General Chat / *BROKEN* EOS Utility & USB Controllers
November 30, 2013, 05:56:22 AM
Ok.  So I just bought one of those USB controllers off of eBay (don't ask me why, it just sounded cool to be able to move my buttons down to the handle) but when I plugged it in to the camera, the system went totally haywire!  The camera's screen started flashing, and the battery had to be pulled to get the camera to turn back on.

At first, I thought it was the shitty Chinese USB controller... but I then decided to plug the camera (it's a 5d3, btw) into my laptop to see if I could use EOS Utility but it did the exact same thing.  More importantly... EOS Utility shut down saying it couldn't recognize the camera.

Is this a known issue? Is there a way to fix this?  Thanks.

When I attempt to get the latest version, it says "This Build Failed!".  What's up with that?

General Chat / Re: Premiere 7.1 Pink Issue
November 02, 2013, 07:05:40 PM
There are more potential users of Magic Lantern raw than there could ever be of any BlackMagic camera simply by availability...

But I think Adobe's intention was more to promote SpeedGrade for BMC users.

Seems oddly intentional to me.  But I don't want to believe Adobe would do that.

So it seems it isn't just a MAC vs. PC or RAWMaigc vs. raw2cdng thing....  Could it have anything to do with the extra color information in the format?  Since BMC is only 10bit CDNG?

General Chat / Premiere 7.1 Pink Issue
November 01, 2013, 04:14:01 PM
Hey,
So as everyone is finding out, it seems that long waited upgrade to Premiere with native CDNG support has a big bug for MLV shooter...  the files look totally pink when opened in Premiere directly.

there is a forum going on Adobe's site http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1326153?tstart=0, but I was hoping people could post their results here to figure out if ALL magic lantern CDNGs were the issue, or if it has something to do with the operating system and converter.

FORMAT:
PRESENT/NOT- PRESENT
OPERATING SYSTEM
CAMERA w/ML
CONVERTER

The less discussion the better, this is just to get an idea if the issue is present everywhere.

General Chat / Simple Wired Remote 5D3?
October 20, 2013, 06:32:16 AM
Hey,
So I just happened to find this video of a guy who built a wired remote for his t2i, and I didn't even know this was a function on Magic Lantern.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsX60f_cdK0

Would it be possible to use this on a 5D3?  I have a right angle HDMI that blocks my regular 3-pin release port, so I've been interested in finding another option..

Thanks.

which sync issue do you mean?

You said it is off by 1 frame every 226 seconds, and that pattern continues every 226 frames...

That sounds like a drop frame vs. non-drop frame issue...   Drop frame drops frames every so many seconds to account for a sync issue that was discovered when color tv first started broadcasting...  or something like that.

Could that be the source of the sync issue?  Since it is consistent?

Also, I am having a super hard time location the latest compile and latest mlv_rec.mo...  It is starting to make me feel stupid.  :-/

Raw Video / Re: Raw footage are underexposed
October 03, 2013, 10:45:03 PM
Zebras are only telling you that the whites in your shot are blown out based on the display, and your picture profile.

The RAW histogram will show you if that information in those highlights is really completely washed out.  Plus ETTR hint will give you an idea of how "overexposed" you can get before blowing out the image.

You want the image to be as exposed-to-the-right (ETTR) as possible to have the highest signal-to-noise ratio.

48khz is usually the standard we record in on our external recorders.

Will it be 1 frame off for every 5422 seconds?  If so, that could be a problem.

If you can point me in the direction of the latest compiled build for this, I'd be happy to do some testing over the weekend.

General Chat / Latest MLV_REC.MO
October 03, 2013, 06:18:46 PM
Hey,
So... I'm trying to find the latest compiled MLV (raw 2) module on the site, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.  I know lots of experimenting is going on, and it hasn't been incorporated into the regular nightly builds yet... but I've got some free time, and I'm itching to mess around it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Where is the latest version of mlv_rec.mo to test?  Any ideas?  Looking all over for it... :-/

Raw Video / Re: Raw footage are underexposed
October 03, 2013, 05:51:57 PM
There are differences in shooting RAW vs. H.264.

Mainly, the camera actually only exposes in ISO multiples of 2. (IE: ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, etc)  ISO 160 is really ISO 200 with digital correction.

Try using image fine-tuning set to -1 EV and keep in mind that MUCH MORE INFORMATION is stored in the highlights of RAW than in a compressed format.  If you over-expose slightly, and adjust in post... you get a much cleaner image out of it.

Don't use zebras, just the RAW histogram with the ETTR hint.  As long as you don't underexpose or overexpose too much... you'll be able to recover all the detail in color correction.

Unfortunately MLV has not made it yet to the unified builds so it is not available through nightly builds.  You will have to compile it yourself or find a complete build in this thread that you can use.
1% has incorporated the MLV into some of his builds including 7D, and others but dont know which.

I know.  I'm looking for the most current build that works for the 5D3... i have no idea how to compile something...  I have a few days to mess around with any-all new features and I wanted to see MLV's progress on the mac.

Can someone please give me a link to the latest build?  I've been out of the loop for a long while now... :-/

Is there some central place where it will be easiest to find the module?

Thanks.

General Help Q&A / Re: Latest 5D Mark III version??
October 03, 2013, 12:18:10 AM
Wow.  Ok there have been a lot of changes! :-)

One problem though...  Raw_Rec doesn't seem to load... at least now the module says 'Will Load on Next Reboot'... so then I reboot and still I am not seeing it in the menus.  Did it move?  Am I crazy?

Been out-of-the-loop.... where is the latest and greatest version to try out?

How are things working?

General Help Q&A / Latest 5D Mark III version??
October 02, 2013, 11:59:49 PM
Hey,
So... I've had to step away from the site for a bit, and now that I have some time to get back into it... it is as confusing as ever! :-/

Where can I find the latest, greatest build for the 5D Mark 3?  *The most recent posted (in the usual spot) is from August 21st...

How are thing going with MLV?  Is there a viable OSX conversion tool yet?
#73
Been out of a loop for a bit here... wondering where I can find the newest compiled version.

Things in this forum are getting a bit hard to follow...
#74
I've been out of the loop for a little while.

It's working?  Is there a new module, or did I have something set wrong?

Will there be a version that outputs 24p smpte?

Thanks!

Tragic Lantern / Re: Tragic Lantern for EOS M

Just got/hack ML on the EOS-M (also have it on 5D3 for a while) and I have a quick question - Does Focus Stacking work on here?  I don't see it in the menu, but maybe I missed it? :-/
