Awesome app!!!! I included it in my batch MLV converter...

I've been using the 1.0.4 in windows.. and when I open an MLV file, sometimes it opens fine, but other times the program opens and closes in a second, quitting, the audio file is created. When I go again, there it is fine! Here is a log:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/kj33bt0iihq6ef0/mlrawviewer.log

Would it be too much trouble to add a bar with controls? Or maybe that the overlay progressbar shows then the mouse is over the window? Or a key shortcut to hide and unhide it? When shooting 2.35:1, the video is not too tall, and the bar covers a good amount of the frame!

Also, the repeat function.. can it be disabled??

Another.. would it be too much trouble for the program to delete the .wav file after we close it? It happens that if you have a neat folder structure with MLV files, some will have wav files and some won't..

And last but not least.. in windows, do I have command line options? As I have my batch converter.. maybe those can be useful for comunicating with your program..

Thanks and cheers!!

Yes, and it repeats after it finishes. It is a bit annoying. But I think that behaviour has to be changed from mlrawviewer, which I do not made! Maybe we can ask for a feature request for them? I'm sure though they have it in their plans... Although, I can make the file open with MLviewsharp.. but to be honest I like mlrawviewer more..

EDIT: Of course you can do that stuff at the viewer! SPACE pauses, "," and "." steps 1 frame at a time, arrows jump like 1 second.. etc. It's all on the readme on their thread, which is this one:

Cheers!

@ted: Why do you need an option to jump on a specific frame if you can open the file with the viewer? There you can play it anyway you want.. am I missing something?? And yesss think next thing I'm gonna work on is the queue, or checkboxes.. that'll be so sweet!

@Chad: I'm so flattered.. haha! The developers are the stars ;)

@atarijedi: Thanks for the info!!! Is there something ffmpeg can't do??? Will look into it.

Thanks guys!

Yey!! Realtime progressbar is on my thoughts.. I just have to know how to find out how many frames does an MLV have inside.. and also to enable multiple instances.. because mlv_dump uses only 25-35% of my cpu.. I suppose it can go faster!
#230
Hey! I really appreciate that you like it! And yes.. in the future I am planning to implement a queue feature, so you can select the exact files you want, move them around, have different values, etc. It is a lot of work as I am no programmer really so I will do it in the future. It is aimed to be as professional software as possible!

MLV Converter 1.9.2 for WINDOWS

Hello to all!  :D

I've been making this simple program in Visual Basic for the last few days. It is, like the title says, the first MLV to DNG batch converter for windows, which basically converts all your MLVs into different DNG folders. It has a lot of features, it is very simple and efficient. It runs from mlv_dump.

I am NOT a programmer! But when I was a kid I used to mess around with it, and Visual Basic is very easy,  so I managed to get it going! :) I aim this to be filmmaker-user-friendly. I only tested it on Windows 7.

List of features:

- Batch convert MLV files.
- Separate them into different DNG folders.
- Support for multi-folder if you have your footage organized in different folders. (Day, Card, Camera for example)
- Unique name system.
- Adobe DNG compression to Lossless or Lossy.
- Open listed MLV files with mlrawviewer.
- Select an XMP file to load automatically with Adobe Camera Raw. (just drop it into the Acr folder)
- WAV file renaming. This way you can grab all your folders in your root DNG folder and throw them into after effects. You will be prompted with ACR for each sequence. Time saver.
- Stop button.
- Check items to convert, move then up and down.
- Save settings and load them.
- Windos taskbar progress.
- Updater (will tell you when there's an update but you have to download yourself) NOT WORKING RIGHT NOW.
- Unique clip number for every comvertion you make. (the program remembers your last clip number, that way you will NEVER have duplicates. It goes up to 99999 and then goes back to 1)
- Card number increments on folder change.
- Support for small screens
- Info and warnings on disk space.
- Pause button
- Proxy creation (prores for now only) (can queue 2 proxies)
- Read MLV metadata. (resolution, fps, frames)
- THUMBNAILS, and more camera information.
- Individual progress.
- Dual ISO support.

Make sure you install Adobe DNG Converter, or it won't work! Download it here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows

Also, you have to install mlrawviewer to open files. Download here:
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=9560.0

And for thumbnails, you'll have to download IrfanView, maybe download the plugins too (for now, will try to fix it):
http://www.irfanview.com/

Everything is supposed to run smoothly, without any ugly terminals and windows coming up, with a nice progress bar, informing the user the progress all the way through. I aim it to be a professional solution for the ML RAW workflow, as this feature is SO great that it needs a proper and easy workflow!!!

Future features include:

- Optional LUT for proxies.
- Add reelname metadata. Useful for offline/online editing.
- Full MLV output, including compression to save disk space.
- Dual Iso support.
- Cinema DNG support.
- Drag n Drop.
- Display FULL metadata.
- Proper installer, with configuration saved in appdata.

For now the program is fully functional (and I hope bug free!) (don't worry, it won't erase anything..). I aim to continue it more, yes. When I started I only wanted the batch thing, but I got so excited that I had to keep going! I aim to do the queue function in a near future, but will see about the others! As some of them I have no idea how to make them... but if everyone's interested I can make the effort of course! :D

Version 1.9.2: DOWNLOAD

Hope you find it useful! My pleasure to make a contribution to the ML project... thanks SO much to the developers for making it possible! I await for your feedback if it has any bugs or if you have ideas on how to make it better!
Cheers!

Tragic Lantern / Re: 7D TL bugs

Since we are on this subject...

I tested for a full day the Raw 7D with TL and the latest build.. and so wanted to put in the little things I found..

- First of all, I was using my 32gb Transcend 133x.. that said I got a couple of corrupted frames every now and then.. just a few though.. pink and not pink too.

- It would be REALLY neat to have the option to disable the sound bars in LV.. just because sometimes you are not focusing on audio and they are distracting.. and so other overlays can come into place, it alters all the layour of the overlay items.

- I love the white rectangle that you get when you enter in raw video.. it is MUCH better for framing to have something white around your frame. But for example, in Play mode (mlv_play) the rectangle is on the center screen, but the video is shifted down, so it is not properly aligned. Also, in normal LV, it is a TINY LITTLE misaligned to the left.

- Regarding the last point, when you connect a monitor (i havent recently, but I remember this), the rectangle gets messed up, totally shifted towards its original position.

- Is there any way to remove the raw buffer/status overlays? I thought i've heard that there was an option, but couldn't find it. It will be a much cleaner interface. I remember some user created a custom icon for raw recording, can this be implemented?

- 5x Zoom, it is SO nice the crop mode.. but, you lose the ability to do a 5x zoom! Right? You CAN do it, but the LV turns into ML grayscale mode, which is pixelated and slow. And to be honest the magic zoom is also pixelated, but you can manage of course.

- 10x zoom still hangs sometimes, had to disable it. I never use it though.

- The EXIT button in mlv_play sometimes doesnt exit, sometimes it does.

- Apart from Raw.. something that always been there.. even though one doesnt have the expo override function on, the shutter speeds are weird.. maybe they are shown in degrees? But clearly.. if you are in normal mode and haven't touched anything, it SHOULD be 1/50 of a second and not 1/48, right??? It is a bit misleading that's it..

- In crop mode I got way more corrupted frames than the other few I got in all day.. is it still like that or is it my memory card that was crappy? (25MB/s though!!)

- Lastly.. the Text and Take metadata seem to reset every time I restart the camera!

Aaaaaanyway... not complaining at all!!!! I LOVE my 7D now!! It is a BEAST!!! One can use it perfectly.. though it would be *perfect* it it worked 100%!!

Regarding another matter, i've been working the last 2 days on a windows batch mlv2dng converter.. very complete, nice, simple and efficient!!! Version 1.0 almost done, will upload tomorrow.. hope everyone can get the juice out of it!!

If one was kind enough to read until here.. does anyone know how to import the dng sequences to AE with the audio files automatically?

Thanks to everyone!!!!! :)
Cheers!!

Awesome! Any chance you can uplaod it to vimeo? Or the original? Youtube compresses WAY too much... Did you use a VAF filter??

Cheers!

Hey all!! Very pleased with the last versions of ML.. really loving the digic peaking, thanks 1%, it appears to work flawlessly!! :)

Although I'd like to report a bug, a bit dangerous one.. very weird!!:
Randomly while using the camera, when I hit record I will get the canon buffer bars, which will fill in 2 seconds. Now, here comes the confusing part: I get 2 seconds of freezed live view, after that the rec icon on the top-right is still present, although nothing is recording! I check because then I have only a 2 second file.

I cant really tell when or how to reproduce the bug, it happened twice. Very random I guess.. I wasnt using anything fancy, I did however used the digic peaking.. but cant really tell if that's the problem. I think I had modules loaded but none activated via menus. I use a pretty basic ML while working. I did not get any crash report logs with this.

Does anyone know something about this?

BTW, I'm using Transcend 166x 32gb cards. I never got any buffer warnings ever.

Cheers!!!

Here is something I shot recently using ML 7D RAW

http://vimeo.com/79097919

Wow that's EXCELLENT!!! Video AND quality!!!! I wonder.. did you have a VAF filter on the 7D? If you did.. what do you think of doing Wide Shots with everything in focus? Does it come close to the 5D3? Is it worth it?

Thanks!

Thank you SO much 1%! Was testing these last 2 days the "peaking while recording" function.. I did all interviews.. very simple camera work.. did not change any settings while recording.. not even magic zoom.. But I didnt notice ANY performance issues whatsoever.. tomorrow I'll be in a more run n gun style.. will report back!! Thanks so much for listening!!

Also.. does it work on external hdmi monitor? I activated the Peaking and I'm not sure if it was "veeeeery slightly sharper" or if it didnt work at all.. Do you know something about it?

Cheers!!!!

PS: Oh and one more thing! Maybe I'm not aware of... can the sound bars be removed from the display? I'd like other information to show such as file name and others, it's also distracting for some types of work.. I notice when I press half shutter they show up and bars are hidden.. I think in the stable ML there is an option in the Audio menu.. isnt it here? Thanks again! :)

Edit 2: Monitor's resolution is 800x480 I think.. the most common one..

@1%
I think one of the best uses for digic peaking is when shooting hand held and focusing by eye. This becomes harder when digic peaking is off when recording. Its one of my personal reasons I loved it when it was implemented as it was faster, less distracting than the old peaking. I use it all the time on the 5dmkII. I hope you can fix it to be on while recording on the 7D.

Yes, yes and yes! I LOVE and MISS Digic Peaking. I can't focus without it nowadays.. I got way used to it, I think it's one of the most functional tools in ML. So there *is* a way? Before it used to work like a charm.. does it conflict with FPS Override? Well in that case i'll turn it off (I never use FPS override BTW..). But when you are on a run n' gun type of shooting it is awesome!

Pleeeeeease can you bring it back?? :) I remember it used to make the camera hang when you stop recording.. but that was after some implementations of the fps override..

Thanks SO muchhh!!!

Digic focus peaking? It shuts off when recording and would be sharper when you weren't

Is there a way to bring focus peaking back while recording??

Yey for the meter!! :D One other thing, the Digic Peaking works while not recording, but as soon as you hit record it goes away and you see normal lv.. can this be fixed or was this the workaround? It's the best tool for focusing :D Thanks!

Great news about the fix! Though I LOVE digic peaking!! It's SO useful.. ! I was gonna ask if it's possible to add a bit even more sharpen to it? I think the scarlet has one that is more exagerated am I right? And yes, temporarely it'll be nice to turn it on with every boot, but i'd love to see it fixed as I have it ALWAYS on..

Oh hey 1%, is it possible to add the function in the audio menu to Hide the audio bars? It must be really easy right? It's AWESOME all the new features we have in audio :D :D :D Thank youuuu!!! Gotta try the headphones asap!

And the last question, do you have any idea how to customize the new "bars facelift" awesomeness that it's being developed?

Thanks again and sorry for so many questions! :D

Hey anyone else is having a problem recording H264? It hangs when it stops recording.. what's the SAFE build for this problem? Or is there a workaround? Haven't loaded any modules..
Thanks!

Question: So if we DON'T enable FPS override then we can shoot H264 with NO problems? It WONT freeze if card is full or 4gb limit or buffer?
