Graded in After Effects with mostly just using Colorista and a bit of Looks too (for a little wide angle distortion and grain).

Hey all! Shot this little short with the 5d mark III + Magic Lantern RAW. A few shots from the Sony a7sii and rx10ii might also have made the final cut.

Best part about the 5d was that I could bring it in my luggage easily. Worst part was trying to check focus in the sunlight.

I recently did just this. I shot with the Canon 5d mark III on RAW as a b-cam and had it intercut with the main shooting unit where they used the Red Epic. Haven't seen the edit yet but I've heard really positive things about my b-cam footage.

A couple of things that are better with the 5d raw:

+ Lowlight
+ "the look" (this includes color and full frame look)
+ small size (I can get a shot from any angle, anywhere)

Hey guys, shot this little scifi short film in 2014 with the Canon 5d mark III and raw video. Loved the raw image quality, it is seriously bonkers. Sorry for some of the finnish accents. ;)

Hey, sorry it took me a while to answer! This was a personal project so I might've put in something like... 600-1000 euros maybe. Most of that went into little things like gas, music, sfx, clothing. Everything else was free, locations were free, actors were free, time was free. Did it in our freetime :) We had done some previous projects with Jessica and Jesse (we have a small stunt community here) so the fights weren't done with beginners but we did have experience in them.

Jessica and Jesse trained for about three/four evenings for the end fight. Most of the other stuff (knifings) were almost done on the spot. We had some actor changes etc happening so fast and there was really no time to train people that much so we picked people who could be quickly trained.  Pre-production was maybe hmm... I have no idea. I wrote the script, showed it to Jessica. She told me :"this is shit!" but we went and did it anyway. From the script we cut out one flashback scene that would've actually tied up the story better but I felt it was extraneous. I needed some producing help but in the end I guess I produced it mostly by myself. Jesse and Anton provided most help there. Hate producing.

The sword fight was shot with the Ronin M (5d mark III shooting RAW there) so that's why the movements are pretty good looking. We faked the car lights with two small and cheap led panels (only had one car for that scene and only for one hour so we shot the fight scene separately to that. The hand falling on the ground was shot when we had the car.)

Shooting days maybe 4-5 but they were mostly very short. Longest night was probably five or six hours, shortest was two or three. The entire house flashback was done in three hours.

Also has a couple of different cameras shooting beside the 5d raw, the a7s, a7s ii, rx10 ii.. maybe a shot with the a7r ii but didn't use them much. RX10 ii provided most of the 250fps slowmos's.

This short was shot mostly with the 5d mark III RAW. Magic lantern has done excellent work! We also used some sony cams as b-cams like the a7s and rx10 ii (which shot most of the slowmo stuff) but I loved the image of the 5d raw the most!

warning, it does contain violence and blood. Youtube and Vimeo links:

I'm actually having completely different thoughts on the A7s vs 5d RAW. 5d RAW as an image is way better. Considerably. A7s pulls out in very lowlight and maybe 4k (if someone can record that stuff out without the little HDMI port braking) but the 5d RAW colors is just amazeballs. Amazeballs. I will be using A7s for quick turnarounds but everything that I want to look really great will be now done with the 5d III RAW.

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: Premiere pro 8.0 native support?

But what really Pisses my Off is there No external Monitoring for grading or simple to view your edit on a color corrected Monitor .
Connected my Blackmagic Ultra Studio SDI USB 3.0 , on the HDMI side and it's not supported  >:( but in A.E. It Is ! make not sense .
Just about every NLE dose that I have came a cross, I have no desire to use Speed Grade , and unless you have a nVidia Quadro SDI card you card not
externally Monitor. So it seem we all are waiting for Resolve 11, as it dose not have these limitations imposed on it like adobe.

Though Resolve CANNOT output to a second monitor, only through Blackmagic hardware, Speedgrade CAN output to a second monitor.

Hey guys. This wouldn't have been possible without the Magic Lantern RAW- hack. Hope you guys enjoy.

Please watch in fullscreen and in HD :)

Mostly shot very low light with only a couple of little leds.

Remember guys that if you don't change the color output in AE to Trillions of colors, it will still render in 8 bits (inside a 10 bit file). It's not enough to change the codec to 10bits and make sure the project is 16. The output setting has to be Trillions instead of Millions.

I wonder how many people have actually been rendering 8-bit all along thinking it was 10-bit and never noticing any problems.

Thanks guys! Wouldn't be able to do these without magic lantern! Next time: With Dual-ISO!

Pretty much as titled. Had to eliminate one dead pixel in AE (doesn't show up in h264 but does in raw).

For some reason the 28th build is occasionally crashing with manual lenses (lenses with no electronic contacts). Has anyone experienced this with the newer builds? Also is there a raw2dng converter that can take out bad pixels (I have one on my 5dmkIII) like Marekk compiled for the 60d?
