Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon 50D

If you read the instructions carefuly and do what they say, you wont brick your camera.
I like VisionLog. It's a very good tool in my opinion. It's made by professionals -Cinelog too  :) - and it's free. In my opinion it does the job very well done.
Cinestyle is only for h.264 clips; if you apply one of those profiles the camera will show it to you onscreen but they never apply for raw pictures or raw clips. What you have to do is get a Cinestyle LUT or similar and install it in your editing o color correction program. Search for VisionLog, Cinelog, they were created for ML raw clips

How do I change the resolution??

In the video tab, go to RAW video. Options with SET button are on or off
Pressing the joystick, you'll find a submenu where you can cahnge resolution

@Itias: What is the advantage of shooting MLV over RAW.rec on the 50D? My understanding was that the big advantage of MLV.rec is that it can record sound, which the 50D can't do anyway...

The card speed improves a lot, at least in my case. I have two 60MB/s cards, and the recording times have improved since I installed the MLV module

Also, the MLV format brings all the metadata which is important for ACR

the 50D doesn't have audio. It's a photo camera modified, and the hardware doesn't have the necessary stuff to do that. Youll need to record audio externally

The 50D tends to overheat after some minutes of recording, after that if you're recording in h.264 the frame rate will reduce automatically

the 50D in raw recording in non crop mode will record at 1568x882 and it has the same field of view that any lens on a aps-c camera

the crop mode is 2.4x aprox and my 17-85 in the wide end (17mm) would look like a 50mm lens field of view. In crop mode it can shoot 1920x1080

did you try formatting the camera? A message will appear: "keep magic lantern?"

Made with Canon 50D, raw video, using a 17-85 EFS lens. Some shots are 3x crops, giving a very nice telephoto shots. Near Ferrol in Galicia, Spain

I don't have a 5D. maybe someone with more experience using wide angle lenses for crop mode would help you. I use the 3x crop for tele shots, and it's a very good feature

it's not 5x, it's more like 3x. The 50D doesn't show the whole recording area in this mode. Besides, the recording area isn't centered, unlike the other cameras
Hi, I tested the 1.3.3 version and regarding the problems I had before:
The batch conversion works really well and the weird motion is gone
My prores files from MLRV had very strange colours on some zones of the images and now it's only present on two videos, the color is different (present in blues and greens), before it was red, now it's pink

Below there is a jpg export from the dng's

¿could it be something related to my computer? MBpro mid 2009 Mountain Lion, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

the batch conversion is doing some weird stuff on my vids:

apart from the funky motion, this is a clip untouched from the conversion. What it means its that the program is joining in one clip the end of one clip and the beginning of the next. There are also those strange colors that sometimes are red dots all over the place
There is another issue with the cdng in Adobe Lightroom:

I exported a dng sequence with Son Of Batch. In Lightroom there is an option to choose the camera profile and the VisionLog option works ok with the dng's created with Son of Batch

When I load in Lightroom the cdng's created by MLRV, the program doesn't let you choose the VisionLog option in the Camera Profile (in the Camera Calibration Panel). There is only the option "embedded"
Camera raw doesn't recognize the dng's, I'm working in After Effects CS5, Camera Raw  6.0

"Photoshop File Format error 30505"

Lightroom 4 shows them beautifully
That's happening also to me... the .mov videos have that strange motion.

I'm working on a 2009 macbook pro with Mountain Lion installed, last program version 1.3.2.
From 15 clips there is one (1.3 gb size .raw -son of batch program exports fine-) that doesn't show in the program interface, only a black screen without any controls...

the others look ok but when I make a batch export the program generates empty folders or with one or two dng's

edit: now after restarting MLRV, the program is generating all the dng's. The behavior creating empty foldres occurred after a .mov batch conversion

Beautiful program, thanks a lot

I override it to 23.976 and exact. Is there some limitation on fps override in crop mode? I googled and find people saying in crop mode I shouldn't be using exact. I tried the low jello and 180d option, it gives me 44s of 1920X1080 video in crop mode (Lexar 64GB, 1066X). I did it again and find out it stops when it starts the 2nd file span. So the first file is 4GB and the next 3xxMB and stops. I think may be it's just the card is too slow. Is it?
Many thanks!

Edit: I followed this blog: , which in itself is following by a suggestion in MagicLantern, to format the card in a specific way. I can now get about 2 MB/s more. But sustainable 1920X1080 is still not possible. After the first spanned files it stops at 65s (in using the low jello option). But I can get sustainable video in crop at 1920 width with 1.85:1 aspect ratio with 23.976fps and low jello. This allows me to record until card full.

Unfortunately I have no experience with fast cards. I use two 400x Sandisk Extreme cards, that work fine for what I want (also no money for more cards :P )

Hey, my bad. I was not writing clearly enough.

I am able to take 1920X1080 movie, but it can only sustain for at most about 20s in different ways I tried. Both RAW_REC and MLV_REC, and also all the buffer methods.
I am thinking if the card is too slow. Since I heard reports saying 1050x actually is faster than 1066x as far as Canon 5D Mark III is concerned. And I think I heard people can get 1920X1080 from 1000x, I might be wrong though.

fps override?

Are you in 3x crop mode? that's the only way to get 1920x1080
If your videos are changing it's size maybe the size of the AE composition is bigger than your video frame size? go to the menu composition and change the size and aspect ratio command+k ---- control+k

Also if you compare the noise of the 400 iso 50d raw vs the 600d's 1600 in h.264, your not comparing the same kind of image. H.264 is mud compared to raw footage
