Share Your Videos / doc style protest footage (shot on eos m)
« on: June 02, 2020, 01:46:25 AM »

2 lenses used, tamron 45mm and a vintage om 100 f/2.8. all handheld with a small monopod / tripod pressed against my chest to stabilize the shaking footage.

I was wondering if a custom field could be entered so I can choose the video stretch instead of the preselects like 1.33x, 1.55x, etc.

doesnt work for the eos m?

Wonderful colors, what lens did you use?

Wonderful editing.

How did you rig up your camera? Very smooth shots.

1. Thanks! I used a VAF-D800 meant for a Nikon D800 full frame camera since it was the only one I could find used. I removed the plastic trim around the filter and hallowed out the interior plastic of the camera by sanding it down. This way, it fit right in front of the aps-c senor. I also had to sand down a tiny corner of the glass as it barely fit and I already hit the metal frame. Strangely, the 'right' trigger button on the scroll wheel broke today. Some plastic bits feel inside the interior body of the camera, not sure if this caused problems.
2. I will try. At the moment, the camera is broken haha!
3. I bought it used, they are quite difficult to obtain. Couldn't justify paying retail when you can  buy 3 used eos-m's for that price.

First picture is when I mounted it in front of my viltrox speedbooster. However, I really wanted to use my ef-m lens since I wanted an ultra portable setup. I decided to experiemnt on my spare eos-m.

Mosiac engineering filter installed on the camera, tested with the kit lens ef-m 18-55 and the ef-m 22mm. MCM rewire, full sensor read out, upscaled to 4k

Aliasing and moire is still present but reduced enough that I dont have to throw away as much footage.

which scene had aliasing?

great look zeek!

24mm f/2.8 is usm with the eos-m. mcm rewire mode

Wonderful work, did you notice any aliasing in any of the footage with 2.5k mode?

Cant wait for a 5k mode video!

yup! haven't heard of any monitor issues as long as your using the 1080 / mcm rewire mode.

Just remember to get a good sd card and your set!

I would really like this too - Can you get any other 4x3 resolutions to work?

Mcm rewire is one solution but the downside is aliasing.

If you perfer 5k mode (as i do) you can select any crop mode and lower the resolution until you get 4:3 (as shown in the white box). Downside is lower quality from the crop and a 50mm lens will behave more like 100mm.

I don't think the 35mm is 24mm with a speed booster.

The actual focal length is 35x1.6x.71 which is around 39.71mm.

I also have a 35mm f/2 and i think it looks very nice with the eos-m. It behaves more like a 50mm on our aps-c sized cameras.

I am trying to obtain this field of view / resolution (yellow box) by setting the ratio to 'off' and lowering the resolution until I get around 1104x2484. However, I cant get past 12 FPS despite ML saying continuous recording is ok. Both resolutions are similar in pixel count but im having trouble understanding why the yellow box is unobtainable. This is in 5k mode. Can someone please explain, thank you!

I'll give it a go. I thought 5k cropped the top and bottom to get more frames (longer shots). With 4x3 giving you more height, and less width, I could still get more frames than shooting 16x9, and not have to estimate my framing.

This is how ratios work (to my understanding). 5k max offers the biggest picture but unusable for the most part due to its cpu demand. By selecting the 2:35:1 ratio (on the outer menu), you get 4392x1870. It is more than just cutting the top and bottom of 5k max. It is quite a crop but offers decent shooting time from a couple seconds to minutes depending if you decide to lower the resolution a bit.

5k max and mcm rewire are similar in that they both allow you to record at the 'full picture' but the resoluton is significantly smaller and comes with drawbacks like more aliasing.

Please correct me if im worng, i do not know the right terminology.

would it be better to overexpose to the right, as long as it doesnt clip?

Do you think it will work with ef-s 10-18 and the viltrox ef- efm (not speed booster)?

yes it should work fine

I noticed the right button on the scroll wheel isn't available to assign as a custom button. Maybe we can use that for other features like switching between framing and liveview so we can free up the info button? Or maybe a button to cycle between isos from 100-400?

Great work as always Danne

Amazing work zeek!

The EF 17-40/F4 is a bit longer than the 35mm and I believe it will hit the back plate / arm of the gimbal.

The 35mm f/2 is definitely doable but as for all gimbals, even the weebill-s, you have to control your movements, especially while walking or your video will bounce up and down. I used a 24mm in my video, so the 35mm bounce will be even more noticable due to the longer focal range.

If you dont mind walking slowly and doing the ninja walk, I recommend the m2.

I actually have a feiyutech g6 max (just released a week ago) that I will test out. It is bigger than the m2 but still smaller than most other gimals. It has a max payload of 1200 grams which is significant for most lens.

Thank you for your interest!
