Unfortuntely it does not support newer Sony cameras. I saw a guy opened an issue asking the dev to support my camera hehe.

It seems like the dev abandoned it in 2017.

I wish ML was imported to Sony so that I can use false colors, raw recording, 30p h.265 recording and use custom lut i copied to sd card to adjust exposure.

Arbitrary feature omissions despite the compatible and powerful hardware is the only thing driving me nuts in this industry and Sony keeps doing it & gets away with it.

It became so annoying lately.

Can you believe that all Sony mirrorless SLRs omit 30p framerate option from h.265 codec? The weird thing is they let you record in higher frame rates, so it is not a hardware limitation, but not 30p... So if you are NTSC user, all you can do is 24p and 60p. I checked every single Sony SLR that is capable of recording H.265 and the issue persist in all of them.

Like they don't want you to shoot with that codec on purpose. I checked all the internet and there is zero reason why Sony SLR can't do it, but they won't. There has been numerous firmware updates and this has never been adressed for years.

I wish I was a capable computer engineer like ML devs and extract&edit the firmware updates that come in as .DAT files just to add that single 30p option in the menu.

Dear devs, how's coding of 650D's audio chip going? Been 2+ years with 0 ML features about audio.

ML placed a big black box and some text on it while I was shooting an event with my cam. I found these files in my SD card. Devs might wanna take a look at them.

Nautilius Canon 650d records continuously and roughly 4gb file is 12 minutes as you continue to record the file will be just splitted in two with no obvious cut test it in your home conditions. The other thing I could suggest you, record on external audio recorder as this is important to have all the speech and even if the 650d stops or makes a jump as jumping from one4gb file to another you can hide it with another shot on the jump itself.

Thanks mate, worked wonderfully. Though I need a permanent solution which is a dedicated camcorder. Is there anything you can suggest that is close to a DSLR in terms of low light capabilities. Because most of the time conference rooms are dim lit (due to slide shows).

I need to use my 650D to shoot a speech. My client bought me a 70-300mm lens, a battery grip and several batteries. So I can shoot a 1 and half hour speech. Then there's FAT32 4GB filesize limit I need to overcome. Magic Lantern's Movie Recording Auto-Restart feature is out of question since it skips a few seconds.

I read here that Tragic Lantern can run on exFat formatted SD cards which has no 4GB filesize limit. Is there a guide on how to do that and how can I convert my 650D from Magic Lantern to Tragic Lantern?

Also what about 30 min record time limit? Will Tragic Lantern remove that as well?

The only reason why I have not buy the Canon 70D yet is because Magic Lantern is not available for that model, Have being using ML since 4 years ago.
The 650D version is so reliable that I use it for commercial work, Not MLV or RAW because increasing bit rate works for me, and is a faster workflow

Interesting. Because i did not notice any difference by increasing the bitrate from 1.0 to 3.0x. It is still an 8 bit, baked image with limited color correction possibilities to me.

The 650D gives 720p continuous RAW

...that has no audio, full of pink dots and limited for a minute or so. It's hardly practical.

Hundred years for this topic and still alpha version...i lost hope for this. Looked like it was pretty much beta stage but authors still uses alpha word... looks like we can forget ML for eos 650d

This pretty much sums up my thoughts.

Either get a 550D for great ML features or sell your 650D and lenses all together and buy a GH4 instead. Comes with 99% of all ML features. Zebras, focus peaking, audio monitoring, bitrate control etc etc...

550D can write only 20mb/s. i started with 550D and switch to 650D as 650D can write 40mb/s but i am so disappointed how magic lantern works on 650D.

At least it has audio monitoring, which is a blessing in street interviews, which I regularly do.

Stepping down to 550D because of audio issues sounds (sic!) like a bad idea.

You are right. Perhaps I should keep this 650D and get a used 550D at a bargain price, solely to be used in street interviews.

I suppose you might prefer to use an external recorder instead.

Seems like a neat idea but I purchased some extra accessories for audio monitoring on Canon cameras (SESCOM A/V to 3.5mm jack cable and Fiio headphone amplifier) a while ago and I'd like to put them to a good use.

So after waiting one and a half year after my purchase of 650D, i can't see any reasonable progress towards coding its audio chip (which is also used in 700D, EOSM ETC..) . So I decided to switch to an inferior camera, the 550D for its audio features in Magic Lantern (mainly for the audio monitoring).

While I do that, I'm also planning to give RAW recording a shot. 650D has been a very problematic camera for me. It adds pink dots to the raw footage (which can be removed but requires extra steps) and it has no audio monitoring available which I need desperately.

Any info on 550D raw recording performance and resolution? I remember that 650D's SD controller can write 38MB/s maximum, I believe it differs for the 550D.

Is there a link where I can see the progress on audio chip being coded? It's been a long time since i last checked it.

The XLR side of this cable is very flimsy and low quality so it quickly disconnects. Anyway... The moment i noticed my interviews gone, i wished I had the headphone monitoring enabled on my camera so that I could intervene immediately.

A friend of mine is an indie moviemaker and he's gonna shoot a short in a few months. He called me to work in his set as sound editor & foleys etc... I don't have much experience in this field but he trusts me and says it doesn't require master knowledge (at least not for his project). He asks me to read the script and write down which sound is required where and then record it.

(Dialogue is not a part of my job, they have a sound guy for dialogue recording, but the rest is on my shoulders.)

Now i need to study a bit about sound editing in general and how to record foley sounds. Do you happen to know nice guides for beginners?
He also asked me to write whatever equipment i need for the job and he'll supply it. I was immediately thinking Zoom H4N, would it suit to this kind of project? What else do you think i'll need for this job? Rode VideoMic Stereo?

(BTW i have Rode VideoMic Pro, Rode Micro boom pole and 3meters rode vc-1 stereo extension cables in my gear arsenal. Am I going to be needing these?)

I have been watching tons of RAW videos on Vimeo and Youtube for months and whenever I see a video in H.264 now it irritates me!   H.264 suddenly looks like crap, too soft and even 'old fashioned' compared to the magic of 14-bit RAW.

Am I the only one who prefers watching RAW videos and gets 'annoyed' by H.264?

Is it possible for you to integrate a pink dot removing feature? I love the fact that cdng files can be directly imported into premiere pro thus simplifying the workflow. But i can't benefit from that because my 650D procuses raw footage with pink dots so i have to use g3gg0's raw2dng to convert from raw to dng and then import into AE and then into premiere... That takes too long and some quality lost in the process.

In this thread: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5404.0 g3gg0 released a raw2dng executable that does chroma smoothing which removes pink dots as well.

ok yeah I clicked on it and it's a whole lot of stuff I don't know about aha but this is good right this is what we've needed? Coding the audio chip can get us real meters and monitoring and stuff like that? I'm not asking for it I'm just wondering if all this code is what was needed to possibly bring these things

Correct me if i am wrong but i think this will bring us headphone monitoring, wav recording, mlv sound recording and all other audio features avaliable for other cameras.

if the modellID is set accordingly, you've got the same profiles for the dng's in ACR (look on tab profiles). And DNG's (raw) are linear coded, whereas h.264 had to be coded with some nonlinear gamma. thats no disadvantage, but just lack of knowledge..

I assume DNGs don't contain modelID. Because ACR shows a different footage than h.264. How do I add modelID to dng files?

Samsung Galaxy S5 has just came out and it is equipped with an arm based quad core CPU running at 2.5Ghz frequency. If such powerful processors in very little power envelope can be implemented in small devices such as cell phones and tablets then our DSLR cameras can surely can benefit from them.

I don't think computing power of H.265 encoding will be much of an issue after this point. We hear incredible powerful processors coming out rapidly as well as GPUs. NVIDIA Tegra K1 for instance. It has 192 CUDA cores, supports DX11 and the latest technology yet consumes very little power.
