Someone told me that if i wanted to erase my Magiclantern install the best way for now (till we have a decent unninstaller) would be to upgrade to 1.1.3 fw version

Hey,
I am just wondering if upgrading to the new 1.1.3. firmware will disable boot flag !
I mean installing ML with firmware 1.1.1 and then upgrading it to 1.1.3. Will it be a clean uninstall of ML ?
I just want to make sure that it is possible to disable it before enabling it
PS: Thanks to everybody who is working on this !
Thanks,
TML

Disabling the bootflag is very easy, one line of code in fact. The problem arises because of how risky it is to disable it, the devs don't want people claiming ML bricked their camera and so to prevent this the ability has been taken away for now until a more reliable way has been found.
a1ex should be able to create a .fir to disable the bootflag safely.

There are two main issues with the boot flag being enabled on the 5d3:
* startup time is increased from 0.1 seconds to approx 1.2 seconds (without loading ML). If loading ML from a card, the startup time is more like 1.7s. This is the time from switching on the camera to being able to take the first shot, and crucially wake-from-sleep takes exactly the same amount of time, which is a PITA for stills shooters.
* you can't use EyeFi cards in a camera that has the boot flag enabled.
There is currently no way to disable the boot flag on the 5d3 once enabled AFAIK.

Because that's the aspect ratio than canon decided to use for the screen LV buffer
Besides, define "normal" there are many different "normal" aspect ratios (3:2, 4:3, 5:4, 5:3, 1:1, 16:9, 16:10, 2.54:1, etc) which one should be given preference?
Just crop it
or don't be so afraid to use your shutter, the shutter is your friend

I am not aware of such an issue ever being reported.

Why are you so worried about removing the bootflag? It doesnt' affect the camera, just tells it to look for a bootable card. If you don't want ML, just format the card on your computer and your camera will operate normally as from Canon.

To disable the bootflag in the camera you must put the .fir file back in the card and do a firmware update (assuming that ML is running right now and bootflag is enabled). I this does not work then you could bypass ML pressing the set button on boot and then do the firmware update.
Remember that you must do a card reader format in order to disable the bootflag of the card.
I only own a 5D3 and a 7D so I cannot confirm this procedure for your camera. Maybe someone who owns such model can help you..

goto canon menu, go to firmware update, get the screen to show ML booted... turn off then on n do the same, then when got green screen change to another mode (P,Av) turn camera off... remove card format on a COMPUTER...
