Raw Video / 5D Mk iii Raw or BMPCC 4K?
March 18, 2019, 01:21:54 AM
Thinking about selling my MK iii and getting the BMPCC 4K. What do y'all think or suggest?

Cinelog is commercial and I don't have it. So I am not able to see what you are doing. What kind of LUT is that? Is it a .cube 3D LUT? As I understood cinelog is more than just a LUT. Could you open that in a browser and see if it is correct to the specification?
If MLVApp tells "File with invalid header or file is too long.", this means that the LUT is not correct: there are more values included than the header of the file told before, or no value at all is included.

It is a .cube 3D LUT intended to convert BMD Film to Cinelog. It's intended use is for Davinci. I'll upload images later.

Raw Video / Raw preview in Crop not working.
March 11, 2019, 06:41:31 AM
When in crop mode, I used to be able to press and hold shutter half way to display the raw framing, but it doesnt do that anymore, I just get Canon metering menu. Can anyone help?

Are IRND filters recommended for the 5Diii? Or is it effective with IR cut?

I'm trying to get Cinelog output for MLV App? I tried BMDFilm then use conversion lut "BMD_to_Cinelog" but got an error message saying file too long or wrong header. Any work around? I love Cinelog and would like to use it in MLV App for faster turn around projects.

Looks good dude. Did you use a LUT? If so which one?

Raw Video / Re: Reccommended ISO for 14 bit Lossless

Thanks. I actually have dyslexia. I always get curt and obnoxious replies from experienced and knowledgeable members. Too bad they aren't as generally helpful on this site.

Raw Video / Reccommended ISO for 14 bit Lossless
March 02, 2019, 04:51:28 AM
In the ML menu. When I highlight 14 bit lossless is says " Recommended Iso < 100" Does this mean to use Iso values greater than 100? or 100? I thought native ISO's were 160,320,640,etc.

Thanks for the useful advice walter. I tried cleaning the pins and contact plates with no luck. The lens and body are fairly new. I'm assuming it is the AF switch or the internal electronics. Good thing I still have my warranty.  8)

My Sigma 50 mm 1.4 DG HSM Lens is switching bewtween AF and MF when trying to use AF. I've uninstalled ML and Cleared cn funcs and cleared all settings with still no luck. Any Suggestions. Here's a link with video.

Here is my current incomplete workflow. 600D RAW MLV

1. Record MLV 1344X504
2. Tony Beccar's MLV2DNG Batch
3.Import DNG to AE. Apply VisionLog profile. Make WB and exposure correction.
Now here is where my question lies. Do I make color correction of RGB levels and blacks/whites before or after I apply a lut, (currently using Osiris Luts) or should I even use a lut?) What is the best application in AE to color grade? Something that has color wheels, along the same lines as Davinci. After color grading, Neat video plugin for NR. Export as Lagarith codec.
4. Resize via Video Enhancer.
5. Adobe Premiere CC add film grain + audio + transitions.

Thanks for the advice guys. I have uploaded a new video with no grain.

I did use Neat Video noise reducer plugin prior to adding grain. Should I add grain before I reduce noise? May I add that I film on a Canon 600D at 1344x504 and upscale to 1080p via Video Enhancer. I export as h.264 with VBR pass 2 with 75 value for target bit rate for web upload. Maybe to large of an upscale is creating artifacts? All in all, I'm somewhat pleased with the quality. Please let me know if I can do anything to enhance the quality. Cheers :)

I may have added a bit too much grain. Please share your thoughts.

Thanks for the reply. I believe I have the latest version of Adobe converter downloaded. Tony Beccar's convertor requires it. Could it possibly be in the advanced settings of Adobe converter?

I'm getting frustrated that I can't figure this out! I use Tony Beccar.s MLV convertor 1.9.2 to convert my MLV'S to DNG'S. When I import the DNG'S to ACR, it only gives me the option to use "embedded profile" on the camera profile menu. I'd like to convert it to Visionlog! I notice that there is an option to encode with an acr visionlog.xmp, but when I do that it doesn't work. Is it because a lack of metadata? I'd greatly appreciate some help.

Raw Video / Pink Cast Problem with latest mlv_rec
March 26, 2014, 09:57:19 PM
I use raw_rec module on latest nightly on my 600D. I use Batchelor 3.0 to process my DNG's. When I import my DNGs to Lightroom, I get a pink cast on them. When I import them into AE, ACR eliminates the pink cast. Do I need to update my raw2dng in Batchelor to eliminate the pink cast when imported into LR? Some insight would help. Thanks!

Let me know what you think guys! Feedback would be greatly appreciated. This is my first attempt at shooting with raw. 1280x512 upscaled to 1920x768.

I thank you for the reply and useful information.  :) Sorry. I'm not being lazy.  I'm just very new to all of this.

I am creating a proxy for offline workflow with initially starting with davinci. When exporting for offline edit. Which form of DNxHD codec is comparable to ApplePro Res 422? There are a lot of options to choose from. Can someone please help. Thanks.

Gotcha. Thanks for the reply Luiz.  8)

I record at 1280x512 with a 600D and use this workflow. http://nofilmschool.com/2013/09/tutorial-canon-5d-mark-iii-magic-lantern-raw-offline-online/ I would like to upscale/uprez (same thing?) to 1920x768. At what point in this workflow should I uprez? Some input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
