Anyone can tell me how to access the bytes of the file header? I'm in VB, but the only readable string I get is "MLVI v2.0" which is the title of the header, after that, the remaining bytes of the header are strange symbols. How can I translate them into their actual values? I'm a rookie programmer who's developing the MLV converter for windows,

thanks!!!

Hi tony,
I tried v 1.3 and got an "unhandled exception" error message which says "Only supported on Windows 7 or newer". I have Vista. I had no trouble with your previous versions.
It happened when I hit the "CONVERT" button.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Oh my god! Does it happen ALWAYS? Tried with different files and settings?
Must be a Vista thing then... :S Shit... Will see what I can do! Will upload a new version ASAP.
Thanks for finding the error!!

Version 1.4 is out! If everything is correct next time you open the app it will prompt to download the update! Please report that to me ok?

Changes:

- Add tree of folders!!! :D So if you have your mlvs separated in Days, Cameras, Cards... will all be respected.
- Following this multifolder concept, the card number increments for each card/folder processed.
- Gary, I added support for the size, try resizing now ;)
- Warnings for low disk space.

Enjoy, and don't forget to check the updater before downloading from here!

Hi Toni,

first of all thanks a lot for your very useful tool! I am not quiet sure whether this is a bug or it has something to do with MlRawViewer v1.0.4 alpha. When I record a video with 21 fps I get the following MLV Viewer protocol:

MlRawViewer v1.0.4 alpha
(c) Andrew Baldwin & contributors 2013-2014
Using GLFW
Opening MLV file C:\Users\ich\Desktop\M31-1206.MLV
Black level: 2047 White level: 15000
FPS: 29.776
Audio frame count 346
Set indexed. Frames missing: 3
Audio loop running
Width: 2560 Height: 1090 Frames: 728
Using Bilinear demosaic algorithm
Indexing completed
Stopping Audio

So the FPS number is interpreted as 29.776 instead of 21 fps. Have you got any ideas about how to fix this?

Best regards

You should check with the guys of mlrawviewer! :)

Cheers!

tony, here is a pic of the problem you asked for.

thank you,
Gary

Wow! Never seen a screen so small.. but it's weird.. I have the same resolution as you!! 1366x768 I quote... so why the program is different sizes for both of us??? :S Will see if I can ass a shrink resize or something.. truth is if I shrink the UI in height everything will be too together and I will have to remove those "boxes" that say the title of the contents.. and I need them. The UI will become less intuitive visually I think.. AND, for example now I wanted to add more height, for an individual progressbar, and a system statusbar.. I guess I will have to trade with something.. will see. As I said, will ad a resize shrink to ALL function if i can!

Cheers!

Hi tony, thanks for the app; it's already great and I appreciate your efforts to improve it further!
One question; when you say:
"WAV file renaming. This way you can grab all your folders in your root DNG folder and throw them into after effects. You will be prompted with ACR for each sequence. Time saver."
I'm not sure I understand. The only way I know how to do it is to double-click in After Effects and browse to the folder with the dngs and select them all and open as raw sequence. In other words, I only know how to import one sequnce at a time. Is there a way to do multiple sequences at once?

Yes indeed. Go to the root of all your DNG folders.. select them all and drop them into the project bin. Not so tedious like that.. ;) It works because the audio file is now NOT the first file inside the folder.. so after effects imports a sequence by default.

Version 1.3 is out! Many things: Save and load settings, updater, unique clip number, move up and down items in list, windows taskbar icon progress and several bugfixes/improvements.

Would be interested to know if the wav file is fixed..

Enjoy!

Tony, I have your latest version and thank you for all your work.
Can you size the window so it is shorter vertically? Just tighten up evrything with all the spaces that are now there. Like between Output MLVs and File Naming. Between that and the next DNG compression section. The buttons below the window for file selections can also be made shorter. There is extra space below the text. I like the current size of your text which makes it easy for my old eyes to read. And so on withe everything. Then the whole UI display it can probably fit my monitor display which is 1360 x 768. Right now your window hides at the bottom below my taskbar and I cannot see any of the important bottom row. Maybe make your display user sizable? I have to use my monitor at its native display.

also, it can use a Deselect all function for file selection. Maybe make the Select button toggle that.

Really?! The window is bigger than your screen? :S I have the same resolution than you.. been measuring it with that.. do you have a bigger windows taskbar maybe? Mind to send me a screenshot?

Thanks!

i also get the same error. but, i rather keep all my raw files in one folder and the extractions in separate folders for good organization.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I changed it in my version. Will upload new version today, hehe. I made an option to save and load settings, which works perfectly! And.. wait for it... AN UPDATER!

Cheers!

Yes it is! Do you want me to change it?

Well I changed it, it's now possible.

Tony, ver 1.1 and ver 1.2 gives an error and and invalid folder settings if the source folder is the same as the destination/output. Is this intentional?

Yes it is! Do you want me to change it?
#212
Version 1.2!

It has bugfixes, small interface improvements, shows elapsed time and total time.
#213
Well yeah, now that MLV can record audio, it's just amazing! Why would you need the complicated H6 sync way then? (it's only reference audio though)

Anyway, well it's set to first check if there is audio or not.. I tested it myself and it converted files with no audio.. mm will check it again.

And yes, been reading about strange MLV behaviour.. grrr it's just too bad! Hope g33g0 can fix it.. been reading about the 40gig problem.. but yes, it is the future.. audio is one of the most important parts for me.. then you can compress the mlvs, do whatever you want..

In AE, when you import the DNG sequence you dont get the audio.. but for example if you go to the root folder of the DNGs, search for ".wav" and then drag everything into AE, because of the naming, it gets organized pretty well in the project bin, and then you can make your comps.. would be cool to have an automatic script for that..

Anyway.. bugfixing now.. will upload 1.2 tomorrow or in a short while.. will see..

Cheers!

Seems like the audio thing was the issue, I recorded everything without audio (still used to it after always shooting raw files).
What happened now - I took those three files from the first test. The first AND third DNG sequence was written .. but in the second folder only the XMP file could be found. If I put that (second) MLV file separately in an folder it gets converted without problems. Hm. Any idea?

Lol.. I wonder now what's going on.. So you have 3 MLVs without audio? Or some with audio and some without? Any other options activated?

Quote
Sorry if this has already been discussed else where (or here I tried searching) I have used your tool v1.1 and its awesome thank you. Does it write the time code to the DNG such that after effects can pick it up (if that is even possible) and use it when "Use source timecode from file" is selected.

Mmmhh.. I have no idea about that functionality! You mean so after effects an pick up the audio? I've been meaning to find a way to that..

Quote
can you make it work with RAW files also.. =)

Mmmh I don't know.. the whole point is to embrace the MLV format, which is in current development and has more features.. raw is discontinued now? Besides, there are other convertors out there for RAW files!

Tragic Lantern / Re: 7D TL bugs

So, if it's better to record with GD off, I have a useful suggestion:

Instead of having just the white rectangle, it would be VERY useful to have the non-recording space area with black. I always record in 2.35:1, so it's distracting to see the areas that I'm not recording.

I always wanted this feature, also, when you have a client monitor, it's very easy to use a "clear overlays" BUT KEEPING THE CROPMARK! :) Would it be possible?

Cheers!

Ok, I'll bite. whats aero?

Aero is the nice styling of the windows in windows 7, the transparent "glossy" windows style.. do you have that or your Windows system looks like the screenshot above?
#218
ONLINE NOW. Bugfix for the error that's been discussed. It happened that when an MLV had no audio, it stopped converting. Fixed now.

Ted, download it again please, the .zip has the same name, it's been replaced now.

And, I wonder why they show white... do you also have Aero disabled?
#219
Version 1.1 is out!

It has several bug fixes and a more polishes more intuitive interface functionality. Now you can check the items you wish to convert and it has a more solid, more visually attractive naming system. You can choose between custom XMP files.

Steve, please check if you still have the problem now. As I cannot reproduce it I don't know, but I changed the code a little. In the next release will change the way the program executes the commands, so it may help your case. You said you tried on a different computer?

OH HEY, maybe I have an idea... Are you recording the MLV with SOUND? There could be a problem ;) Will wait for your answer.

Enjoy!
#220
@steve, I am currently testing inputting files from a CF card onto another drive.. it's running fine for now. One question, which version of windows are you using? It looks like XP.. maybe it doesnt work quite well there...

Also I wonder why the labels are white... maybe an XP styling thing..

Quote from: kgv5 on January 29, 2014, 02:24:29 PM
@tonybeccar, sure, i will try to reproduce the bug and give you results  :)

One more important step is needed: support of DualISO files processing in such a converter app. I know it would be hard and requires cooperation of the devs in the first place. That would be the dream app for all ML users :)

Ho ho ho! Dual ISO files.. yes that will be the dream! Is there any RAW to DL-DNG for video? Bad thing is I have a 7D.. and dual iso VIDEO is not supported (yet :) )
#222
@steve,

Wow, i have no idea what's going on! Could you send me a screenshot of the program all filled out ready to convert?

@kgv5,

Ok I see.. so weird that only processes 3 :S. Would love to track the bug, could you also send me a screenshot of the program with every setting filled?

@ted,

Yes!! Indeed! It is on my thoughts.. to make a config.ini and a button to save settings. Very useful!

@jayzed,

Thanks! Yess, that's why I was so compelled to make it! ;)

I'm working on 1.1, already added a checkbox to select which mlv files to convert. Enhanced the renamer to follow the basics of RED naming mix with BMCC folder structures. Working also to compress the MLV files (slow but yes! more space saved!). Will support full MLV output of course.
#223
I'm thinking.. did you choose the lossless or lossy option? I guess if you don't have adobe dng converter installed then the program will not continue.

Tony, thanks for writing this!! Great! Now I´m starting to test mlvs .. finally. ;)

One question, though. I added three MLVs to the "files to convert" window, on the progress bar after clicking CONVERT it says 1/3 .. but then it only converts the first file, does not create folders for the other two .. and says "Successful."  Did you encounter something like that before? Or am I missing anything? It looks like that even in the commandline there´s no error etc. popping up.

thanks!

Steffen

:/ !!! How are your mlv files named? Do you have enough disk space? Have you renamed any file alongside the Converter.exe? What are your DNG and MLV paths? Did you try renaming options?

Sorry there are no logs for now haha, there will be though.. Well, you can take a screenshot of the program and upload it..

Does it happen with every mlv file or just with those 3?
#225
Wow, yes! very fast and responsive! :D Thank you!!!

Agree with Ted, the wav file will eventually be extracted with the dng's, so we dont need it on the mlv folder, the mlv container is supposed to have the audio included!

Thanks for the issue list, didnt know about that one! Cheers!!
