General Help Q&A / Re: Micro SD Cards
April 04, 2024, 11:13:53 AM
Both cards are technically the same thing ,but the manufacturers know that professional users will choose the more stable SD version, thus ,same SanDisk extreme pro ,they made SD version 2 times the price of micro SD version.I have recorded so much videos with both cards,do had some contact issue with micro sd,but none for sd version.

Yesterday I did some tests with Extreme Pro and Extreme Plus R170/W90. They perform quite the same and allowed transfer rates above 70 MByte/s. Didn't test "anamorphic" modes, though.
Samsung PRO Plus R160/W120 performed well in benchmark but really sucks trying to record with overclocking and higher transfer rates.

You said you have problem with this card also, now you said I'm the only person?although ,your description is not detailed also.
I've already talked about this card in detail in other posts, you've also replied, now ,you ask for details again. Is this a AI account or what ?Fix your memory issue pls.and this is not the right thread to talk about sd cards,so ,I only share some short warnings to people.

I bought the card,so called benchmarks will work, speed is good, but in real shooting,it will stop in a few minutes of raw video recording. This so called Benchmark way of testing cards is misleading.

MOD intervention: User is giving incorrect information. I just tested my Samsung PRO Plus 256 GB (2021 edition, MB-SD256K) with Mood Crop 2023Aug19 build and recorded for 5:03 with manual stop. Recording size is 25,569.4 MByte resulting in 84.3 MByte/s. Benchmark is showing > 90 MByte/s in PLAY-PH mode (cam in photo mode).

I'll risk to grab a couple of Samsung pro plus 256, as an addition to my Sandisk128 Extreme Pro.
This Samsung card is not compatible with overclocking on eos m,don't buy it!

One stop brighter than the normal exposure on the display screen is the proper brightness of the real raw video.Enable histogram will take  more CPU usage, generate more heat, drain the battery faster, use spot meter instead.

Buy latest Sony, Canon, Panasonic etc cameras, for convince.
ML cameras ,My recommendation is eosm with 22mm f2.0 lens +a gimbal+ pull focus kit+3rd party battery kit+512GB SanDisk card

QuoteSo I basically bought a useless camera, LOL.  :D
My eos m can reach 61℃ when recording raw video in hot days, the sd card is even hotter, lol
The camera body is so hot,You wouldn't  want hold the camera for long.
Maybe the 700d is cooler?

MLVFS looks primitive compare to MLV APP.It's created in old times but few updates, the manual they provided is confusing,a lot of people having problems running on Windows 11 or 10.MLV APP is so slow in exporting something like pro res format, especially for higher resolution video,5k video exporting is so slow that it's not practical in normal usage.

It seems that this SanDisk card has no problem in EOS M/700D,but 5DM3

You want small camera for vacation ?Then all the cameras you mentioned is for making pro videos, not run and gun stuff. These are for movies, you need a lot of accessories to make it function well.Buy something like sony zv e10 instead .

General Help Q&A / Re: SD cards!

I have the same SanDisk mico sd card in use, change the access mode on overclocking module to sdr 50 with this card,it is perfect!

I would like to apologize for my previous viewpoint .
I should not say 14bit is better. In my test, using crop mood build,14 bit lossless has significant more burden on the camera and the sd card than 10 bit lossless. In some presets ,with higher resolution -fps,the recording will show yellow or red bar, even a recording stop with 14 bit,but 10 bit will have most of the time, green icon, which is good.

Instead of making a "out of the box, ready to be use by newbies" build, this build is likely to give users more freedom to make changes to suit various kinds of shootings.I applaud this idea. But I can't make changes to parameters of cinematography(like:resolution, fps, crop factor, etc) in this build ,it is still "presets" based. Why can't I have my own presets which I can define the resolution-fps-crop factor, etc I like?

Seems like nobody is using Kioxia card on ML,but this card is cheap on GB/dollar.If someone is using it pls share your experience with us.Is it compatible with SD overclocking ?

Seach the forum first ,you will find a lot of discussion about compatible sd cards.Buy SanDisk extreme pro, generally, they are compatible, but expensive.I bought a really cheap kingston card recently,it only compatible with the overclocking module by the settings of 160mhz.You can use most of the crop mood presets using this kingston ,but not as satisfied with SanDisk. But you know how cheap is this?256GB card only 117CNY or 16USD !

I'm here to report some minor issues I've encountered:
1,Horizontal lines on "1:1 presets 2.5k 10bit",no issue on 14 bit.

2,Frame order error.Won't get this error message everytime, but it pops up randomly.Seems like it will get this error more if  a slower speed sd card was in use.The footage recorded looks OK on MLV APP.

3,Is there anything you can do to make the temperature lower ?

4,When using FPS override ,chose "optimize for exact fps",the screen will go corrupt.I don't have picture to show this one,but it's easy for you to find this problem.

I was sharing my experience with different SD cards here.I quote my previous post so that people reading this post can have a full view of my experience.I want to collect some useful information about a certain brand of card ,didn't even ask anybody anything, just hope people can sharing their own experience with me as well.

About the Samsung card,I refer to this post:https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=12630.150
QuoteI've seen two posts in the past that people are talking about the "pro plus"compatibility issues,One post showed the same speed drop issue,a developer tried to fixed in sd uhs.mo,the user test the new modual, reported to be fix,but not in my case. The other post said this card (maybe he's talking about the sd version of pro plus) is good at benchmarking but very bad for long recording, that I think he's talking about the same issue as mine here.
I bought this card from the official Samsung store on taobao.com,so I didn't even think about the fakes or other quality issue of the card,so I don't even tested it on computer.I don't know there's anything I can mess with it and get it to work,so I just give up and return it to the store, they have "7 days  return with no reason policy".I'm gonna just buy the sandisk extreme pro 170MB/s 256GB which is a little bit expensive than the 512GB pro plus, but I don't want go into trouble again. :'(256GB is able to store over a hour of 1080p raw video,so it is enough for me but not "do whatever I want" capacity.

Then ,I bought the sandisk extreme pro mico sd 256,I put this post to report:https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=12630.175
Quoteyou can see ,I recorded a 48 minutes raw video, the file size is 133GB,that can say a lot about the stability of the card pairing with the current "crop moon "build.
After this post,I use the camera with confidence in real shootings, but it still gave me "stop recording"randomly.I was like :I recorded a 133GB long take with no issue, how can it be any other stability problem ?! Then after a few more hours of shootings and crashes,I changed the overclocking settings to sdr50,tested in 30+ Celsius degree of temperatures ,relative humidity about 70%,shooting different changing ,sharp ,bright ,complicated scenes;3x3 1080p 30fps 16:9,global draw turned off.It just won't give me a single crash! I notice when I was testing the camera under the sun,the camera showed the internal temperature reaching 60℃ ! After 20 minutes of continuous recording,I took the card out immediately,The card is so hot in my hand that I began to worried about being burned! The camera and the card still able to handle!

Rcently ,I have a kingston sd card on my radar,Only 350YUAN or 49USD,512GB,140GB/S read speed. If someone is using it ,pls share the experience with us.

This one was not working,I returned it.

Short answer: use 14bit lossless in crop mood firmware .
Why?1 Somebody already tested,14bit images looks better in shadow/noise area.2 Only small difference in terms of recording file size/bitrate.3No load difference on CPU usage.4No pink/corrupted frame for crop mood firmware no matter what.
If you chose the right recording cards,EOS M with crop mood firmware works just as stable and reliable as a normal pro-consumer video camera, chose any bits you like.

Samsung micro sd card won't work with overclocking on EOS M, it will give you 20MB/S recording limitation.
Sandisk 256g extreme ultra micro sd card works perfectly, but you have to set the overclocking mode to sdr50
I did extensive test to make this statem

This micro sd card was getting 20MB/S and recording halt randomly when using standard sdr105/240mhz overclocking, but yesterday,I find that sdr50/240mhz mode got a full card recording without any problem, just like recording with my old 128GB 95MB/s sd card in sdr105/240mhz mode does.
Tested in 30+ ℃ ambient temperature.3x3 1080p 16:9 30fps ,global draw all disabled to minimize CPU usage. Will test more in the future to make sure it is 100% reliable even in harsh environment .
Another conclusion is that SanDisk Mico sd and sd are equal for the use of ML cameras, both works the same, but micro sd version of extreme pro is about half the price of SD version.

Extremely low efficiency on time and storage, not practical
