Raw Video / Re: Empty 82 Gb MLV file?
July 21, 2014, 12:21:56 PM
Did you try rebuilding the file header? Maybe copy from a different working .mlv file? If you are going to mess with the file content, I would suggest making a copy first ;)

I haven't used my 5DM2 in a while, but if I remember correctly the highest frame rate available in the ML settings was 35fps.

I think I've come across this issue in the forum before, but don't remember the discussion.

There's been talk that there's a problem specifically with the KB 128GB 1000x cards and ML, you can search and find out more. It might just be the cards themselves, as I've recently seen this specific card being sold at deep discount.

A few things you could try, reformat cards in camera and reinstall ML, use mlv_rec instead of raw_rec and try copying files to local hard drive then process with a different app like MLV Mystic, MLRawViewer, or MLRawBrowser and see if things improve :)

I don't use exFAT and with the 5DM3 build I think there's a ML menu setting for it too?

I also suggested he pull the 'clock' battery as well as the main battery and see what happens, but have not heard back about that yet.

Even though my camera can handle files larger than 4GB, just from a practical/safety point of view I still limit my raw video files to 4GB. The thought is if something should go wrong at some point of the recording, hopefully with many smaller files, less footage will be lost.

did you try live view tethering with that setup?

I didn't try LiveView while tethered, just been using EOS Utlity for loading picture styles and lens profiles.
#133
I wouldn't doubt that EOS Utility/tethering is the cause. I never liked all those gyrations my camera would go through when using it that way, kinda always had my fingers crossed. Quite frankly, I'm totally going to extremely limit my use of EOS Utility/tethering going forward, although I do like to use it to add additional lens profiles to the camera.

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: ProRes 4444 XQ
July 19, 2014, 12:55:52 PM
Noticing some strange behavior with new codec via QuickTime.

If I try and view a QuickTime lossless file (animation) then QT converts it to ProRes 4444 (330 Mbps) for viewing, makes sense. When I view a ProRes 4444 XQ file in QT it converts it to h.264 (22 Mbps) for viewing (wouldn't think it should have to convert it to anything), makes no sense. Of course as expected, if I view a ProRes 4444 file, then QT just displays it as is.

How are we to experience/assess this new codec if QuickTime automatically converts the output to h.264 for viewing?

UPDATE: MPEG Streamclip 1.9.2 can be used to view ProRes 4444 XQ in full quality (500+ Mbps)...

Looks great!

Sweet, that was fast! I hope they fixed the problem with the app automatically resizing itself every time I change the view ;)

UPDATE: Resizing issue mostly fixed :) Now it only happens when switching to and from Enhanced View in the Color tab.
#136
Ok, will wait, just assumed once I had the new codec installed DR would automatically 'pick it up'.
#137
I loaded some custom picture styles on my 5DM2 and 5DM3 while ML was installed using EOS Utility and didn't encounter any problems.

Latest builds are under the nightlies section. At this point the nightlies are very stable, but not as much as the official stable release and alpha versions. I use nightlies all the time as do many others, once in a while there's a minor problem with a nightly, but nothing so severe as to brick your camera :)

Has anybody tried getting the new Apple ProRes 4444 XQ codec accessible in Davinci Resolve 11?

I have it working in AE/PP, but don't know how to add it to DR.

There are probably only a few forum members that can answer that question reliably, and only one that I know of @reddeercity

I can confirm you can get Apple ProRes 4444 XQ codec in Compressor 4.1.2 ;D

UPDATE: Do you have the mlv_snd.mo module loaded?
#143
I believe the best you can record to Atomos Ninja is ProRes 422 10-bit, no RAW record to ninja >:(

Try using one of the more automated apps for extracting DNGs, maybe with the command line tools you're not using a needed input parameter (just guessing here), but with the apps (MLV Mystic, MLRawViewer, MLRawBrowser, RawMagic, etc.) they might produce the results you're looking for.

Otherwise it's probably something you're doing in-camera, try resetting all Canon settings to defaults and reinstalling ML build, delete ALL ML files then copy over latest ML build.
#145
One last thing you might try is in addition to removing the main camera battery, try removing the main battery AND the micro battery, it's usually located at the bottom of the side with all the ports, it's just one (little) screw, or search youtube for same, leave the batteries out for at least 5 mins, then reinstall.

That's the pink dot issue with the 650D/700D hybrid focusing points. You must use a post processing app to remove them, like the PinkDotRemover or one with Chroma Smoothing. This issue is discussed extensively within this forum, just search 'Pink dot removal tool'.

Nice work! Color grading looks great!

When recording mlv the sound file (.wav) is embedded in the .mlv file, not seperate. When you process the .mlv file into DNGs then the seperate audio file is created.

The only expection that I'm aware of is with the 5DM3, where you can write image data to the CF card and audio seperately to the SD card for higher performance.

Awesome!

I only have one question... How can I turn myself into a lollipop?
