Is it me or the Canon standard looks better in the video example ?  :o

Also I don't think it's a good example overall because there are no details in the sky to speak of - so underexposing brings nothing to the table but making it less white, at least that's what I think.

Would it work on a constant value (without changing/adjusting)?
Also any tips on what type/brand should I get?

I will potentially look into the nightbuild, but later - right now, I don't think I know enough about the camera and especially ML to get into the nightbuild :)

By this I mean whether it is possible to somehow have properly exposed frames, when dealing with changing lightning?
Also if I want to go at about 1fps - what can be done to darken the scene except setting the aperture to max value (f22) and overriding the ISO to 25?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

General Help Q&A / Re: My camera locked up today T3i/600D
November 30, 2012, 01:24:23 PM
Well I was at 1 fps, ISO 100, f22 (the largest my kit lens allows at 18mm), I don't even remember whether I starter to record or just saw that it is too bright (went to the PC to see how to reduce the ISO below 100) and shut down the camera.
Tried to do the same now but nothing happened.
Every other setting in the FPS override menu are the default, all my ML is at default current (except the power saving settings).

Tried to replicate it to the best of my abilities just now - nothing unusual happened.

General Help Q&A / My camera locked up today T3i/600D
November 30, 2012, 12:41:17 PM
First of all - I'm not saying it's because of ML at all, I'm posting this because somebody may know what it happened.
I have T3i (600d), Sandisk 32gb at 45mb/s, Canon firmware 1.0.2, ML 2.3, Canon stock battery (whatever came in the box).
I was playing with the FPS override, recorded about 40min earlier today, I've started another one but the settings were not good so I decided not to do it.
I turned off the camera but the little LED was blinking, I tried to turn it on but it didn't work, off - on didn't work (I double checked), removed the card - nothing, then I removed the battery and it  booted (with the battery inserted again lol).
Does anyone know why it happened, I got the camera 2 weeks ago, so I'm sure there are more than a few things I don't understand and may be doing wrong.

General Chat / Re: D600 or 6D?
November 29, 2012, 03:17:07 PM
If you have the cash then I would go Nikon - they have a little bit better image quality in my opinion and it's good to have variety.
That being said if you own 600d with ML on it - what can 6D bring to the table except a full sensor maybe?
Apart from that you will need high end lenses to enjoy higher end cameras - so my guess is you will have to invest in a lens or two for either model...
Remember that you won't be able to use your EF-S lenses with a full sensor camera (I imagine you have at least one).

General Help Q&A / Re: External Monitor too bright

Bad quality monitor?
My laptop has a bad monitor as well - images/videos look completely different!

Could you (anyone) translate what are the cons and pros of each as shown in the video?

I've just got a Sandisk 32GB 45mb/s card - I tried the video mode, pushed it 3x without sound, was still working fine.
Will let you know if I have similar issues.
I've formatted the card first thing though.

General Help Q&A / Re: ML override in the ViewFinder?
November 28, 2012, 03:39:39 PM
What I'm trying to do is to use primarily Manual mode - I guess what I'm looking for is more fractions (third or half stops) in these two parameters.
So currently I can only go with the Canon's default on the ISO (100,200,400 etc) and the shutter speed.
Can I active it somehow or have I disabled it somehow?
I tried to use the LiveView shortcuts for the ISO (disp+ left/right) in the viewfinder but it didn't work lol

Edit:
If it matters in any way I'm using the Canon's 18-55 IS II kit lens

General Help Q&A / ML override in the ViewFinder?
November 28, 2012, 02:48:33 PM
I think I've read (about) it somewhere but can't seem to find it now...
Is it possible to use ML in the viewfinder in terms of overriding the shutter speed and the ISO?
If not - is it technically possible for a T3i (600D), meaning should I expect it in future releases?

Just tried it out and it works - thank you!
The idea of changing the trigger mode did not even cross my mind... need to sleep more!

General Help Q&A / M42 lenses with AF chip?
November 24, 2012, 06:37:45 AM
First of all:
Hello everybody,

I'm new here - new to the DSLR world as well (just bought a Canon T3i a week ago).
I don't have experience with cameras and shooting but I have a couple of years of experience freelancing in post-production, so the field is not entirely new to me.

Now to the question:
Does anybody have any experience using M42 lenses with ML?
Can you suggest should I get an adapter with AF chip and whether it will do any good with ML?
I have a Helios 44 and a Jupiter 135mm lenses, both are USSR made M42 old school lenses.
I have an ordinary adapter as well - both work but I do not get all the benefits of the DSLR or ML.
I guess the feature that I would like the most to be present is Magic Focus.
Just to clarify my level of noobness - I'm aware the AF is not Auto Focus and that mechanized features from the Canon kit lens would not be present in the M42 lenses :)
My understanding is that the camera will confirm that I'm in focus (just like using manual focus with the kit lens) - but will it work with ML?
Another issues is the color shift it is way colder than it looks in Live view - not entirely sure what to make of it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
