Dear ALL, the Canon 7D firmware v2.0.5 has been issued long time ago. I think it is time for Magic Lantern to issue an usable upgrade for Canon 7D. We are a lot to wait good news! Thank you.
(PS: unfortunately, I cannot help since I have no idea how the actual Magic Lantern can be updated to run on 7D v2.0.5)

Reply to Ledokol2014, its post dated 21.March 2014. I did not solve the issue. I still have 2.0.3 firmware on Canon 7D. With this Firmware, MagicLantern do good job. With 2.0.5, no. In my opinion, this means: 2.0.3 with MagicLantern or 2.0.5 without ML! Regards, Eugene

Canon 7D / No beep and focus confirmation light for P, Tv, Av modes

Hi ALL

As already written I updated my Canon 7D to the new Firmware 2.0.5. Magic Lantern did not worked. I re-installed the Firmware 2.0.4 as well as Magic Lantern. OK.

Now, I have a problem using P, Tv, Av modes: by pressing the shutter button it is not more possible to hear the focus beep confirmation and the focus confirmation light (green point), right in Viewfinder, will be not shown! In the viewfinder, left, next to the battery indicator, the green STAR (AE-Look) is shown. If the AF-ON button will be pressed, the beep sounds. The confirmation light will be shown, but only if the button will be kept pressed. This situation is observed with or without Magic Lantern in function. In the automatic mode, no problem!
My question would be: could be possible that ML caused this issue?

Thank you. Best Regards, Eugene

Hi ALL

I am sorry, I did not check this thread before....I also post a comment about the Magic Lantern on Canon 7D with firmware 2.0.5, see below.

I did first the update 2.0.3 to 2.0.5. After update, I tried to re-install my Magic Lantern. As usually, first on the Compact Flash card (CF) and after this, to start a fictive update again. Also, according to normal procedure. The problem was that as soon as I pressed the button "OK" (for fictive new firmware, in order to start Magic Lantern), the screen become black for ever! Nothing happened. This, two times. After that, I realize that the Magic Lantern for Canon 7D, clearly indicate as been valid only for firmware 2.0.3 since the name of the file is "eos7d-v203-win"! I was never prompted to back-update to 2.0.3! However, since the Canon 7D did not more worked, I must back-update, what, fortunately, was possible! This is a very important point since there are a lot of software which CANNOT be back-updated! In this moment I have 2.0.3 and ML works fine. Now, I would be very glad if somebody from Magic Lantern could inform the Canon 7D users if ML intends to issue a version for 2.0.5 firmware?

Hi, today I updated my Canon 7D to the new firmware 2.0.5. Unfortunately, Magic Lantern could not more be used since the actual version (magiclantern_7D_203_Alpha2) was issued specifically for 7D firmware 2.0.3! My question: do you think a new version of the Magic Lantern could be soon available also for the new firmware 2.0.5 of Canon 7D? Best Regardas, Eugene

General Help Q&A / Formatting cards (Canon 7D)
July 02, 2013, 05:32:30 PM
Dear ALL

According to ML instructions in chapter ,,Best Practice" (http://www.magiclantern.fm/bestpractices) the following Tip has been given:

,,We strongly recommend you to format the card before every important shooting session! This helps maintaining performance when recording files, and prevents the files system from becoming fragmented."....

Later on, the following: "Tip: to format the card and remove Magic Lantern, go to the Canon Menu / Format screen and press the shortcut key indicated in brackets, as in the screenshot - on most cameras it's the [Q] button".

This instruction is not clear for me since, on the photo next to the text, is written: ,,Format card, keep Magic Lantern [Q] All data will be lost".

According to this sentence, I understand the following: by pressing ,,Q", the LN will be KEPT and all others data will be lost. But in your mentioned sentence if we press the Q button, the card will be formatted and ML removed! I think there is a contradiction?!

Additionally, if you move the mouse cursor on the pic, this will show another image ,,Format card, keep Magic Lantern [Phototy] All data will be lost".

I confess, myself I don't understand the information / photo given. In my personal opinion, and thinking also to other ,,not English" speaking peoples, perhaps this text should be a little modified to be absolutely clear?

Best Regards, Eugene

PS: it seems I am not alone with this issue. One year ago the following has been asked, see ( http://vimeo.com/groups/magiclantern/forum/topic:250441 ). However, no correction in the above ,,Best Practice"

Dear ALL

First of all, I thank to the people from ML for this very interesting software (non yet tested, because of the issue below).

I already installed the ML for my Canon 7D. Indeed it works. But...I turned the camera OFF. As soon as I turned the camera ON and pressed the DELETE button to again open ML menu, nothing happens. Now, in the topic ""Magic Lantern for 7D alpha 2"" is mentioned that "" You have to reload Magic Lantern every time you use it. (This is intentional)"".

Therefore, my questions are:

1) If the camera will be turned OFF, the ML should be installed again (from the CF-Card) when the camera will be again ON?
2) If so, this means that the software is installed ONLY on the CF-Card? The camera software (2.0.3) will be not affected?
3) If so (again), it is possible to use the CF-Card (photos, movies) with the same card?
4) If the card will be exchanged, must ML installed again on the next one?

Thank you ALL for an answer.

Best Regards, Eugene
