure which color it is on other models than the t2i. But I wonder if it is possible to switch that LED light on the front of the camera on to use as a light source. You never know it might be useful or handy to have as an option.

Feature Requests / Use the screen as a ligth?
August 17, 2012, 08:09:18 PM
I donno if this is clever or stupid but I wonder if it is possible to make use of the flip out monitor to set it to max brightness and set to be white and shine on your subject if you really don't have any otherway to light up your subject a bit in dark areas. I know you cant see what you shoot but sometimes if just a tripod still shot with everything marked you don't need to see what you are shooting. Or have this possible with an external monitor so the onboard monitor be used as light or the external become a light while you can still see on your normal monitor. What do you guys think is it possible and do you think this could be useful if you find yourself in a dark situation you need to film but have no lights.

Feature Requests / Re: In-Camera movie trimming

be great if you can edit the movie able cut whole thing together and refine the edit some more when you get home, but that be pushing it way too much.

Hey Cosmo since you are the expert picture style maker here , I have another request if that is not a problem, as for ISO25 setting there are a problem with it as it will give a pinkish cast if you use it. Would you think you be able to make a picture style that would clean it. That be a big help for the community so people would be able to use that low iso with less of a problem and dont need to color correct afterwards. Try out the iso25 and see if you could do it. Thanks in advance m8  :)

Its been told before you will get a color cast and need to color correct this in post.

General Development / Re: Old lenses and aperture
August 03, 2012, 11:09:23 PM
I got the same lens congrats, currently using nd filters with it to shoot during the day. Be great if the lens was able to work normal, able to focus plus aperture control. But enjoy the high quality of it.

Hardware and Accessories / Re: Next best camera for ML
August 03, 2012, 11:02:50 PM
600D is currently only one having the digital zoom which is an awesome feature able to film even with the kitlens much longer range, also still keeps good quality if you dont zoom in too much.
#69
Thanks for clearing it up! Any possibility of more isolated colors picture style for like blue? Especially be cool if for instance filming certain companies isolated the company colors.
#70
I find magic zoom very useful, yet sometimes it gets in the way when something goes towards that corner it be blocked. Focus Peaking is great but yet sometimes also it covers up all the edges blocking me to see if it is in focus or not. Mostly the problem is with wider lenses and makes it harder to see if it is in focus or not, with longer lenses the dof plus seeing things close up makes it easier to see by eye if things are in focus or not.

General Chat / Re: T4i-650D-how long will it take?
August 01, 2012, 09:54:34 AM
From test I dont see muchh significant improvements over the 600D, the ISO noise is the same. And the big downer for me is that it does not have the 3x-10x digital zoom. Actually at the current time I would rather update to 600D or wait for the 700D.

General Chat / Re: Black Magic cinema camera
August 01, 2012, 09:42:31 AM
I recently played around with 5d mrk3 and man the focal lenght with 550d is so different and different feel of the dof. I dont think i would ever go with anything that crops further than 1.6x as me 550D i already feel it looks horrible compared to a full frame, especially using wide angle lenses the full frame is just awesome. So the crop factor of 2.4x sounds horrible and 2K actually i dont really care much about that as its just slightly bigger. I rather buy the 5d mrk3 with that money instead, cause of the full frame sensor, you need to have tested it to really know how awesome it is.

Switch batteries plus keep them in a bag where they don't get hot from the sun or hot from your body heat, use a rig if you want to do handheld shots to lessen the amount of body heat transfer. Have a umbrella girl next to ya keeping you in the shades.

You know if you just only wanted to go macro you could had bought a special adapter called reverse kitlens adapter. It basically flips the kitlens around putting the mount on the front which cost you like 5 or 10 bucks to buy the adapter.

Canon EF 70-210mm f4 is old one not the L series white which are 70-200mm f4. The 70-210mm has macro plus its continues aperture makes it great for filming without exposure change. It should be around 100bucks or less if you can find it. Here is a link to a review of the lens http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/70-210mm.htm
