General Help Q&A / 5d3 60P with MLV
January 27, 2014, 10:30:48 PM
Yesterday I was going to shoot some footage in 720p 60P but when I try to select 1280x720 in MLV settings the settings keep going to 1280x448 and says I have to stretch the video.  My card is definitely fast enough to do 1280x720 because I've done it before on an older build.  How do I make it go back to 1280x720?

Feature Requests / $300 offered to developer
November 11, 2013, 05:24:06 AM
I will pay the developer who provides a safe way to remove the 5D3 bootflag to the masses- $200 via paypal

My offer is until December 1st

Thanks

PS - I'm also offering a $100 to the developer who can break the 30min limit for non-raw video on the 5D3.. Can be movie restart but it must not drop frames between clips.  In camera audio recording during this would also be preferred if possible.

December 1st deadline as well.

UPDATE : I urge anyone who would like to add to my rewards to post their pledge here.  We all know that removing the bootflag has been a tough one, so lets make it worth their while! Dev, you will not release the files until you are paid up to ensure that everyone keeps their word on their pledge.  THANKS!

Has this ever been tried?  I know it will go out of focus and hunt, but can it be done without the exposure jumping?
Maybe limit the focus distance in the menu too to prevent the focus from tracking all the way back to near distance, kinda like the switch on the side of the 70-200 2.8 IS II.

Thanks

Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy a cam that I can always have on me when I'm not lugging the 5D around.  I was looking at the EOS M, but I don't like the fact that there's no viewfinder and the RAW video doesn't look very good at all either, so that didn't make me want it either.  I know we all love canon here, and it is CHEAP so that's a plus.  If anyone uses one and loves can you please share your thoughts.

What do you guys think about the Olympus OM-D E-M5?  From what I've been researching it looks pretty promising.  Then there's the FUJI X series cameras. But then I'd need to get Fuji lenses etc.

What do you guys recommend?  I want something pretty compact but feels like a real camera.  No sony type of menu where you have to spend a minute to change settings.

I really value the opinion of this board.

Thanks guys!

UPDATE: I tried the Canon G16 today and it seemed really nice, but I didn't give in to temptation and decided to sleep on this decision.  Anyone have a G16?

This subject is basically my question.  I've noticed that a lot of people have been getting great astro pictures with the other cameras, so why the 60DA?  Is there really something different about the sensor?  Could Magic Lantern make an "astronomy" mode that would emulate whatever their doing with the 60DA to our other cameras?

All I see is this "features a specially tailored infrared blocking filter" Couldn't we essentially screw this filter onto our lenses??

Have you noticed that after you install DaVinci Resolve that the Avid Core Audio Manager stops working?  I've restored OSX multiple times and tested my findings and found that the Core Audio Manager starts to crash immediately after installing DaVinci Resolve.

I found a thread on BMD Forums where a guy was having the same problem and discovered it was linked to "Postgresql."  This post was from 2012 and received no response from BMD.  I'm having this problem now too and it happens with the latest Resolve version 10 also.  This is really unfortunate because I want to use Resolve to work with my 5d3 RAW footage, but I don't want to give up my Avid Core Audio Manager.  For those who may not know, Avid Core Audio Manager is the application that allows you to use your audio interface for system and application audio when you're not running pro tools. For instance if I want to run Logic Pro and use my Avid interfaces for my I/O I will have to use the Avid Core Audio Manager to achieve that, but after installing Resolve 9 or 10...CRASH CRASH CRASH, nothing works.  Need to restore OSX to get back functionality.

Here's the link to the post where the guy had figured out what was causing the problem:
http://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=11533

If anyone has any idea of what we can do to fix this, let me know.  The poster of the thread I posted suggested that perhaps the "Postgresql" database could be updated, but I have no idea if this is possible.

The only solution I have come up with is to boot from a seperate HDD just for DaVinci Resolve, but this is really impractical and they should just fix their app IMO.  Unfortunately BMD isnt respond or acknowledging this issue.

Thanks

Hey everyone,

How do you enable sound recording?  I looked around and didn't see anything on it so I just wanted to ask.
I see you can start recording a .WAV from the ML menu list, but I was wondering if there was a way to trigger that recording
to start when you push record for video.  Or do you have to start recording and then start the video?

Just want to clarify how it works.

Thanks!

1920x720 Test (2.66:1)

Well, I was up all night researching and came to the conclusion that Hoodman Steel has the best card and warranty.  I took a drive over to their warehouse this morning and purchased it directly from them.  I also picked up the USB 3.0 reader.

All my other cards were 400x/533x so I was only able to shoot in 720.  But today after I popped this baby In I was filiming in 1920x1080 with no issues. The card seems solid, I had only one freeze all day and it was because I was using focus zoom and presed record.  It seems you have to get out of the 5x zoom assist before you hit record or it will freeze.  I will post some benchmarks if you guys want.
