Eos M starts without ml card and can be used without ml card. But remember to switch overlays etc on, otherwise you don't see it.

Thank you. If I've understood, it is safe to switch in cards without ML on them and go back to ML when needed.  Right?

Anyway, I tried it and survived. So I guess the answer is yes and no brick.

Thanks, Walter.
Again I've searched that link without finding the answer to whether I can safely switch cards; one with ML; one without.   I know about powering up with the set button pushed so ML doesn't load, which is the closest thing I could find on that link (except that did NOT work on my EOS M).

I bravely went ahead and just swapped cards along with the lens (ML doesn't work, I understand, due to shutter bug with ISM lenses) and everything seems to work fine.  No brick. Phew.

Thank you but I don't think that was my question.  I have read the User Guide on how to uninstall ML from the EOSM.  But I don't really want to do that.  What I would like to do is keep one SD card for use with my 22mm f/2.0 lens with ML permanently installed on it and when I swap lenses to the 18-55mm f/3.5 lens, also swap SD cards to a different SD card that has never had ML installed on it.  So my question is can I do that, or is there something permanently installed in the EOSM memory that requires me to UNINSTALL ML, before changing SD cards to another that does not have ML installed on it?

Thanks again.

Nor sure where to ask this, but the EOSM for 2.02 firmware would seem to be the relevant place, since that is what I installed on my camera:
I've just succeeded in getting ML loaded and working with my Canon EOS M  with 2.02 firmware and the EF-M 22mm f/2.0 lens for nightscape photography.  Works great, thanks very much all you guys working on this.  However, my other lens is the 18-55mm f3.5 ISM lens which I understand has the "shutter bug" and which, in any case, I don't need ML (at least at this point).  MY QUESTION IS:  Can I just swap SD cards; one with ML installed, the other without, or do I need to uninstall ML on the SD card that has it installed before swapping????   I don't want to turn my EOS M into a brick, so I would love to get an answer to this question before actually trying it.
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Hi,-
I've just succeeded in getting ML loaded and working with my Canon EOS M  and the EF-M 22mm f/2.0 lens for nightscape photography.  Works great, thanks very much all you guys working on this.  However, my other lens is the 18-55mm f3.5 ISM lens which I understand has the "shutter bug" and which, in any case, I don't need ML (at least at this point) which is good because of the bug with ISM cameras. MY QUESTION IS:  Can I just swap SD cards; one with ML installed, the other without, or do I need to uninstall ML on the chip that has it before swapping????   I don't want to turn my EOS M into a brick, so I would love to get an answer to this question before actually trying it.

General Help Q&A / Re: EOS M Help for newbie

Thanks. I had to leave for the field when I posted that but did figure it out.  I needed 2 fingers, then it showed a text screen and I found I had to tap that also with two fingers to get to the ML menus.   I used the intervelometer successfully, I think, so I'm very appreciative of this great s/w you guys here are working on.   Is there some kind of write-up on all the specific EOS M interaction methods because they seem to be quite different from what is in the v2.3 User Guide?
Thanks again.

Ok, I figured it out in the field. It took two 2-finger taps; one to get ML going and a second on the ML text screen to get the ML menu's (select with dial or <>).  I think, in fact, everything worked quite well my first time out and I got very good data.  Very promising.   No sign of the 'shutter bug' with the intervelometer running fine for several hours unattended.
Thanks all you guys working on ML and ML for EOS M.  Great job!!!
(I have a lot to learn about what else is there aside from the Intervelometer)

Note: I used the EF-M 22mm lens which is not ISM and, I understand, not subject to the 'shutter bug'

General Help Q&A / EOS M Help for newbie
May 26, 2014, 12:51:31 AM
Ok, I just followed the video at

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSS41UOUNIg

about how to load ML on EOS M.

It did load, I powered off/on and I see the ML headings along the bottom and the top.
The UG I have says ERASE should then bring the ML menu up (so I can simply choose INTERVELOMTER) but nothing happens.
Nothing happens when I hit any other key to bring up the ML Menu.
How is one supposed to do that?  I'm i Manual still mode (center setting on top).
Thanks,
Jeff

Hi, I also was interested in loading ML on my EOS M in order to do some timelapse nightscapes so I'm glad to hear that the intervalometer function is working.  But I keep hearing about the 'shutter bug' that just stops ML and requires power off/on to recover from.  Doesn't that stop the intervalometer? You certainly couldn't leave the camera unattended with that bug still present so, I don't think I can use ML until this bug is fixed or there is some way to avoid it occurring.
Thanks,
-Jeff
