The 650D has one less button compared to the 600D (I think)

I don't know anything about compiling code for the development of ML, but can a screen tap be considered a button or maybe a double tap?

Ah, I love the reality TV folks switching to DSLR because of the beauty of the image over VIDEO. And news folks, and documentary producers, and advertising productions....

I have a question for this crowd. Are RED and Black Magic Cinema video cameras? And what should we consider the differences are between digital film and video cameras?

Sharp lenses make sharp images... put your money in the glass. Also DSLR produces a great image in low light and you have the bonus of a creamy archival quality image that doesn't look flattened out. My experience is that a wedding is a staged event and with planning and use of jibs and sliders you convey much more of the emotional aspect of the event than with zoom on the fly. 8)

following the process of the development of a public version of magic lantern is almost as cool as using a public version of magic lantern. so far i've enjoyed the show!

Thanks for the dedication to this project :)

Btw i got feedback from the testers for the second closed doors alpha. No major bugs so far but it needs a couple of more tweaks

Agree with baga t4i is an upgrade to the t5i and ever spinning dial forces you to look at what setting you are stopped on. Maybe canon used the t5i as a means to be rid of the grip recall issue?

If crop mode is in T5i, I wouldn't advise you to add it in ML ;)

Lets start fresh. :)  What version of ML are you using in your T4i/650d or are you using another model camera?  Maybe that's why we have different opinions.  Also quite a few of features ML can do haven't been activated yet and maybe that's why are opinions differ.

I'm not really a jerk. I just play one on TV. My T4i/650d is without my beloved Magic Lantern until it comes out of pre-alpha hiding. Prior to my T4i I used a T2i with Magic Lantern. I very much miss Magic Lantern and purchased my T4i hoping and praying that one day it too would be graced with the powers of this software, hackware, or whatever you guys want to call it.

To clear up my rantings from before I love canon cameras and I love them even more with Magic Lantern. I will defend them both and sometimes it makes me sound like a jerk. I'm sorry for that. :-\

If I were to bet, less than 1% of canons are purchased because they are ML hackable.  Most likely that same 1% goes for ML users.

1% of 22.6 billion is how much? I'll take it!

Canon doesn't design or market their cameras as easily hacked so people will buy them. Yes we all like the fact Canons can be hacked but don't think they do that to attracted more customers.  They save money by basically using similar (not necessarily identical) software and hardware in there models.  They just turn on more futures the more expensive camera you purchase.

As far as research and development goes.  Canon knows what their cameras can do but they turn off those features so you buy a more expensive camera to use them.

Although this is the wrong forum for this topic, clearly some think that "hacking" which ML is NOT doing, is the same thing as developing software code, which ML IS doing.

Canon turns on and off features based on it's ability to get the product to market within the parameters with the research and development available for the given hardware they put into their camera's.

As hardware quality and performance increase so to does the price. It's not a simple turn on or off a feature to make the price higher.

Some of the features that ML provides Canon Camera division is not permitted to provide because no compete laws with Video production.

As for making a computer more productive with software vs buying a faster computer? apples and oranges. no one said ML makes the cameras faster, just more productive.

r&d costs money as does testing and marketing. ml is saving them tons. don't be fooled by the corporate line that they don't want them to make this product or future products. it benefits canon to have these guys working their tails off. it keeps canon at the fore of the consumer digital film industry.

it's no different than making an app for a computer that makes it more productive

Canon should pay these guys. Magic Lantern generates as much interest in canon products as canon's own marketing, maybe more.

I'm not familiar with how Magic Lantern gets it powers but maybe if it is possible to access the sensor cleaning mechanism and some sort of fuzzy math then poof! I know it's a fantasy but it would be great to use with vintage lenses  8)
