The oct 24th a.d. build is the one  I use for Raw try that, you still can
download It .
#1927
Sorry you  see it that way, I couldn't help but Tell the truth.

@Midphase, I have same thoughts exactly! You have very good points that No one will
Address , without being defensive !
All you ever hear is the same BS over & over
How ML is open soure and if you don't like it do it your self etc....
And then the same people will jump all over you when make a suggestion
Or a comment toward the Delveopment of Raw/MLV. To me it seems
There is no direction and if there is , it's known to a FEW Select
People .
And there agian I know everyone will take may comment
Negatively , but it must be said.
I'm absolutely a very big supporter or the ML , if I wasn't
I wouldn't be posting my concerns and be active on the form.
I will have more to say on this topic later on. :)
#1929
What Version of ML are you using ? what build date of Raw/MLV ?
You should not have any problems, so something is not setup right or
Bad install on card, if you could in point form explain how you prepared your card
How did to  make the card bootable? ,what modules did you load ?
If you can share with me the details I can help trouble shoot the problem.

This have been discussed many times before, but in a nut shell
The max sensor size on 5d2 is 1880 not 1920 like 5d3 for video
5d2 use line skipping and pixel binding to get that size,
Where the 5d3 have a completely redesign sensor that uses all lines for video
No pixel binding or line skipping, that's way there is no moiré or aliasing to speak of .
There again that's why the 5d3 have faster CPU, it has to do more etc....

Edit: In Crop mode the window has over 2000 plus lines so you can get 1920x1080 or there about.
So you are using All the lines with out line skipping etc..
So just like it says crop mode is really taking a section of the sensor

No Raid 0 is find as long as you Have backup, I never have lost a Raid 0 yet, but the possible is there.
you could also look at a raid 0+1 which is just a mirrored raid 0 which there again you need 4 drives
but there is redundancy there. One more option is to look at 10,000 rpm WD VelociRaptor 600gb I run them in my
Server , Workstation &  my Older MacPro. There are Cheap now days, just a thought. :)
#1932
Just make sure you backup your Raid 0 , if you lose 1 drive you loose the Raid  :'(
and all data loss. Maybe look at a Raid5 minimum 3 drive, 4 drives would better
and if you loose a drive you are Ok not to mention the increase in speed.
That's my setup Raid5 R/W 425MB/s 450MB/s  :D
Most hi-end Mother board support raid 5, Just my two cents worth.

Yes I have, there is no difference in fact I notice it would slow down
To point where I could no longer get continous recording .
The hotter the card gets the less reliable it becomes & after 10 plus minutes
Which is about 60GB the card get very warm to almost hot
But in a professional work environment you need to have reliable
Cards that are ready to be filled up  continous or not.
I being running on the same Lexar cards since May of 2013.
:)
#1934
No Lexar card are not the one's you need to warmup
You shouldn't have to warm up at all to reach max. Performance
You may have a bad card.
You will get far more stable recording with Global Draw Off.
You only need to see on screen display to adjust exposure etc...
After that you start recording you can't adjust anyways, so I would learn
To work without it then you can get larger stable frame size.

Everything to do with MLV + Audio on All models  -->http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=7122.msg59525#msg59525
Yes Audio Work on 5D3 no problem
Lexar 1000x are very good , but any card that's 1000x or better will work.

Also here is a short tutorial with 5d2 and hdmi hard drive recorder on mlv+audio -->http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5533.msg102567#msg102567
I know these video are for 5D2 and you are looking at a 5D3 but it will give you a idea of what to expect with mlv+audio.
I hope this helps  :)

The optimal setting for the 5D2 for continuous recording with 64GB Lexar 1000x card, at lest for my camera are as follows:
No HDMI attach, Non Crop mode with Feb 4th mlv build from a.d.
1872x938 23.976p + audio
Global Draw Off when recording
Preview Mode - Hack preview or HDMI* preview (note* this is only with a.d.'s builds)
Extra Hacks - On
Frame Over Ride = On (Exact 23.976)
Buffer fill rate - 0 or 1
In the Canon menu I use Small raw in Photo Mode
I posted a short Video about hdmi recorder with 5d2 on the new format mlv+audio
From about the 5:00 to 9:17 I show my setting for raw/mlv, I thinks that should help
If not just ask .

Could you please explain your workflow a little more?
Sure no problem its very simple, open Cdng's and  or dng's image sequence
in After effects ,now you have  access to the ACR panel  save your project as cs6 xml
import A.E. Project in to your premiere pro project.
I posted a short video tutorial , link below

Hope this helps  :)

I agree with you. I just can't find the perfect MLV build for professional work. It is both too finicky and removes features that I like, like the buffer status (but no huge graph) and recording start beep.

No worries though, raw in Oct 24th is great, only thing is the HDMI monitor crash bug but at least I know the workaround. I will be sticking with that one for a while I think.
Use feb 4th a.d. hack crop view mlv built + audio its very stable and still have the buffer status bar overlays, that the one I use for work.
no need to go back to oct24th built unless you need large frame size for long shots.
The Nightly has the buffer bar back in there for debugging in the mlv raw menu, but its still a nightly so
its not always totally functional or things are turn off. :)

I am new to this forum and i apologise if this question has already been asked.

But i would like to know if by using ML i will be able to record audio with video throughout the 5DII onto an Atomos ninja 2?

many thanks every one.
Not sure if you are asking if you can record raw & hdmi signal at the same time ?but to different storage right?
If so I make a short video tutorial that I posted with 5D2 and a ninja with mlv+audio
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5533.msg102567#msg102567
Just to be clear, hdmi is a 8bit 422 1080i with a 24p embedded (2332 pulldown)
that can be captured to the ninja hard drive recorder & ML raw/mlv+audio can only be saved to the CF card
#1941
Will to put it in a nut shell, the stream for the HDMI comes form the Jpeg chip
which happen to be yuv422 and being it's jpeg compression that's limited to 8bit
Here a related post that should help to understand better.

MLV module failed me miserably yesterday.
Did a take of 2090 frames and the middle 600 frames are missing or corrupted. Too bad I didn't find out until I came home... doh!!
build 2014/02/04 (75649ffe291b) (dont ask me why I was still using this one)
Camera: 5D MK II-Modules: MLV_rec + snd-Resolution: 2:1 1872x936-Card: Lexar 128 gb 1000x-GD: ON-Buffer Method: 1
Extra hacks: ON
frame skipping: ((OFF))
Recorded 2090 frames and of which a chunck of some 600 frames is missing somewhere in the middle of the take.
When I play the mlv file in mlvrawviewer somewhere in the middle of the take it starts skipping frames and then 600 frames are black and then it continues playing again like normal. Tried MLVbrowsesharp and MLVconverter and both extract only 1394 frames.
Extra notes: I noticed while it was recording that it struggled to increase expected frames to "Continues OK", but when it got there it would at times drop down again to specific number of frames and then back again to continues. (if that helps)
Never experienced dropped frames with RAW_rec.
Luckily the set is still up, so It'll be quick to re-take, but embarrassing.
The Feb 4th built should have been Ok, I think unless you really need Global Draw=On, when recording I would leave it Off
and I would try buffer 0 , It seems to be the fastest at least by my tests.
I find 1872 with GD=On can sometimes be very unstable at times, I always leave GD Off to be stable in the large frame size.
1856x928 is my base default, as I use hdmi recorder for backup.  :)

Not possible, you will never be able to record raw to a hard drive recorder, just the HDMI stream which is
422 8bit. I post a video tutorial with the 5D2 and Ninja hard drive recorder , you might find it has useful
information . link below

Share Your Videos / Re: Model Test
February 22, 2014, 11:16:37 PM
You don't have to convert to Tiff's to edit in FCPX, If you use Cdng's Apple supports them native.
I have worked with Cdng's native in Motion 5.0, Compressor 4.1 and of course FCPX 10.1.1 ;)

Yes I agree, I have been following ACES since the beginning , i'm members a the

If I had that I could use the ACES.

Raw Video / Re: MLV + HDMI

No that sounds a little low for a Lexar, I have 2 Lexar 1000x cards
32 & 64 GB . I see write speeds around 72-78MB/s in Crop mode.
And around 63-69MB/s in non crop mode, for comparison
With mlv format with audio I can capture about 1000-1200 frame
At 1856x1004 23.976p & 1872x936 is continous , without HDMI device.
If run the old raw format , from Oct24th  from a.d.'s 5d2 builds
I was able to get @ 1872x1250 23.976p for about 1000-1200 frames
I don't judge my cards by the benchmark, but buy the largest frames size
I can do for the longest time .
The bottleneck here Is the CF Card controller , I never seen or heard anyone
Getting better then 78MB/s on the 5D2. :)

I just posted a video tutorial about HDMI+hard drive recorder with mlv/raw
on how to setup on a 5D2 with Clean output no overlays. I think that should help.

Try the mlv_play.mo module, for my understanding this module will
play the video out the HDMI port, have not tested myself but I have read
posts with people that have.
