After taking quite a big series of dual iso photos on my Canon 50D I've noticed that each and every one DNG created has white balance values off by about -500K, +30 tint (in ACR) compared to non-dual-iso photos taken in the same circumstances. As this value is quite constant, is it cr2hdr error or some ACR bug in reading "As shot" value from DNG?

Additionally, here's one conversion that gives strange results:
CR2: https://mega.co.nz/#!Yc9VFC6T!cidlsw8J2YOGGTVnsmTzlVjuPK8v8MtM4oAZTK_Sgrs
DNG: https://mega.co.nz/#!oQs0kYob!NLGjazsBAfPAuhBT4KuUN0vwUw8kbPlp2kIK3oqgS8Q

Nvm my prev post. I think the speed of showing histogram and ettr message was slower, because I used slower CF card.

I've tried aettr+dualiso on latest nightly on 50D. The messages after each shot (in autosnap) are slower now, which makes it harder to be sure the exposure is settled (no beeps here). Besides, turning raw zebras on shows underexposed areas and draws it quite slowly in image review + making it hard to see the photo – screenshot: . Turning it off doesn't help in message speed, though.

I've downloaded cr2hdr.zip from OP today (I don't know when it was updated) and found out dcraw.exe included there requires cygwin1.dll installed, which might be an issue sometimes. Previously it shipped with a standalone version (200k bigger). Reverting back to previously included dcraw.exe works fine I think (I hope no new dcraw.exe features are required?)

Here's part of my old post about format alignment and how to do it in Windows (http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=6554.msg55959#msg55959):

"I reformatted the card:

diskpart
list disk

select disk [...] <- I chose the disk with 29GB, same order as in diskmgmt.msc
clean
create partition primary align=4096

Then format in explorer - fat32, 64kb, quick.

To check:
wmic partition get BlockSize, StartingOffset, Name, Index
StartingOffset divided by BlockSize should be a multiple of 4096 I think? (...)"

And here's the mentioned diskat_gui (Disk Alignment Test) – I haven't tested it, though: http://download.cnet.com/Disk-Alignment-Test/3000-18512_4-75795945.html

I'm currently working on a module that "remembers" settings like drive mode, metering, ... between modes, and I could also extend this for example to remember if ettr, dual_iso, auto_iso, ... were enabled in this specific mode. But there has to be an "opt in" list.

It would be great. "Opt in" list – you mean some voting or what?

I'm getting some Dual-ISO files, that do not have "DUAL" prefix and some files with this prefix that are not Dual-ISO. I think this happens especially when I shoot series of photos. AETTR with linked Dual-ISO, Canon 50D, latest nightly (it happened in previous builds, too).

Modules Development / Re: 14bit RAW DNG silent pics!
September 26, 2013, 07:43:26 PM
I've tried using Best Shots options in Silent Pics module (latest nightly, Canon 50D). Each series ended up with first photo OK, all the rest just noise.

Example: https://mega.co.nz/#!IUlBhSCA!f6-9zAjzOfSmSGTGp0jqxHuT4ztIpY-xqwta3rZ-IZU

Burst mode worked fine.

Feature Requests / Quick changing of ML settings
September 26, 2013, 02:20:44 PM
As I'm a hobbyist bird photographer (http://bit.ly/akumiszcza), I sometimes need to change to other subjects for a quick shots. While photographing something using AutoETTR/DualISO etc. this is pretty hard. Even if I change from M to Av mode, for instance, AutoETTR and DualISO still works producing most probably badly exposed photos (at least first series). Turning them off in ML takes precious seconds. What I would really love is one of the following:
1. Use the current option to swap between two different M settings by pressing SET or INFO (Expo Presets). Just adding ML options to it would suffice. One could quickly change from AutoETTR+DualISO to AutoExpose in M mode by pressing one button.
2. All ML options linked to current mode. There would be other options in M mode, other in Av and even Custom modes. One could just switch to Av to make a quick shot and come back to M mode for more "static" AutoETTR+DualISO. Besided, this would be great for videos, too. One could set all relevant Canon options (Jpeg instead of Raw, no auto-off) and video options to one of Custom modes. This could also mean some keys (like SET) could have different actions in different modes – for instance turning video recording in C1, but setting up AETTR in other modes.
3. If above is impossible then maybe: ability to link some options to given mode. For instance, an option in AutoETTR and DualISO to work only in M mode.

i tried tragic lantern and it was even more confusing. I didn't find anything that let me enable raw video. I have a 50d with a shutter count of less than 200. (I got lucky) however I am not gfetting lucky with the raw video. I have a udma7 1000x 64gb card.

You are probably missing some step in installation. Normally you just enable module, restart and set raw video up.

I don't have modules listed anywhere. image effects is the last option in movie mode. first option says movie record and 1920x1080 30fps. I don't see anything anywhere that says rew video

What build/version of ML are you using then? For raw video on 50D get nightly (http://builds.magiclantern.fm/#/) or even better Tragic Lantern builds (https://bitbucket.org/andy600/tl50d/downloads - don't enable script.mo module in last build).

Below is an example of a photo not possible without Dual-ISO. Not a very good one, but you can see both shadows (desks, closed doors), and very bright areas (in open doors). Canon EOS 50D, which is not good for low-light photos. Normally such shot require multiple exposure. In this case people would move and there would be quite a work in Photoshop. The problem is the fringing around people in the door. In my Photoshop CS5 there's no option to remove chromatic aberration in ACR (it appeared in CS6, process 2012), and I don't get good results in Lens Correction filter in Photoshop. I tried it in trial Photoshop CC with somewhat better results, but not great. I guess this is a "special" case of fringing, appearing only in Dual-ISO? Anyways, making near-HDR photos with one shot is a much greater advantage than some additional fringing :)

Today I tested some dual iso + aettr. Notifications after settling ettr is great. Two things I've noticed:
1. In Av mode I sometimes get "ettr settled at iso 0/1600". I think it was when I had auto iso turned on in Av mode.
2. I get some photos without "dual" prefix in filename that are really dual iso. These files even have "Dual-ISO" keyword.

I would love to have an option in Aettr and dual iso to turn it off while not in M mode. Now if I have to take a quick shot without aettr and dual iso I have to turn these off in menus. Using aettr in Av even gives additional problems — if I turn auto iso, the option gets removed by auto ettr in work.

in a time crunch and didn't have time to search... when I recorded my first 30 second clip all I had in the dcim folder was a MVI (MOV) file. no raw files. What did I do wrong? please help. I have a huge project coming monday, the help will be much appreciated.

It looks like you didn't enable raw video in movie settings (at the bottom). Default is h264 mov, if you just enable video recording. Old module creates .raw (and .r00 etc.) in DCIM folder. New module creates .mlv files in root directory of CF card.

Hi Andy!
I´ve installed the last Tragic Lantern Build you recomended and checked the MLV and RAW video modules, as well as Dual Iso ETTR etc..
Then I tryed to go to the menus but they are not there! ie, RAW video and Dual Iso are not there! they´ve dissapeared? or what...??...
Thanks for your great work!
Asier.

I think better not enable both mlv and raw modules. And disable, or even remove, script.mo.

In last TL build (corrected) if I try to load script.mo all modules fail to load with Err - Linking failed.

NEW TRAGIC LANTERN BUILD FOR 50D

I've uploaded a new build of Tragic Lantern for the 50D.

https://bitbucket.org/andy600/tl50d/downloads

Great! I've been waiting for this build. But not because of the things you've mentioned, but auto ettr/dual iso link (I hope it's included). See: AETTR + DUAL ISO: The Ultimate Automated Perfect Image Exposure-Beginners'Guide
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=8322.msg76355#msg76355

Auto snap and always on modes don't work on nightlies, but work on tragic lantern. I can't wait to test the new build on the weekend. Thanks!

AETTR+Dual ISO works great on 50D, too. I've tested it in churches  — before these functions I had to bracket and combine the photos as hdr. Not working for now: auto snap, always on (these work in tragic lantern builds, but no aettr+dual iso combination there yet) and beeps for good/bad ettr and no message if ettr is settled.
#45
I'm testing new build with auto ettr & dual iso link on my 50D. The idea is great, photos look nice. Some issues:
- Quite often auto ettr starts (LV turns on for a split second and turns off), but It does not do anything. It does not say "Expo out of limits" or "Whoops". Thinking it's on I shoot and get much underexposed photo. When I turn LV on and press SET, Auto ETTR works fine. Would it be possible to write "auto ettr ok" on image review after the shot if ettr worked and finished with no errors?
- auto snap and always on does not work on 50D still. It works with 1%'s tragic lantern builds – tl50d compiled by Andy600, but not nightly builds.

It looks like exposure limits for auto ettr is greater than before, too.

I know where nightlies are, Audionut. Anyways I've downloaded latest 50D nightly just now and always on/auto snap does not work.  They work fine in two last TL builds. I'm just saying there is something there that should be probably included in main builds.

The main development line has those features.  Check the OP of this thread ;)

I don't see anything in opening post about this. Settings are fine, the same for TL50D build and nightlies. Auto Snap just doesn't take another photo on my 50D in nightly build (at least several days ago). Or maybe is there a place where I can download newest ettr module alone?

REC key: HalfShutter in movie menu.

Im currently hung up on how to record continuous RAW @ 720p

I have installed ML, and then andy600's TL bin.,

I have changed my settings in camera, to 720p RAW recording, but it just gives me 208 Frames, no more, and stops recording.

is it just that I need a faster CF card? or are there other features I need to make sure are on and off with in the menus

Thanks for read! My current card is 200x.

200x card is too slow for raw. You can get more frames by decreasing fps (eg. to 23.976), turning off Global Draw features, turning on some hack settings in ML. But most probably it will be too slow anyway.
