H.264 is a compression video codec, like a Jpeg but movie format  :)

Can you record video in photo mode on 5D2?! How? (intervalometer doesn't count)

You record video in movie mode. On all ML cameras.

Sorry, i got mixed up, was referring to S jpeg instead of RAW then to movie mode, Was wondering for better write speeds etc does the 7D also need to on S jpeg? Ill edit the question now, sorry about that.

General Help Q&A / 7D Raw video question.
August 06, 2014, 11:30:37 PM
Friend has put latest nightly onto his 7D,

I use a 5Dmkii so im unsure how to setup his 7D for Raw video as it has a full on movie mode, does he press the record button or select like the 5Dmkii?

Does the 7D need to be in S jpeg mode like the mkii or is raw used via movie mode?

He also uses his 7D for production work, does anyone recommend a build thats stable for him to use please?

Any more input info would be great such as settings etc etc, or even a link to any info be great that i can pass on,

Cheers guys!  :)

Quote from: sleepinghouse on July 21, 2014, 08:20:54 AMSigh, the sensor. Nothing magic lantern can do about that. I might be looking into other cameras to shoot higher frame rates. I never thought I would get a GoPro, but I might be at that point.

I have a GoPro Hero 3+ Black, i shoot using Protune (Flat profile with exposure/iso/white balance/sharpness control) which allows for a pretty decent professional grading, when i first shot with it i was upset as my footage looked nothing like GoPro's vids that are out there, but bit of research i found their workflow, they shoot most of their footage @48fps also but place it into a 24fps timeline, when shooting at 24fps the outside of the footage is blurry if doing like POV riding shots, changing to 48fps i noticed a huge difference. ACR now has GoPro Lens profiles too which is nice!

EDIT: Frame rates are if interested. 1080p @24/25/30/48/60  720p @same as 1080p but 720p allows for 120fps! upscales nice to 1080p if using protune mode.

Canon showed the mkii shooting 50/60fps, was going to be in a update few years back but was pulled out, main reason was the full frame sensor not been able to stay cool, new models like the mkiii with full frame have been designed to have the sensor t have more breathing space.. must be other reasons too, if you dont want to spend too much money i recommend the GoPro 3+ Black, loooove mine! hopefully one day ML will run on it :P

Nice Nice... Just a shame your sensor was dirty..

General Help Q&A / Re: .dat file?
June 17, 2014, 06:20:03 PM
Two things id try:

Quicktime (Make sure Perian tool is installed, its a swiss army knife of codecs for Quicktime), open the file, if you get an invalid file try 2nd thing ill add. If the file opens and plays, use quicktime to export it, i highly recommend Quicktime 7 pro as it has much better export settings than Quicktime that is now standard.

2nd thing to try, VLC, and same as above ^

EDIT-UPDATE: Also try changing the .dat to .mov, iv done that a couple o'times n its worked, not always though.

Thank you dsManning,

I have heard of barndoor styles before and when searching them they looked extremely complicated, the one you have posted looks much more simple and easier to follow, thanks again.

ooo, if possible do you have a design layout for it that I can follow please?

EDIT: Sorry just saw you have measurements on the image.. my bad.

He cant of loaded MK2 onto his 550D as a wrong .bin message appears to stop this... unless he found a way round it, sounds to me he was trying to convert his crop sensor full frame  :P
#46
did you disable MLV module whilst RAW module was enabled? If so MLV could of overridden it, correct me if I'm wrong as i have never had both selected.
