Shoot Preparation / New film ratio cropmarks
January 03, 2018, 09:38:52 AM
Hi! I've created a set of 3 film ratio cropmarks for Magic Lantern.
You can get them here:
www.lightonglass.com/Kims_Crop_Package.zip

They include:
A: 1.85:1 Academy Flat
(Films like 'Taxi Driver', 'Saving Private Ryan', and 'The Godfather')
B: 2.39:1 Cinemascope (Modern)
(Films like 'Blade Runner 2049', 'Casino Royale', and 'Airport')
C. 2.76:1 Ultra Panavision 70mm
(Films like 'The Hateful Eight', 'It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World', and 'Mutiny on the Bounty')

These should work with any ML instalation.
They include the calibration marks found in CRSSMTR2.BMP
They have subdued ID marking so you can see at a glance which one you have loaded.
The borders are red, the surrounds are translucent - so you can see what is just outside your frame.

To use them, shoot with a 1920 x 1080 camera using them for framing, then in post create a sequence with the following dimensions:

A: 1.85:1 Academy Flat
Create a sequence that is 1920 x 1038

B: 2.39:1 Cinemascope
Create a sequence that is 1920 x 803

C. 2.76:1 Ultra Panavision 70mm
Create a sequence that is 1920 x 696

Enjoy!

Japanese garden in moving HRD video.
Canon 60D, ML, Adobe AE.

The combined high and low frames remove the crushed shadow details but the highlights are not blown out.
Check out the high and low sample frames.
