Unfortunately that faq didn't help me except point out that "maybe nobody knows the answer", the forum rules kind of helped but it didn't have the answer I was looking for

if there is a pretentious fraternal bro code on this forum, I'm still not familiar with it, so you'll need a more intuitive link

is the HDR feature detailed here 4 months ago for the 5d mark iii http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/13/canon-5d-mark-iii-now-captures-24fps-raw-video-magic-latern/

also available on the 6d? since they use similar technologies, and its 4 months later

the frat code is only active in some members, most are very helpful, you will get the occaisional "try harder" rather than actual help. And of course this place is a labyrinth of threads, not easy to navigate. People have been lost for months, haha  There is a matrix some nice person (nanomad) put together showing which features are now working for which cameras

http://nanomad.magiclantern.fm/jenkins/features.html

And HDR video is definitely shown as functioning Edit: for the 6D

It's probably in the nightly builds

Me: HDR video for the 7D? Sorry if this has already been answered. I did try and find it in other threads.

Alex1%: I don't know if it will be fast enough to do HDR from slave.

So does that mean that HDR video for 7D is off the table, or still being looked into?
Also, will there be dual-iso for raw video in the future for the 7D? I have really combed
all the threads trying to find the answers to these before posting this question.
Thanks for the fabulous work.

Hi every one, i´ve been reading to many threads and im very confused right now about installing magic lantern on my canon t4i,and i just bought a juiced link pream to conect my Rode Shotgun mics, and hypercardoid directly to my camera and it woks pretty well like recording audio separately.  but i read that audio doesnt work with magic lantern right?, so if is there a solution for this, because this preamp works great.

Then i have another question i bougt a PNY 64 gb 35 mbs sd card, and i read like you need more write speed on your card or something, and that is more difficult to install magic lantern on 64gb cards.   I need some help, my head feels like is going to explode and my brain is so hot i feel like is melting.

HELP PLEASE!! :-\

David, all your questions are covered in this thread and the obsoleted Canon 650D thread. In Nanomad's first post in this thread he says there are problems with audio
"What's currently not working: All ML features that have to do with audio"
as to write speed, if you want to shoot raw, get at least the 45 mb/s card, 35 is too slow.

and yes you need a smaller than 64G card to install
Nanomad: "Yes, the installer (or any canon update for that matter) won't work on cards bigger than 32 GB"

I still have older version of 650d firmware and I haven't installed ML yet. So is there any chance to rip the firmware and upload it to the forum? If the answer is yes, I'm ready to help you guys.

I've thoroughly searched the web for a download of 1.0.1 or is there a way to copy from the camera and the answer is no. People have asked Canon for 1.0.1 and they won't give it to anyone for any reason.  So the bottom line (for anyone considering upgrading the firmware) is don't upgrade unless you want to wait until ML works with 1.0.4 which could be awhile  :'(

these two were taken one after the other with the same camera settings. Kit lens 18-55 at about  33mm iso100 and f22.
The H264 was 1920 x 1080 (24fps) and the raw was 1728 x 972 (10fps). Then output at 1280 x 720. I adjusted the colors
on the raw to match the h264 as best as I could and applied very minor stabilization to get rid of the jerkiness that I always
see in my raw videos (from the process I guess). You can clearly see better into the shadows with the raw.

Alright folks, I have a new video out showcasing RAW on the 650D, cleaned up with the remover.

Nice video

actually i don't say 650d raw vids are all crap, i only compare it to m3. people that own m3 have also other professional equipment, maybe that is why they look superb. so i think you are probably right, it is mostly about handholding, fast hand moves and not messing with camera settings enough.

M3 is $3300 new, 650D around $700 new (no lens).  Like BMW vs Honda Civic. But I drive a civic and am very happy with it. And I don't think the M3 video quality is 5 times better than the 650D. With all the tools ML has given us, we can shoot GREAT video, but much of it is knowledge and skill. Sure M3 users don't have to try as hard, but who has that kind of money? Of course most of your crop sensor lenses won't work on a full frame cam. I have one out of 3 that will. I think the 650D shoots plenty good video, even for professional use. But you have to master it, whereas you don't have to master a more expensive camera as much.

okay so side question, Im thinking of shooting video in a Club, we are holding Go Go Girl Auditions, should I film in raw or should I just film with the cannons native software? the lighting wont be ideal Im sure, so any suggestions would be welcomed and super sorry if this is just to off topic.

the lighting issue will be the same whichever way you choose. Maybe shoot HDR? I've only shot short clips but it probably will handle larger ones. Try some test runs in similar light.

nice film feel but... i have a felling that raw videos from 650d lacks "quality" i don't know any other words to describe this. i mean, it doesn't look like a raw video from mark iii. of course mak iii is a lot better camera but, i have a 1366x768 resolution laptop, so i can't see too much difference between 1080p and 720p and raw videos from mark iii is looks just  superior on my laptop's screen. i wonder why?

is it because lame postprocessing skills we (i) got?

Mostly I think it's that the Mark III is full frame and so it has more pixels to start with. In general more pixels equals better quality (example 300dpi vs 72dpi). We're already at a 1.6 crop factor and then we're cropping that to get our raw videos. But hang in there, even with that, I can clearly see that a 1280 x 720 crop is still sharper than my h264 1280 x 720 and you get a better dynamic range with raw.  Some of it is filming technique as well. Lighting, not panning too fast, not using handheld, all that is important. Right ISO, right shutter speed and aperture, that is all important in a scene looking good. I bought a motorized panning head for around $130 because I just couldn't get a slow consistent pan and my youtube videos were always jerky. The motorized head was the answer for that.

Short update on the dot remover:

  * Changed algorithms to support EOS M better

  * Fine-tuning EOS-M dot location database

  * First promising tests on DNGs created with RawMagic; used talosectos' file for testing and have almost all dots removed

Mixer2 and me are currently optimizing and testing, but we should have a new version in a few days!

thanks to both of you

я не совсем понял о чем речь, цифровой зум в режиме записи в 650д, я правильно понял?
I do not quite understand what I mean, the digital zoom is in the recording mode in the 650d, I understand correctly?

yes, recording in raw and h264

Hi there,

Thank you for the great job  :)

I've got a problem with the tool (I'm certainly doing something wrong  :-[).

Here's the link for an original frame:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/y3jb96kyp6sc2zs/M26-1615_00000.dng
The resolution of the raw video was set at 1472x626 (2.35:1), shot with the ML build from 2013-06-26.

When I use the tool (on W7), I get this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nna78o9qw1r4xry/_M26-1615_00000.dng

What am I doing wrong?

I just took a short clip at that resolution and it removed the dots for me. Did you maybe select EOSM by mistake?

Edit: But then when I tried it on YOUR file, it did what it did for you, made it 10 times worse.

but if I open your original in Rawtherapee and apply the dead pixels profile, it acts normally (for that program)

Then I installed the same build as yours (which is wow, btw) and again took a short clip and the tool removed the dots.
This is my setup in RAW: Digital dolly OFF, Frame skipping OFF. That's all I got for ideas for now :-\

This is completely raw after pink dot removal, no other corrections.
1728 x 972 at 12 FPS

yeah I know about the magnificent pink removal tool. but I read the latest changelog build Satriani https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hxsv61cq992egmy/qFWy7q9VZA/ChangeLog.txt

so you can records at 1280 x 720 at 24p with continously?
what card do you use ?

whoops... ok  ;D

I'm not sure how long it will record at 36 MB/s. I've read that the 650D won't record at more than 40 MB/s
so I guess we just need to test it more to find out it's limits. I'm interested in the 1600 x 900 size but again
that's at 36 MB/s at 15 FPS which is maybe cutting it a bit close to the max bitrate that can be recorded. I'm thinking
a larger crop at less FPS is going to yield a better image than a smaller crop at more FPS, just because
of the greater amount of pixels. This is the first I've heard of the warming up of the cards. I was reading the
daily builds for a long time and trying each one, but I've fallen a bit behind :(

I use a Sandisk Extreme 45MB/s. Seems like spending more money on a faster card would be a waste of money

with the latest version ML (today)

what is the Maximum resolution for 24p continous recording ?

Is it pink frame in raw video has fix?

and what is option to warm up the card at camera startup (experimental), why do we need this opt ?   :(

It records at 1280 x 720 at 24p at 36.8 MB/s
And you can use 1600 x 900 at 15 FPS at 36 MB/s, that's all I've tried so far

There is a pink dot removal tool in development that you can download here http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=6658.new#new

@donjames150:
Does this version work with spaces in the directory name for you?

So far it looks like it's working fine, I'll be testing it today at different crop sizes.  Again, thanks
for all your hard work on this.

I'm not quite sure where that setting is. Is it an ML thing or a canon thing?

framing is in the submenu under raw video in ML

Okay, one by one....

--------------------------------------------------
@donjames150 and @demetrisag:

Could you please run the program in a terminal window (instead of just double-clicking the jar) and send me the output? I have a faint idea what the reason for error could be. This idea would be confirmed if the program would run normal if you start it from the command line...----------------------------------------

looks like this

How do I get rid of these pink dots all in one clump in the middle of my image? this is bothering me, and is very distracting.

same here

Since Foorgol was clearly born to program and uses a Linux OS, I suggest he do what I did in 1989
when I took a class on Unix. I put both Linux and Dos on two different partitions and had a dual-boot setup.
Then you could test on Windows machines which is what most people have (except the rich ones who have
macs  :o)

Is continuous RAW at 720p24 possible with this card?
http://www.amazon.de/SecureDigital-Capacity-Speicherkarte-Frustfreie-Verpackung/dp/B00422J0CG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1372274898&sr=8-5&keywords=sdhc

that's cutting it close, that's 36.8 mb/s and this camera is only good for 40 tops. I bump down the framerate to 20fps and it works fine.

After processing the files with the dotremover the dots are weak visible.
When I push the picture 1,5 Av the dots are again very good visible.

I shoot 1280*720 16:9 with an EOS650D
Is it normal?

I shot this the other day at 1280 x 720, before and after .dng files

Foorgol, I'm getting an error when I double-click the .jar file
