Any special trick to get the "old 5d" to format the card? I've tried on multiple bodies, multiple computers both mac and PC but am getting nowhere!

General Help Q&A / Re: bricked CF card?

Thanks GutterPump. This is a SanDisk Extreme III 30mb/s 16GB. If anyone knows something I can try to do to save the data, that would be awesome (it was work for a client). If not, I guess formatting is my only option, though I'm not even sure how to go about doing that since the computer wont recognize it (I've tried on multiple machines) and the camera freezes on the error message until I take the battery out.

General Help Q&A / bricked CF card?
July 08, 2016, 09:22:46 PM
I was on a shoot and had to hastily grab a camera that was shooting time lapse with ML, I didn't shut it down properly, just turned off the camera. Now when I am trying to retrieve those images the CF card isn't recognized when inserted into the computer. If I put the card back into the camera I get an error message that says "card not formatted format card with this camera" but none of the buttons or menus seem to work.
Anyone have any experience with a similar situation?

I've been loving  auto ETTR  for shooting time lapses where I can't be near the camera to manually adjust exposure during the holy grail transitions. I am consistently having one problem though:
Instead of continuously slowing the shutter speed as the light fades, it toggles back and forth before settling in on the next slowest shutter speed. This creates a ton of keyframes in LR Timelapse which I then have to manually adjust. It seems to do this without much reason- no clouds passing shadows or object moving into frame to change exposure. Would boosting the 'highlight ignore' help ML stick with its decision?
There must be a way to set the AETTR so that it adjusts exposure less frequently, but in larger steps. (and in only one direction)
Thanks for any suggestions.

General Help Q&A / Re: ML randomly deleted from card

Yep, pretty weird. I have a 5d2, using the CF slot in the computer. It's a Dell running Windows 7 Pro.

Ok, I've been trying to get this to happen, and it just did. Here's how it went:
Installed ML, shot some images, downloaded them, put the card back in the camera and formatted it (keep ML). restarted the camera, and everything was good. ML was still there. I turned the camera off and made some coffee, I came back, turned it on, and no ML. I go to the firmware update in the Canon menu and theres no firmware on the card.
Put the card back in the computers CF reader, and the ML folder is there and within it a Settings folder that contains magic.cfg. But that's all.

Seems like it has to be something happening in camera, but I dunno :-\
I'd like to have  a stable ML for an upcoming shoot this week.  I don't have much time to test, can anyone point me to a recent build that is stable on the 5d2?

General Help Q&A / ML randomly deleted from card
August 29, 2014, 10:31:37 PM
Has anyone else had this problem?
After downloading images from the card (mine's a Lexar 1066x, 32G) when I reinsert the card into the camera, ML is sometimes missing. It doesnt happen everytime, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. When I put the card back into the PC, the ML folder is there, but it is empty. Very frustrating. I'm using july 28 '14 build.

@dmilligan Thank you very much!  It works. I've been testing it all day and I think this will be one of the most useful modules I've used. Still trying to figure some stuff out though...

I'm unclear about exactly what 'focus steps' are. Are these fixed units of distance, or are they relative to each lens' range? I hope I'm phrasing this right...
Does one step equal 1/5000th of a lens' range? This doesn't seem right, so why is the option for +/-5000?

I'd love to try this out, but cant seem to find the right combination of nightly build and adv_int.mo.
I get the "wrong version (v5.0, expected v6.0)" when loading.
Is v6.0 available?
Does anyone know of  a nightly that works with v5.0?

Thanks.

I may have spoke too soon...there are now issues with the syncing of the .wav and the video. I remember reading something about syncing audio that had to do with the fps of the video not matching the rate that the .wav was recorded, (?) of course I can't find any of those threads now...
I shot the video at 23.976 fps
used MLRAWViewer to create DNGs
Grade the DNG in LR and export Tiffs
I open the TIFF sequence in QuickTime Player 7 at 23.976fps and export the MOV.
when I open this MOV in Premier with the corresponding WAV file the audio is lagging by about 13 frames.

If anyone could point me to relevant threads (or point out the no doubt obvious mistake I'm making)...

Yep, I've had the sound module loaded, it seems you were right. I used MLRawViewer and now there is sound! Thanks for the help.

Thanks jimmyd30. I tried that to no avail. Maybe I'm missing something in my workflow...
I'm using mlv2dng to create the DNGs (is this outdated or incapable of separating out the WAV?)
I recently switched from raw2dng (I know, I'm way behind the curve) and noticed that instead of getting a frame count along with image dimensions ect within the dialog box, I now get an error message:
Exception! Header not recognized: 'STYL'
Exception! Header not recognized: 'WAVI'
Exception! Header not recognized:'AUDF'
then a whole string of the 'AUDF' error.

All the dngs are still generated just fine. But no wav. :-\

I am having trouble with sound recording on a 5d2-feb 16th build.
My settings are this:
FPS override OFF
MLV sound ON
In the Canon menu I've tried sound recording set to manual as well as disable.

I'm expecting to find a separate WAV file, but all I get is the MLV file and a mlv_rec.tmp
All the posts I've read about enabling sound seem to be working with different menu options than I have,
has anyone recorded sound with this build on a 5d2?
ANY suggestions appreciated.

Maybe this thread is dead, but...
I'm also having trouble with the digital dolly, it is activated in the ML menu but the joystick does nothing, (other than seems to work as a "back" button when pressed)
I'm using the Feb 16th build.
Anyone know if I am missing something obvious?
