You know, if you compile ML for 7D and post it here, I bet some lunatic here has the balls to run it in their camera. Then we can take it from there...
Indeed !!!
Etiquette, expectations, entitlement...

I know some people are using the 7D with HIGH bitrates... does someone have like a comparison of the video with and without the better bitrate?? I've read that people are shooting in ALL-I and 20x CBR... that seems too much!!! I'm thinking of investing in high speed cards but I'm not too sure about it...
Thanks!

Thanks. Got it booting. Actually there is no need to downgrade firmware. Just run patched dumper firmware update on a camera with v2.0.3 firmware and that's all, you're ready to boot autoexec.bin. 7D alpha2 tag is compiling without any problems.

For run autoexec.bin automatically from the card.
Yes.
No.

Can't you downgrade firmware only to enable bootflags with dumper firmware and then upgrade firmware back to current version and then use ML alpha2 autoexec.bin. Or will firmware upgrade reset bootflags?
Quote from: feureau on June 27, 2013, 03:38:51 AM
I compiled 7D ML from repo with bootflag enabled.
To run, you actually need to downgrade to the older 1.3 7D firmware. It didn't work well. Like pelican said, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Ended up restoring to the 2.0 firmware and using the alpha 2.
If you want the full ML experience, better get another camera.

As I wrote it here a few times before, anybody can make bootable 7D ML. Read back for details.
I use autoexec.bin from the beginning but the 7D ML has issues so I don't recommend to use it except for testing/playing.
Maybe 7D ML never come out from alpha stage because the developers always busy with exciting new findings like RAW video.
Don't forget ML was impossible on 7D almost for 3 years long...
So wait patiently or compile your own autoexec and enable your bootflag on your camera.

Hey 50D community I had an idea to put together a collaborative project for the 50D, mainly to showcase the power of the camera. It can also be a learning ground for new comers, and educational platform to share settings, shooting styles, tricks, and most importantly workflows & color grading. Let me know if it's something you all would be interested in, I think we all have a common goal to get the best possible images out of the 50D and turn it into a movie make machine Cheers..
GOD Bless

autoexec.bin file should be generated by default when compiling ML. Unfortunately there is no bootdisk_enable stubs in 7d platform code.

+1 for autoboot version. My 7d is half broken (without any sort of AF), so I relay heavily on ML focus aids in photo mode.
Could I enable BOOTDISK flag on 7d with magic.disable_bootdiskf = 0 "like" operation under fir version of ML and then compile my own autoexec.bin using https://bitbucket.org/hudson/magic-lantern/src code?

tonight i catched the moon!
I have a soviet lens that wanted to sell but i think i'm gonna keep it
5x video. with my sandisk extreme 60MB/s i only could record 13 second clips aprox, still, very impressive

This is a short music video I shot in Thailand last week on the 50d with one of the earlier June builds. Enjoy!

if you want to use the video hacks, setting the GOP and all, you have to turn it on. And yes, it doesn't save the settings. This is specific to the 7D. Devs said they don't want to have people complaining about settings that don't work, but now we have people confused over why the settings don't get saved. There were talks of how you can set the default values using the config file but no one would say which variables saved what.

Change the flush to 4 and shoot without sound for maximum image quality. If you want sound, you need flush to stay at 24, so lower CBR to around 2.3
Quote from: feureau on June 11, 2013, 07:01:05 AM
But I found the most detail I can get is by shooting All-I. Turn on video hacks, flush at your video framerate if you shoot with audio (you might need to lower your bitrate, naturally) and set the frames at 1. I can get about 350-400mbit/s with CBR at 20 with my 60MB/s sandisk.
You can't set the flush at 60 if you're shooting 60fps btw. It's set that way by the devs and no one would comment as to why.

Got 76MB/s now from stopping the refresh. Its faster in zoom for some reason.
Ha! I was recording 30P.. get 80MB/s in 24P.
Lulz, I'm recording almost 1080P steady.
Quote from: 1% on June 16, 2013, 09:20:25 PM
So I checked out video modes and it doesn't want to take 24FPS or different display modes.. Seems to be hard coded for either 640 x 480 or 1080P.
There are several spots for frame rate and gop, I'm looking for those.
Found shutter frequency for fps, ae value, shutter timer, frame aperture/shutter/etc
Still working on beep.
also hunting for flush rate, found slice already... getting same 70MB/s max out of the module... I think we can gain some write speed if the edmacs get killed correctly, right now they are not.

I normally export in DPX for color work because of the color density the frames provide. Even if doing this from a lower quality source (such as DSLR h.264 footage), it produces higher flexibility similar to that of RAW.
The oddity right now is that LR's JPEGs appear to be giving me similar density and flexibility as the .DNGs sources when coloring. RAW does however provide the absolute BEST source negative out-of-camera and unlike JPEG or DPX, none of the information is baked in (which is why you can recover highlight information). I may just be exporting in DPX out of habit at this point, but in DPX LOG, it allows me to utilize a proper LUT before color grading.
For a LUT base, I use a few that I've created in Resolve or a Kodak one.

Hello,
what's the current state of ML-7D-development ? Anyone knows about that ? Haven't seen any posts from g3gg0 since a few weeks...
I would be very happy to have an auto-bootable version of ML, even if it's an alpha-version...
Thank you...

The first bitrate monster .FIR shoots All-I already. You just need to set the CBR/VBR to a high number. The second one is not All-I. Both do not have options to manually set this.
In the Alpha 2, in the screen where you set your CBR/VBR, there's an option for video hacks. Switch it to ON and you can then set the Flush and GOP (I forgot what it's called on that screen but it's the one immediately after Flush). Set the GOP to 1 and you're shooting All-I. (GOP stands for Group of Picture)
Good luck!

I know we've all gotten used to it by now but, I'm madly in love w/ the 50D's new-found digital cinema capabilities thanks to you guys here.
I alternately swap between RAWanizer DNxHD export and Lightroom export depending on how much latitude I want. Here's one workflow I've used for the commercial spot we're shooting:
1. DNG to Lightroom (specifically to save latitude)
2. export upscale to 1920px horizontally at 100% JPEG quality
3. edit in Premiere CS6 (JPG frame sequence)
4. export as DPX LOG frame
5. color in AE CS6 (combination of adding a specific LUT base, then grading in curves, sharpening and adding 35mm grain scan)

Hey,
So... I'm just thinking.
Is it about time ML starts thinking about making it's own cinema camera?
What this incredible group of people - developers, tester, thinkers, etc - have been able to do with existing hardware in such a short period of time...
imagine what could be possible if they were to create a completely new system from the ground up!
That is one Kickstarter campaign I would happily fund!
