Thanks Walter. I understand that the Canon firmware file isn't doing anything off the card. The reason I have left it on there is just as a backup in case I ever need to re-install the firmware on the camera. You say that I should take the file off this card - is there any harm leaving it on there? Is the reason you advise taking it off that there might be a conflict with the ML firmware?

get yourself a camera that has this feature or wait....
Will we ever see that full res silent pictures feature in the 5D3.123 build? I'm very interested in this feature as I have some time lapses coming up I need to shoot.

Thank you so much. When I copied the files from the 'bad' card via camera cable, the picture files are ok. The card reader I used seems to be the problem, though the other card I have, which is the same, works just fine with it.

I would try to format your CF card in PC and in camera.
For now - remove your SD card from the camera and play with CF card only.
One thing at time.

I tried another card. At first the pictures were corrupted too. But after downgrading and upgrading again, my SD card works somehow. My CF card doesn't though. I'm currently trying to format it with my pc, but I keep getting errors...

Before installing ml the card was fine. Is that a known problem?

So after uninstalling Magic lantern I downgraded to official canon firmware 1.1.3 testwise. After that all the raw problems were gone. I got normal raw photos, like they're supposed to be. Then I updated to official canon firmware 1.2.3 normally and the problems were present again. So that means I got raw photo problems on 1.2.3 after uninstalling ml but on 1.1.3 they're gone. I think, that something didn't get uninstalled properly. The problems are not present in 1.1.3 because they ly in some area, which got affected by the 1.2.3 update.

Anybody got a hint for me, which infos I could provide, to help me out here?

did you think about getting camcorder? ML is tricky and takes a lot of reading!

I'm hoping you good people would be kind enough to help me with an issue i'm having with my 5D MARK iii.

Ever since I got my camera I've been getting these terrible flickering on all my shots(after installing magic lantern) And I cannot figure out why. I first downgraded to 1.1.3, had flickering, then upgraded to 1.2.3 and still flickering occurs in my videos. PLEASE HELP, PPLLEEAASSEE!!

No I have not used a lower Res, I will do that immediately. If it is the card, is there a card that can do 1920? Or a way around it for the card that I have like maybe turning some of the other unnecessary options/settings off so the card can handle 1920?
I am using a 1066x 32GB UDMA 7 lexar professional CF
Max. Read Speed 160 MB/s
Max. Write Speed 155 MB/s


I don't understand, In the ML settings it says for 1920 you need a card that can record 82.9MB/s and this card obviously is capable of that or atleast thats what lexar/B&H states.

no guarantee. install it on your own risk. Nobody is gonna repair your camera.

I am really green here and I have a 5d m3. I am not a programmer or have any knowledge to do my own coding.  I see on the main page that the most recent stable build is now 2 years old and does not list m3 as compatible. My question is, should I wait for a stable build that lists the m3 or can I safely install the latest nightly build.  I realize that I make the final decision and accept all responsibility but would love some guidance.

I saw a post asking about the issue of not being able to completely uninstall.  What impact will this have if I take out the card and want to use the Canon firmware afterwards.

It's never 100% safe. install it at your own  risk.

I'm new to the world of MagicLantern and I found out that this is the latest version for the Mark III.
I've read that his was released around March, but can someone who is very knowledgeable about this version tell me: how is it going about now? It's pretty safe to install the latest nightly build? Or should I wait for some issues to be resolved?

Uninstallation:
1) Run Firmware Update from your ML card.
2) Follow the instructions -> for removing the boot flag please wait for 30 seconds.

I may have answered this myself. It works anyway.
I took out the ML card and replaced with another pre-formatted SD card.
Then I ran "Clear all camera settings on Canon Menu - Wrench #4.
Now ML is gone but I will not use the other ML card again until more progress is made on ML for 5D3.
I can power off/on and works like before.

I have it on my 60D and it works a lot better.
Hope this helps anyone else.

I use ML on my 60D for video but was hesitant to use it on my 5D3 because of the bootflag issue. I want to be able to remove the bootflag afterwards.
For video ML 1.1.3 is still recommended over ML 1.2.3. ML 1.1.3 sets the bootflag, however 1.2.3 can remove the bootflag.


Can i use the following workflow to be able to use ML Video and be able to remove the bootflag afterwards?



1) install ML 1.1.3 the normal way, which also sets the bootflag on the 5D3.

(bootflag is now set, slow start-up when not using ML)

2) do your thing.... film using ML  video capabilities

3) upgrade firmware to 1.2.3

4) install ML 1.2.3

5) remove ML

(bootflag is now removed, firmware is back to Canon original)


Is this correct? If not, what should i do to be able to get bootflag removed?

save money, sell you 6d and buy 5dIII (that's what I did) . Everybody knows 6d is not good for video. Want to spend less money - face limitations.


 

Nope, alex doesn't have got a 6d and doesn't want one. 1% seems to be still around somewhat, but doesn't update his TL repo anymore, I guess he now keeps his 6d patches to himself after the recent commotion.

There are some users who can code to some extent around, but no one seems to be willing or have time to volunteer as a 6d maintainer.... so I fear that once there will be some ML refactoring or other in-depth changes the 6d will be left in the dust. Alas, as you said, it's "usable" now so it could be worse.

Please read the post and try the ML on your 5dIII at your own risk  like everybody else here. If you freak out - use the factory setting or buy RED. Sorry about harsh words but this topic has been discussed a million times. Have some respect.

I'd like to verify how to upgrade from ML 1.1.3 to 1.2.3. I know it has been answered here and there on this forum but I'd like to confirm to avoid some problems. Thank you for understanding and patience (I'm just one of those guys who freak out sometimes... well, very often as a matter of fact).

My understanding is the following one:

1. Take out an SD card with ML 1.1.3. (at least I keep ML on an SD card)
2. Put a new SD card with Canon firmware 1.2.3 and do upgrade.
3. Format another SD card in camera.
4. Copy ML nightly build of your choice on the formatted card from 3.
5. Put the card in the camera and do ML upgrade.

Is this correct?

Also, once I do uninstall of ML 1.2.3 as Alex described in the first thread of this post it will leave camera without ML trace. Is this correct?

Hi,

Used ML for quite some time on my EOS-M and I fell in love with the video crop mode. Just installed the latest nightly build on my 5d3. All seems well, but I can't find crop mode. Camera is in video mode, I even tried loading raw_rec and mlv_raw, still no crop mode.

Searched the forums but I must have missed where this was addressed. Any help would be appreciated.

If you can't do it yourself you have to pay somebody who can.  I'm just curious why you tried 12 times if you saw it would not work after 2 or 3 attempts ?
Did you try another SF cards, did you check all the setting ?
You remind me one woman from the past, when she couldn't  get something to work she would try the same way again and again until she gets absolutely insane and slapped her husband on the face

Guys I really really need your help. I must be missing some vital step but I've been over the instal procedure at least a dozen times and my camera just won't read the files. her's what I've done. Format card, download ML files 1.2.3  Put files on card. Put card in camera. switched on camera. Then nothing. Went to firmware up date. pressed firmware update. camera says you'll need a memory card to update I press Ok then nothing. 12 times I've done this and still nothing. What should the ML files look like? I've gone to the link on this page and copied those files which says ML nightly. Are these ally he files I need cause sit doesn't look like it to me. Need your help. Some guy tried to charge me £120 for the privilege of installing Magic Lantern and I'm getting rather frazzled.

Hi Guys....great stuff going on with ML but i am wondering if there is a way to have the ML firmware on a single card that will work on both 5d mk 3 and mk 2?? Is it possible rather than having lots of expensive cards for each?

Hi everybody.

I've just installed ML on my 5D Mark III ( 1.2.3 ). Installation ok. One problem. When I record with mlv module, after starting the recording, the live view just freeze but the recording continue ( I can see the time goes on, number of frame etc... ) I have a CF card Sandisk extreme 32 go 800x... Anybody has a solution ?

Other questions : which is right now the more stable version of ML ( for 1.2.3 ) ?
And what are the better settings to optimize mlv recording ?
