General Help Q&A / Re: Shutter speed in video
November 04, 2013, 05:40:04 PM
Thanks again!

I have installed and uninstalled ML in my 60D, tried different SD cards, and still I could not manage to decide the exposure time itself manually. However, if I set the exposure to "Auto", then I get long exposure times (1/fps). But I still cannot control it. Anyway, it is good enough as it is now, thanks for all the tips!

Hi all,

I have done several time-lapses with ML, but this is the last one I took, and I wanted to share it with you.
Also, a small question: towards the end of the video, there is a change in color temperature that I cannot manage to get rid of: I shot everything in RAW, and set the color temperature to 3500K. I was alone, with no light sources around, but still something changed on the footage. Does any of you have a suggestion to fix this?
Thanks and enjoy!

General Help Q&A / Re: Shutter speed in video
October 21, 2013, 07:25:49 PM
@ItsMeLenny: sorry for the late reply. Yes, I am talking about the shutter speed in video (that was the name of the topic). I have tried doing what you said, but that is the problem that I can not manage to manage.
However, I have also found out that other features started to fail, such as bulb ramping. I tried uninstalling and re-installing ML on my 60D, but nothing was  fixed.
I am wondering if there is something wrong with my camera, since it used to work before. Any comment/help will be appreciated :)

General Help Q&A / Re: Shutter speed in video

@ItsMeLenny: Thank you for your reply; I have tried that, but I only manage to get it down to 1/30 sec even with exposure override. However, if I hit the "info" button until I get the ML layout in LV, it will automatically decide which is the best exposure (up to 1.8"), but that is something I cannot control by myself.
I have now uninstalled and re-installed ML completely to be sure that I did not mess up some controls: Then set video exposure to "Manual", 0.2 fps and exposure override ON. Doing the simple math, this should allow me to use up to roughly 5 seconds of exposure (0.2 fps = 1 frame/5 seconds). It does not matter how much I turn the wheel, it will still show 1/30 in the default LV, and the ML LV will just decide by itself... Any thoughts?

General Help Q&A / Shutter speed in video
August 16, 2013, 08:49:26 PM
Hi all,

I am getting all my equipment ready for the winter time, where I plan to use ML for low FPS and slow shutter speed. I did some trials last year and it worked perfectly, I could choose the FPS I wanted. Now, with the same card and ML, I can set the FPS down to 0.2, but the shutter speed will not go below 30 in LiveView. If I check the display with ML information, I see that ML decides automatically what is the best shutter speed.
Am I missing something? I would like to decide exactly the exposure time. I tried changing the EXPO value, but it does not allow me to do anything (values won't change when I move the wheel)
I am using a 60D, and the rest of the features I have used work perfectly.

I am using a Samyang 14mm manual (non-chipped) lens, but it is exactly the same setup I used last year. Any suggestion?

Thank you!

Hi BradleyStearn,

I liked your startrail, and I think that this is a nice technique that requires a bit of planning. Even if the moon itself can be sometimes disturbing, you could as well include it in the composition. Adjusting the exposure and bringing up the stars with the clarity tool in Lightroom will give you more flexibility with the illumination.

Could you give the camera settings you used? It looks to me that you could have used shorter exposure times and get a darker sky.

I have made several startrails myself, and I usually try to avoid the moon. However, here you can see one that I posted on youtube where I intendedly included the moon:

Hi all!

I finally managed to finish a time-lapse using ML in my EOS 60D. I took a picture every three minutes and mounted it at 20fps.
I hope you like it!

Any comment is highly appreciated!

Shoot Preparation / Time lapse with ML
May 18, 2013, 12:05:46 PM
Hi all,

I wanted to give some info about my photographic project I have started now. I prepared a simple setup to make a time lapse of a lentil growing from seed to the adult plant: I used the kit lens (macro lens would magnify too much), with f=22 (I could/should have used a bit lower f, on the hindsight), on a tripod and with a battery grip that allowed me to change the batteries without moving the camera.
Then, I set the built-in intervalometer to take a picture every 3 minutes.

Apart of the battery duration, which is about 7 hours each (14-15hours with the grip), I had a big issue with the intervalometer stopping every 300 pictures more or less. This was quite inconvenient, and because of this, part of my time-lapse project now has some gaps in between. Therefore, I decided to stop using the camera and took my old HTC phone: with a proper program, I just have the phone plugged into the wall socket and I have enough memory for 8000 pictures.

The down side of using the phone for the time-lapse is that the picture quality is of course worse, since I want to focus on something small...

So, I wanted to explain what my project was, and also ask for some support: doe anyone know why did my camera stop taking pictures every now and then? And also: is there any risk for the camera to be on for several days? That was another of the reasons to stop using my 60D.

If you have any question, just ask and I will reply happily :)
