1. This is something I want to work on for the GUI, which still isn't functioning how it needs to.
2. Possibly, it can essentially convert to anything, at the moment only ffmpeg is coded in.
3. Being worked on (not by me).
4. Being worked on by me. If you pull the latest git and run: mlrawgui.py
5. Should already be available, when you're typing where you want it to be saved to.
6. Eventually in the gui, still being worked on.
7. I personally can't answer this one.

We all know he was stating the obvious, but there is no need to be a jerk about it.  This viewer is amazing, and the developer doesn't seem to NOT be asking for user feedback.

-m question...

What file extension should we be outputting the metadata to?  What can read this metadata?  Is the audio track information being encoded on the metadata track?  Is this information used when processing to .dng, or does additional software need to be written to re-encorporate it?

Thanks!
#28
If the developers can find a way to encode the metadata the right way, Resolve should be able to recognize it right off the bat.  Unfortunately, when I open my clips they don't seem to have any of the metadata stored...  I'm processing through mlv.dump.osx for 10.7...

Any chance you can update this to play the embedded audio? :-)

no after effects, no resolve only premiere pro cc to edit multiple mlv raw files with audio

https://vimeo.com/82623320

this actually makes the process seem far more complex than just converting dngs in Resolve...
#31
When I attempt to open the dng in premiere pro cc, it says 'The file appears to have no media data'....

I've tried this in terminal on both 10.7 and 10.9 on both I am getting a response of "command not found".  Am I putting in the correct command?  I'm not much of a terminal user...

BINGO!  I read a little more and realized my mistake. chmod +x ./mlv_dump.osx needs to be executed first.  Second one works well in 10.7.  First one says 'illegal instruction 4'

Thanks.

OSX Users:

i recently installed a OSX machine inside a virtual box.
after some struggle regarding installation of the necessary stuff i was able to compile mlv_dump in the VM.

can you try this mlv_dump?

update:
if you use OSX 10.6 or 10.7 does the link above work?
if not, can you try this mlv_dump?

I've tried this in terminal on both 10.7 and 10.9 on both I am getting a response of "command not found".  Am I putting in the correct command?  I'm not much of a terminal user...

@AnotherDave:
Is it still just set to do PAL only?  I don't get a read out from it on my Tascam HD-P2.  Happy to test it.  Just tell me what'cha need me to do.

There is no setting for continuous beep which is needed for this to work. The recording is kept alive as long as the tone is present. If someone with programing skills would make a continuous beep setting possible we could use the beep instead.
However it may be that the files stop almost simultaneously as it is now and then you could use the endpoints of the files to sync.

but why not just record audio the whole time in between takes?  it doesn't eat up that much space... with a big enough card you could just run all day...

which apps on an iphone will allow it, AND record 48khz as thats what video would take
I'm fairly sure the free iPhone app is called Timecode Buddy, but there are also a few paid apps that read timecode.  You may need an audio input cable.... I had an old iRig i was using before.
#37
If the beep is that close, why not just leave the recorder roll, and sync by the beeps?

Now it would be interesting to try and tweak this feature for perfect sync.

Perfect sync for start/stop probably isn't completely possible.  With MLV, you should be able to sync the audio and video via the SMPTE timecode you're pumping into that 4th channel... but I think development on the SMPTE module has stopped.  If it worked and you were using a recorder with TC in, you'd have perfectly synced audio and video all the time.

I am on a mac so testing MLVs is a bit of a pain, and the SMPTE doesn't work on my HD-P2 like it should.

If people want to test the SMPTE feed, you CAN do so on an iPhone with several free apps.

So now we have a fully functional solution here!

Awesome!  Do you have to monitor the SMPTE track in the headphones?

General Chat / Premiere CC Pink Issue Solutions
December 18, 2013, 09:59:40 PM
What solutions have people come up with for the pink footage issue in Premiere?  I've been messing around with the input levels and have been able to get a very useable image... but I'm wondering if there is an exact science to it.

Thanks.

I can understand an extra cost for the "risk" of installing ML... it sucks that they'd charge for it, but there is a greater chance that a novice user might damage the camera.

I think ML is worth a whole hell of a lot.  In a lot of ways, the Red camera doesn't produce as good of an image as a 5D3, ML, and a little know-how.
#42
I'm not sure what happened, but maybe it was just a fluke... when I first installed it and opened a previous project that I had tested RAW clips with, it looked a lot better and I was able to adjust the levels and get a nice image out of it.  After I closed the program and reopened it, it was all pink again.

WTF, Adobe?
#43
It is present on both DNGs.  It is more noticeable on the CDNG version, but it is certainly there on both files.

The color fringing you're seeing IS being initially caused by the moire pattern of the camera. Is RAW2CDNG  still converting the footage to 16bit so it can be recognized by Resolve?  That is no longer necessary.
#44
Seems the latest update to of Premiere fixes the pink issue with CDNGs... but the levels are way off.
#45
There is a SMPTE module that already exists.  It puts out a continuous SMPTE timecode signal out of the audio jack when you press record.  Could a SMPTE signal be used to trigger the H6 to start?  If not, the module could be helpful in developing a new module that just outputs a tone, or maybe that feature could be incorporated into this module.

Here is the link.

here is the last download from Dec 8 for the EOS-M camera that I got from bot fly when it was active. I am not respionsible for any problems you might have. I am only sending what I got from there. I have no problems using it, though.

This download link is no longer available...  says it has been deleted from the servers.  Anyone else got it?

Any chance we'll soon have the option to move the recording information to the upper part of the screen like the legacy RAW format?

Duplicate Questions / Working MLV workflows for OSX
December 13, 2013, 01:01:49 AM
Hey,
I've been rather on-again-off-again with the new MLV raw format, and it seems like the information gets a bit muddled on the forum as to what workflows are available and actually working for people.

Would ya'll mind posting your workflows and links to where we can download the latest versions of the software for OSX?

Thanks so much!

General Chat / Re: *BROKEN* EOS Utility & USB Controllers
November 30, 2013, 06:28:00 PM
After tinkering around a little more, I noticed one super important thing!  It seems the USB controller is interrupting the HDMI out signal!

I'm using a Zacuto EVF, and I'm assuming that is why it seemed like everything freaked out when I plugged it into my laptop.  The software must send the liveview signal out of the USB and kill the HDMI when it is connected to a computer (or in this case, a USB controller).

Is there anyway to force the signal out of HDMI only?  Any one else have a similar problem using an Okii controller?  The one I'm using is a clone of the Okii MC1.  When I unplug my HDMI cable from the camera and monitor off of the camera's display, the controller works as expected... but with HDMI on, it crashes.

Any fix for this possible?  It would be super awesome to be able to monitor over HDMI and additionally have a USB controller by the handle.

Thanks.

I looked around further and found that the issue with EOS Utility is a problem with OSX Mavericks and the version that I had installed on my laptop.

Any idea why the camera would freak out so much when I connect the controller though?

I know you take a risk when you but cheap, but if I buy an Okii from B&H is it going to have the same issues?

Thanks.
