Shoot Preparation / Video for 2.35 Output ?
August 22, 2015, 07:56:05 AM
Hi,

i like this cinematic crop and want to ask you how you prepare your shoot for this ratio.

I set the ratio in magic lantern to 1920 horizontal and 2.35:1 crop - thats my starting point

ML gives me a good preview with the 2.35:1 crop.

But when i start filming i always see the full liveview of my 5diii ... not the crop. can i disable that?

best michael

hi jackmoro, great video: like the colors, the story and the editing !!!

i´m also interessted in more detail which lut you use and if you do an extended color grading after assigning a lut ?

some clips seams filmed by handheld. which stabilizer you use in postproduction?

best regards, michael

but actually i´m desperate because i cannot load the cinelog cameraprofile in acr. i have donw all the steps with the right files coping into hd-libary-application support-adobe-cameraraw-cameraprofiles-camera-5diii

but i just see (9.1.1)

@andy thank you for your tipps... in this clip the sun directly shines into the sensor ... i wanted to do such test.
by the way:i will follow your recomendations with the gray card; thx

thank you so much for your great help; you can use the footage ...no problem.

i will have a try on another clip which i record at the same day... once more with the sun into the sensor ;-)

andy thank you so much for your detailed answer!

Hi,

can anyone tells me why i don´t see the correct cameraprofil in ACR after opening a cinemadng file
I have converted the mlv files (5diii) with rawmagic.

always tells me : camera profil = embedded

but i want to choose -5dii cinelog-

maybe this doesn´t matter because in aftereffects i can chaoose it as an input source ?

so i upload this footage after new converting it with the actual MagicRaw App to CinemaDNG

feel free to download the footage files ( maybe you wait some minutes as it is uploaded to dropbox)
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ao44r87dts46y0z/AAAE6Sw4v2Civ2hCpC4Nwqzka?dl=0

by the way i have done the workflow again with a great result:
- magicraw to cinemadng
- via bridge selecting the first cinemadng files form the footage and editing it in camera raw
- synchronizing all files and safe them as a tiff file as a sequenze
- open it in premiere and i got a first great result

but the workflow with davinci is much faster i think so ...

So, i actually convert the MLV Files via RAWMagic once more and let you know soon...
#20
thank you !

here is one dng file ...if you need more... contact me ; thx!

ps sorry but where can i find  @Andy600's Cinelog-C ;-)

these colors...  great film!

The first three pictures are Screenshots after importing the RAw Files into the programs

4th, 5th, and 6th are with a "fast" correction...
(ACR is only an example for me that there is information in the highlights)

With DaVinci i can easily get this information while in premiere this information is gone.
i don´t know a workflow to get this information. even with highlights shadow corrections or the lumicurce...see last screenshot

@ DeafEyeJedi
you are right but the clip in premiere after importing is completely blown out.... i have tried to manage it but no chance.

this workflow gives me great results ;-)  ( with higlight recovery button activated)

thanks i´ve tried this too but the picture in premiere also don´t look like when i´m opening it in acr (- all the controllers in zero position)
(by the way in acr i have this great lighting controller).
