AS soon as I got my Canon, I was using Magic Lantern.. it just makes sense!  GREAT free software update for a decent camera.
However Canon lies about their HD and I felt very ripped off not getting real HD resolution.  GH4 4K is awesome - even the HD on it is way closer to HD than the Canon.

TC 004K will be another short to experiment with new camera, night shooting, new lights, car mount, crane, etc  gearing up to shoot feature length stuff, but need to write it first. 

I loved ML but just not on here much anymore.  But I'll post TC 004K here for kicks in a few months whenever I finish it.  Still shooting.  It's on a whole new level!

hahahaha I figured only computer techs get the irony of a DOS based "Ping Trace" on a flip phone. 

The restored edition was a tough call for me.  This entire project started as:  make an old 70s kung fu movie that LOOKS like it is old... but I really liked how the color was looking in a normal version and wanted that out there as well.  So, two releases - cuts down on view count, but I like the option of both.      AND I put a ton of work into the sound, which was then utterly destroyed for the aging effect.

Lenny, your input is VERY interesting to me.  I felt the phone texting part was way too long and almost cut it in half, removing some of the "character's relationship" part, but, because this is a silly, fun, pointless, go no where project, I thought, "Screw it" and left it in saving me a bunch of time.     Good to hear it works ok afterall.  A crowd of about 8 girls at the office watched if over lunch and they really liked the whole texting scene  -- something I never considered:  girls text ALL THE FREAKING TIME, so it seemed to play okay for them too.
I'm not much of a texter... so maybe that is why it felt too long to me?  oh well.  Thanks for the perspective!

I consider that an awesome compliment, thank you!  I LOVE the Zuckers, and Leslie Neilson stuff... so, maybe subconsciously I was aiming for that.  But I'm no comedian and am new to videos and stuff, so, yeah, the editing was not real tight, nor was the writing, lighting, filming, etc etc  hahahaha it was my 2nd production and I have a lot to learn.

thanks, drapeama!  I feel music videos are 100 times the work, with too little return of "fun".  I'm only doing this video stuff for fun, not commercial money, and this was just a planning nightmare on every level for me.   So, I was in, but now out of the "music video" thing.  Maybe if I made $50,000 doing it or something it would balance out.

ok cool.  is that because I don't have proper software?  I don't have AE or PS or anything, just the RAWanizer thingy to convert, then I just bring it in to Vegas.  I probably NEED After Effects and such to make it better right?

I SHOULD EMPHASIZE THIS IS ALL MY CAMERA'S FAULT (and my lack of experience)  NOT MAGIC LANTERN NOR THE RAW UPDATE.  T3i/600D are very limited... well, and my software is also

But,
I can't seem to get ANY better quality from my RAW, over normal HD, and usually worse.
- Latest Magic Lantern, Newest RAW thing installed 2 days ago
- Canon T3i w/ SANDISK EXTREME (10) 45MB/s 32GB SDHC mem card
- using the RAWanizer software to convert to either MP4 or Prores
- Sony Vegas Pro12 for checking, grading and screen shots
- big computer, lotsa ram, killer GFX card
- (I normally shoot using Technicolor Cinestyle color profile)

I tried many different resolutions, but mostly fixated on the highest one shootable for the best resolution, and it shoots about 1.5 seconds and stops - but that is expected.  There is a SLIGHTLY perceptable increase in colors, but it is nothing I couldn't get by correction/grading on HD footage.  BUT,
- the resolution is crap, obvious jaggies everywhere
- any clearer definition is blowing up the horrible MOIRE this camera already suffers
- any panning or motion is a complete waste
- shoot times almost worthless for resolution less than ideal
- viewfinder stops during shooting, sooooo can't really know where you are pointing or pulling a focus
- no audio (not really a big deal)

The upside of 14bit color is diminished by:  reduced resolution (jaggies), movement slew, detail-moire amplified, shorter shots, more conversion for editing, viewfinder stoppage, no audio....  is that about right?

Is there something I'm obviously doing wrong?  Anything obvious from the above details?  Am I using the wrong software or doing it wrong?

Maybe I expected too much from RAW - didn't really think it would work well on T3i to begin with, to be honest.
The videos I've seen posted online were fine, but didn't seems to be better in any way over normal graded video.  This camera was always great with video close ups and DOF, but start doing bigger wider, highly detailed shots like a row of trees and detail turns to mushy soup - and RAW was no different, maybe worse with the lowered resolutions.

(yes, the garage was shot on a different day, but Moire amplified anyway)

Is your friend's camera a 600d/T3i?
I just now put it on my T3i with no problems:  installed latest ML on newly camera-formatted card, placed the SIXTHIRTY stuff where it should go, and it is working fine.  I did NOT install the "Nightly" update thing.

you have a 600D so you can use my builds which set qp and go by buffer usage. record with separate wav too. i think the stereo part is fixed now. I have to check again how it syncs up.

visually its all the same till you try to post/grade it. 6d, 5d3, 600D, all the files look the same to me unless i lower quality on purpose

Thanks 1%.  I'm a newb here and don't understand what you mean by "Use My Builds"?  Is there a preset list or something?
I am definitely color grading everything, so if higher bit rate helps, I'm all over it.

So, is the GENERAL CONSENSUS that using 1.4x bitrate with audio is the way to go?  It adds SOMETHING, works with most cards?
I'd like to sqeak as much quality out of my T3i as possible.
And is 2x and 3x VISUALLY the same, but maybe the files are uselessly bigger in 3X?

Yes, I'm new here, finally signed up.  Used Magic Lantern on my T3i.  This is my second video - made to force me to learn Vegas editing.
