Hi guys, i made a new video about the vibration problems on Gimbals, like the beholder DS1 or Zenmuse.
Also i am talking about the Steadicam vs Gimbal problem. Some of the shots are in raw, i think you ll notice which ones ;)

Thanks guys!
I used the ML Raw Video converter (1.9.1). Also mixed the footage- the steadicam, wide and some close shots of the playing band were shot in h264, and yeah- there was this one gopro shot in the sink ;)

Hi guys, here is another video i shot in ML Raw.
Since the first RAW production 2 years ago, i am pretty much into it (and love it)
Out of 100 clips i had like 5 with pink frames. My experience- let the camera cool down and format the cf as often as possible.
Workflow as usual, import to AE, debayer, noise reduction in ae (safes memory when editing in pp)- usually i export a log (cineform 10 bit), but this time i had the look in my mind, so i did the (main) cc in acr.

6
Normal Canon magnification: via menu you can place it on the set button for example

7
Actually this video is a good example why not to use ultra-flat styles like Cinestyle with 8 bit.
There s nothing you will win- you even run the risk of losing highlights when grading, like in the video.

Just to understand- do you mean real 4k footage, or is this trick all about scaling up 1080p footage to 4k in post with better results on vimeo and youtube with 1080p playback?

Raw Video / 2 bad Frames in sequence, any help?
« on: May 15, 2016, 02:06:48 PM »
Hi guys,
i only shot this once, so if anyone could help me with this problem, that would be great.
I did the mistake and used to many overlays during recording...
Now i have 2 bad frames. Is there anything i can do?
Shot on MK3 with a nightly from last year i guess...
I have a dropbox link with the two corrupt dngs and one before and after

I really appreciate any kind of help.

Shoot preparation / Re: Best preset for film look
« on: May 14, 2016, 12:39:01 PM »
Never ever use cinestyle.
With h264, you re recording 8 bit files. The best way to go is to film as close as your final video should look like.
You can´t compare real log to cinestyle or other profiles, it does not work like  this.
Turn down sharpness, and use a less flat profile like flaat or neutral. Marvel gives you a orange/teal look and is nice, but sometimes fucks up the skintones.

15
-Go for a shoulder rig
-use a viewfinder
-learn to seperate your forearm movements from the rest of your body

These are the "smallest" solutions.
Take it a step further and use a steadicam or a gimbal, but that´s more equipment and more money.

Haha, someone with a good taste in music ;)

I stabilized with After Effects. Sometimes the Warp Stabilizer works, sometimes it´s better to go with traditional 2 point tracking.
Got three other "tips" on my blog http://sas-image.de/hyperlapse/

Never heard of reel steady, just had to check what it ist. Does anyone have any experience with it?

I think the stabilizers in ae with mocha are fine with hyperlapse so far.

I had some hyperlapse clips on my hdd, and why not put them into a video ;)
All with ML, some nightclips with Silent Pictures.

Hi guys,

this is just a heart -project, nothing i got paid for. I shot some clips of my beautiful hometown over the last years, and made a trailer out of it.
Just added some subtitles, because it´s located in Germany.
Completely shot in raw (mlv), as usual, debayering the dngs via acr, exporting 10bit avis to Premiere.
Color grading via Magic Bullet Colorista. Love it.

I did not show it to anybody yet.

Hardware and Accessories / Re: Beholder gimbal test / raw
« on: February 26, 2016, 02:13:21 PM »
Because a Steadicam is a lot smoother in action.
As i wrote in my review, gimbal and steadi are two completely different things. Considering following a person , this is a steadicam one for example.
Shooting from a car, in windy conditions or with exttreme long lens, a gimbal is the way to go.

ds1 is half the price and size of the Ronin.
If we speak of quality, i d rather rent a professional steadicam operator than using any of this gimbal shit.

Hi guys,
i tested the new Beholder DS 1 gimbal, as it seems perfect for the MKIII.
Shot in Raw, no big color grading.
I also wrote a review, so check this out if you like: http://sas-image.de/beholder/

Thanks.

Hi and thanks a lot, vielen Dank!
For the opening... it s a pretty simple way of a "fake timeslice",
the people stood there, not moving at all while i ran through the scene with a steadicam. Tracked several parts of the scene and added the 3d elements.
For shooting outdoors, it s important to check the trees and gras and everything that could be moving due to the wind.
