I know there's lots of amazing things on the horizon for ML - but for me and maybemany others an interims version which does not have to be loaded via firmware update all the time would be a real relief.

Could such a thing be released without too much work on dev's side or isthis functionality just not ready yet?

there will be a new 7D release as soon the current changes to menu etc etc etc are done.
you dont want a buggy menu i think...

i am investigating loading from autoexec.bin the last 3 weeks.
its not possible that easy, so it will take its time.

Yes please, can you estimate if and when loading ML from within the camerea will be available? As the BlackMagic Cinema Camera gets delivered so slowely I guess many of us will be happy to use their 7D with ML.

But as I'm going to Australia in April I'm a bit afraid ML will be not as useful to me as it could as keeping the camera running all the time will shurely heat it up too much down under (had this problem twice before in Oz when I did interviews and had to stop inbetween as the 7D turned too hot although it was kept off at all times not necessarily running).

how are the cards formatted? which FAT type?

they're both formatted inside the 7D as the instructions say.

Just discovered the following:

when using a SanDisk Extreme III 30MB/s CF-card ML can be loaded as a firmware update and I can access its menu and change values but it can't be loaded to operate the 7D with it.

When using my Transcend UDMA 400x CF-card everything works fine.

No big issue, just thought I add this here.
