General Help Q&A / Re: 5D MkII - Not enough memory
June 01, 2013, 03:32:40 PM
I see the same figures, Semenov. Perhaps someone in the know will comment if we can get more mem, or why we have a warning that we have to little memory.
#52
Any idea what has caused me and Hazer to lose EXIF data? Can I upload some samples somewhere?
#53
Ehm. reverted to my last functioning raw2dng, and Bridge still doesnt see exif data in my DNGs... For camera Make it says 'Canikon'. What could I be doing wrong? Same ML and Raw module I've used before with success. Perplexed.
#54
Tried latest Raw2DNG, and there's no camera profile in the files! There used to be at least the camera make and model in the exif, and camera Raw needs this info for its noise profiling etc.
#55
@Ombra, what was wrong about what I wrote, exactly? Does it contradict what you are saying?
#56
I haven't seen stripes or the hot pixel problem as described yet in my Mark II footage. I've seen just a hint of a flicker in one clip. https://vimeo.com/66414746 Using may 24 build from a.d. and the 'alternative' raw module. In fact, I'm pretty stoked so far. It has gotta be donation time.
#57
I think the panning mode is a bit crude. Is anyone using it? Enough for it to take up a button?
#58
Got it. Works as expected. Shooting 1840x800 untill the 4GB limit and above. Recommended as a 'budget' solution for the Mark II: Sandisk Extreme Pro 32GB 90MB/s. I celebrated by updating the video in the O.P. :-)
#59
'Set' and joystick press is not the same thing on 5DII. Set is in the middle of the wheel, the joystick is above the wheel and have a press function as well. Works well with the 'alternative' raw build.
#60
I think the joystick is better than the LV button. Because the LV button has a logical function already, and because I can reach the joystick button with my thumb with my hand in regular position - the LV button is waaay over on the other side of the camera!

Raw Video / Re: 1920x1080 RAW - real resolution?
May 28, 2013, 07:01:59 PM
I honestly think the RAW output at 1:1 is 'sharp enough', using the 5D Mark II..
#62
As norealz points out, there are de-flickering apps out there, intended for use with timelapse, which also displays this problem.

Premiere used to have support for DNGs. After all, Adobe started the DNG initiative. But somewhere along the lines, Adobe stopped supporting the CinemaDNG format and lost interest, removing the support... Current After Effects imports DNGs and allow for a lossless workflow.

Very nice video.

But I hate to say, using 4 year old raw software with my brand new 5D Mark Free is not going to be satisfying. Better to work with the CR team to nail the flicker issues :-)

Hazer,

>Disabling all stock Canon screen overlays via the "info" button

Assuming 5DII, could you explain what you mean by canon overlays and how to disable? Thanks!

Never mind.. Live View mode..
#68
I've seen this as well, a bit of exposure flickering visible in the portrait in http://vimeo.com/66414746 from 2:39. I'm not convinced its a Camera Raw problem. I know that the internal timer in cameras are not always 100% accurate, so exposures can shift (evident from years of panorama making in M mode). There must be a camera function in the h.264 encoding that prevents this exposure flickering happening.
#69
I ordered a 32gb 90MB/s card. Should be here tomorrow.

Raw Video / Re: Raw video on 5DMK2
May 25, 2013, 02:28:23 PM
Those benches are in playback mode with global draw on.
#71
>No, you can't.

Well, you've got 2.5 stops of lattitude on either side, a total of 5 stops in Camera Raw on a 14-bit file before it starts to fall apart. So if you shoot, say ISO 800, you can dial down to ISO 200 or up to ISO 3200. The exposure slider = digital gain = ISO.
#72
Since I get twice as many frames with small JPG quality instead of Raw enabled in Camera (5D II), couldn't you set this automatically when shooting raw video? Then back to whatever was selected when out of Raw rec mode. Maybe you could even exploit the small JPG address space also (hey you guys are genious!). The reason for this is I'd rather not forget at some point I have small JPG set in the camera and I'm on a photo job.
#73
Since we're lobbing everything in here, I thought I'd re-iterate the discovery of someone else here: Setting photo quality to small JPG in-camera instead of Raw, frees up buffer, at least on the 5DII. It enabled me to shoot twice the amount of frames at any given size before buffer overrun. It has no effect on the frame size in bytes on the DNGs. Perhaps the devs could look into exploiting this memory allocation?

General Help Q&A / Re: 5dmk2 RAW dead/hot pixels
May 24, 2013, 03:15:37 AM
Camera Raw has a more or less successfull automatic built in detection of dead pixels, I believe it stores a memory of these somewhere, based on x number of exposures developed with y camera serial number with the flaw in it. But with no EXIF data to work with in the DNGs from Raw video, it can't really store or retreive the data.
#75
But with RAW, you can change the ISO after the fact. No real reason for Auto ISO, I think.
