Nanomad, are you a developer as well?

General Development / Re: Old lenses and aperture
August 03, 2012, 01:43:59 PM
Well, a developer should take a closer look at the lens-camera communication.
There are chips that can be glued on lenses so they can transmit exif data and focus confirmation to the camera so it has to be possible somehow.
#678
What can you do with the EOS SDK?
#679
It is not an issue.
It's the same as Iso 50 with other Canon camera which have this value as an extended range.
While Iso 50 is just an Iso 100 shot overexposed by one stop and then taken one stop back down in post, Iso 25 is the same stuff, only doubled.
No wonder you clip the highlights much earlier (two stops earlier, in fact) so you have to expose very precisely as the dinamic range is reduced.
I can't be sure but if i am correct the pink colour was chosen to make it easier to try to recover the details in the clipped lights (so you can work on pink only, instead of white, as it might be in other zones of the frame) .

General Chat / Re: Looking for defective cameras

I contacted Roger Cicala of lensrentals via email and not only he's really competent about his job but he's also very nice and friendly.

I really like it in every aspect. You've done a great job with your camera.

Feature Requests / Re: DOF calculator in live view
August 01, 2012, 04:52:04 PM
A1ex said DOF button press is not that easy to detect.
Same for flash button.
Canon should have given us more buttons for ML :D

Feature Requests / Re: Audio triggers only the flash
August 01, 2012, 04:49:57 PM
He just wants ML to pop the flash, not sync it at high speeds.
I think this could be possible.
If he's in bulb mode you don't need to activate the shutter, just the flash.

General Help Q&A / Re: Dead pixel...?!
August 01, 2012, 04:45:46 PM
But since you should know dead or hot pixels are in every camera (more or less) you should not be worried about this problem anyway.
Nobody can give you a sensor with 100% perfect pixels so that's why our modern cameras can map them and know what to do with them.
I always use google if something is not ML related because it is either something about the technology of our cameras or how something works.
As i said, ML is for advanced users, there was people asking about ML and they didn't even know how to update the firmware in their cameras, as an example.
Nothing wrong with them, sure, but an advanced users should at least know that dead pixels are inevitable. Then, you can talk about what ML did to make them come back.

One should have the complete menu and one custom menu for the most used functions.
A bit like hiding the submenus you don't use, this menu will contain like 10 functions you have to change often.
#687
That's just for 550D, it was measured with an infrared thermometer by a user.
#688
We don't know.
It has to be converted before being useful.
#689
Since ML is addressed to power users A1ex has focused his efforts on making this amazing piece of software work in the first place.
ML menu looks a bit strange compared to the Canon one but the latter isn't this beauty either.
A bit of patience, then, the menu will probably go under the plastic surgeon's table for the next main release.

General Help Q&A / Re: Dead pixel...?!
August 01, 2012, 01:26:57 AM
ML doesn't heat the camera in any abnormal way, it has been shown many times and the only way to induce overheating is to record for a long time in a hot environment. The camera will then show a thermometer on screen telling you the story is getting quite warm and inviting you to turn off the camera eventually.
Those myths could have existed when ML was at its primitive stage, now though it sound a bit strange that people don't understand that ML doesn't cause the camera to fall into pieces or cook your pizza.
Then again, i appreciate the user feedback about one dead pixel but a quick search on google could have at least cooled your worries as it is a very normal problem in sensors and it is just  ONE pixel anyway.
I want to remember that ML is for ADVANCED users so make sure you don't install it straightaway on your first DSLR and confuse yourself with all the new stuff. Know your camera for a while, understand what's normal and what's not and then install it.
You'll save yourself quite a lot of heart attacks.

ML control button are all explained in the HELP submenu.
Also, MENU button is expected to work like that, to hide those submenus you don't use so you can get a cleaner view of the menu.
It's not the fact that you ask, it is the fact that you made it look like those instructions weren't even in the ML HELP guide.
I just want to point out that reading the manual is enough for understanding how ML works, no need to do trial and error without knowing what will happen.
Have you found the HELP menu anyway?

Nice application but movie log isn't available for the 50D.
Can you add an option for logless files? :)

General Development / Re: Old lenses and aperture
July 30, 2012, 11:32:02 PM
As far as i know lens to camera communication is still to be understood.
If this succeeds we could have focus confirmation for manual lenses and support for older lenses, as you say.
Let's wait.

Give me good news :P
That would mean we can sync audio a bit easier and that some audio chip is somewhere inside our 50D.
Keep on going.
