Share Your Videos / Crop mode 5d3 2880X1320 Animals
November 06, 2016, 10:06:40 PM

friends, I tried, for the first time, the crop mode magic lantern settings with a 50mm canon lens in my 5d mark III (august 2015 build).
2880X1320 with Global drawing On, histogram and waveform On, mlv sound Off.
There were frames skipping but I continued so that the recording goes for longer than 6 seconds.

Mlv to cdng by raw2cdng
Colored in resolve
music converted to wav in premiere, added to resolve (resolve doesn't accept mp3)

I would happy to know what could have made the video better.. Thanks.

Hi friends, I hope the post is relevant here... I am thankful, whole-heartedly to the creators and members of Magic Lantern. My first feature film now under post-production is being shot with magic lantern raw. I thought of sharing the poster here. The film being an independent one, magic lantern was extremely useful in bringing up the quality.

Great works friends from you all. Really great and am grateful to you all. This is a Tamil language film from Chennai, India ;) Name is translated as 'Nolan Equation.'

I am a newbie in filmmaking too, I will share the pics, trailers with you all soon.

Creators and developers of magic lantern and supporting software guys, here is my kneeling thanks :) Hopefully one day, I will meet you all in person to thank you.

Hi friends, my footage is mlv files from 5d3.. I am new to color grading. I have graded a footage applying LUTs. Inside Resolve, the footage is bright and sharp. After I render and watch it in vlc player, it is slightly dull. This look is seen in all render forms like dnxhd 444, dnxhd 220/10bit.

I haven't calibrated the monitor (LED HP pavilion 22fi)...Just tried my hands on grading. Why is this difference occuring? Should i consider this dull output and tweak a little extreme in resolve?

thanks.

hi, sorry if this is a basic question and i do not know this. Data rate of dslr is 50Mbps, prores 220Mbps, R3D is 150 MB/s, Cdng from blackmagic is also the same. But I wanted to know what is the data rate of cdng from 5d3 mlv files? In other words, in what rate should the transfer of 5d3 mlv cdngs files be, into an editing software for real time playback? thanks

Hi friends, I am getting a pink horizontal strand or lines at different frames in 5d3 .mlv footage while playing in MLRawviewer. These lines remain when imported to Resolve and even after being exported. The strange thing is that I accidentally opened the same file, which I had as a backup, in another folder and that file copy did not show any pink strand or line and is clear!

How this occurs? How can it be solved? Is this because of the viewer? or repetitive playing of footage or many footage (because i use it for serious video purpose, i see rushes of 100s of footage a day)? I am currently solving the pink line problem using photoshop (by removing the pink cdng picture and replacing with adjacent cdng pic). Now i understand the problem is not in the making. Something is wrong with processing or software or player.... I am using april 2014 build ML, MLrawviewer1.2.3 and raw2cdng 1.6.1. Below are the two pics at the same frame of same file from different folders, showing pink and nopink line. Pls help me to solve this problem. Thank you.

Raw Video / CF card validity for ML
August 19, 2014, 08:25:17 PM
Hi.. I am using ML 5d3 raw for serious video purposes. I have shot over 10TB to 12TB footage. Of late, I have facing problems like pink strands and black frames etc.,. I just wanted to know if my three Lexar 1000X 64GB cards read with Lexar Professional USB3.0 reader got overused. Should i change the cards? thanks

Hi.. I can see pink lines flashing then and there in .mlv footage shot with 5d mark III, July build of magic lantern. Please help me fix this problem for the already shot videos. The lines show up in many footage..

All the footage are important because of its video purpose. How can I also prevent anything like this? Thanks

hi.. sometimes my footage does not play in MLRawViewer, the screen is fully black, I thought its a mistake and proceeded to convert the .raw to cdngs. The converter shows "0 FPS" and crashes. The footage is 1.5 to 2gb in size. Is that footage a shooting mistake? i don't think so bcos other footage are good. Am I wrong at something? Why would that happen? (the take I okay-ed is unfortunately showing this error  :-[)

hi, i have been shooting for over a month using 5d3 .RAW (latest 113 build). The file names look M(date)-HourMinute... from my understanding. Yesterday, the last file's name was M14-0504. My doubt is there will be another file with same name while I shot last month 14th, exact time. I do resolve-premiere roundtrip and file naming is extremely important. Will this not be a problem or someone find me a solution?? heard somewhere that renaming file to our convenience could make roundtrip worse. Thanks

friends, i shot some footage with ML (feb 14 update, nightly build) 5d mk III. I set the frame rate to 23.976 while shooting and it shows so in the raw2cdng software correctly. In resolve10, it shows 24fps and even after changing the master project settings, the rendered out clips are 24fps. I also found this when i imported the clips to premiere pro cc 7.2.1. May be because of this change in frame rate, the rendered clips and clips inside premiere show grey lines on the top of some frames like below. Or might the setting of frame rate and aspect ratio be wrongly done while shooting? help me out... pls.. next week i have a commitment.. thanks.

Raw Video Postprocessing / Camera RAW to Resolve workflow
February 21, 2014, 02:27:15 AM
hi.. It is easy for me to adjust the DNG images with Adobe Camera Raw. However, for resolve/premiere roundtrip I had to use the saved .DNG images after correcting those in camera raw. Good thing is that I can rename it to convenience, while saving. Roundtrip (camera raw to .dng to resolve to premiere) was not difficult. I think adobe raw saves in .DNG format while Resolve requires Cinema DNG format in order to apply "BMD film" in color space and gamma. Also the sequences from adobe raw looks blurred in resolve. I don't know why. can this workflow be refined further?

hi, i am relatively new... read lots about the awesome magic lantern feature. Thanks to everyone. Yet to practically get into it. I would like to know how to do a comparison test between RAW and h.264 with 5d mark iii. Should i record both at the same time? (can i?) or Is removing magic lantern sd card and replacing with normal sd card would let me shoot the same footage in h.264... Is the second option feasible? any other methods? (sorry if the question is already asked, pls guide me). thanks.

Hi, I plan for an independent film with canon 5d3 and magic lantern RAW. For better flow, I wish to shoot at the cinemascope (2.4:1) mode approximately 1920 X 800. Will I have any problem while creating the digital cinema package for theatrical release? Any one dimension, either 2048 or 858 should be met for creating a DCP. In canon's cinemascope format, 1920X800, i could not meet both dimension. But DCP software could make it compatible. Any suggestions? I am a newbie, pardon my misunderstanding abt the subject. Thanks.
