Raw Video / Re: slightly jumpy footage

I played with some more footage, and I think it is actually coming from the shadow/highlight from Premiere.  Strange...  Thanks for the replies.

"1:32": You mean outside viewed through window overexposed?

Sorry i wasn't specific...the cabinet/closet thing seems to be jumpy on the right hand side, and the wall on the right has it as well.

Raw Video / slightly jumpy footage
November 16, 2015, 06:51:37 PM
Hey there,
I posted this video in the "share your video" last week, but realized I should have posted here to ask my question.  At 1:32, you can pick up the video doing weird things.  There might be some minor before and after that as well.  Could this be moire?

Thanks.

Jed

Share Your Videos / Modern style home - 5D3 RAW

Hey everyone,

I shot this house a few days ago and this is only my second full RAW video where I felt comfortable enough to give something to a client.  However, I am noticing a little jumpiness at the 1:32 mark...any thought on this?  Maybe it is just moire and I just can't tell the difference.

MLV is ML's raw video format. http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=7122.0

Yes, I know this, but the dual-iso script that I used didn't have a feature that I know of to make adjustments when converting...  http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=13512.0

To answer both replies, I use dual ISO (not hdr), but not shooting raw that I knew of.  The files always output from the .MLV file in the cr2HDR script as a .mov file, but there wasn't an opportunity anywhere to go in and adjust the DNG...perhaps I missed something?

As far as the highlights, yes, it doesn't really matter in video (although I would like to have nothing clipping), and for what people hire me for, they aren't going to want to pay for additional interior lighting so I can get better views outside.

Thanks for the replies.

Hey there,
I have been doing interiors videos for about two years now, but only just recently decided to start shooting RAW instead of dual ISO.  For me, it is all about workflow, as I am always on a same day turn around time crunch.  So, what I do now is this:

Convert to DNG with Rawmagic (could use other program...not married to that)
Open all in Davinci 12 Lite - set all to BND.
On second monitor (this changed my workflow speed drastically), open a DNG from each folder and get white balance using white balance tool from ACR
Input those numbers into WB in Davinci
Export WB corrected .MOV and open in Premiere.
I have found a setting via Magic Bullet that I can make files look realistic, so copy a sharpen, noise, and magic bullet setting to all clips.
Export final video.

In the above workflow, the only thing that I am having to adjust each clip individually is the WB via ACR and Davinci...everything else is basically a batch.  Keep in mind that these videos are not super high end real estate videos and people aren't paying for that.  This is the only one I have done this way so far (http://tinyurl.com/3115Cornwall) and the interiors start around 45 second mark (I know it is a little jumpy on the pan of the exterior).  I realize that I probably need to brighten the whole video some...I am using a new iMac and the screen is amazingly bright compared to other screens (even my 2013 macbook pro).  If you are interested, here is one where I used dual iso video and not RAW...not on every scene, but many of the kitchen scenes, and it just looks a little muddy and I can never get the colors right.  http://tinyurl.com/12412AngelFalls

Any suggestions on something better (quicker)?  I liked the dual iso because it was a batch process to convert all of the files, but I was still having to adjust the colors in many of the scenes anyway.

Thanks.

It is the frame rate I think...I am fairly new to digital video (did Beta back in the late 90s in college).  I shoot at 29.97fps and with the dual ISO it goes to 14.99fps.  I can't really wrap my head around what to do to make is smooth.  I speed the footage up anywhere from 125% to 200%, but it doesn't seem natural...could just be me though.  Do you have a suggestion?  I did a quick video to show the differences...  200% would seem logical, but it moves faster than real life (but is smooth).

Just dawned on me...do I need to be shooting at 1/60?  I am usually at 1/30...

Also, I can't get the batch HDR to work.  It only does one file if I have multiple in the folder.

Processing on 2.7 i7 MBP.  16gb ram.

Love the program though - I can sense it will be advancing my work.  Thank you

General Help Q&A / Re: Real Estate Video Tours

Hey There...
I have the 7d and have only used it on RE shoots a few times...none of the fancy features though.  Wish I could help there.  I will tell you that I bought the 5dMKIII a few weeks ago, put on ML for 1.2.3 right out of the box, and have zero problems.  For me, the biggest bonus is the HDR video - it makes a world of difference if you aren't using lights.  It is a serious pain to process it, but the videos look so much better.  If you need something tested, I will be happy to fire up the 7d to see what I come up with.  Let me know.

Just got brand new MK III and same issue as I had above...would love to hear other results.

One difference is that the processing took forever, much longer (3x-4x) than the footage from the MK II...both set on 1080.

Brand new 5D MK III (literally just opened it), formatted Transcend 64gb 1000x exFat on computer.  Downloaded 1.2.3 ML compatible, and installed.  Easy as pie.  Not using SD card at all.  I am fairly new to ML so I can't really speak to how things are working, but no need for 10 minute youtube install videos.

Shot some RAW footage at the upper end of the settings and it seemed to work fine - only a few minutes though.  Will test it out more tomorrow.

In your settings, make sure in the "color" tab, check the "automatically match master timeline with media pool."  That worked for me anyway...

I also want to thank you for this script!  Yesterday, I took this test shot...got a lot of flickering with the dual ISO.  You can see it on the link.  Any thoughts?  Video was shot at 1/30th and 200/3200 dual iso.

As well, when I tried to do multiple videos for the batch process using kit_hdrvideo, I only got one rendered file...not a combined of all of the files I wanted rendered, but just the first one of the bunch.  The app took the time it seemed to render more, but they never showed up.

I ran it through Red Giant Denoiser II thinking that might help, but no dice.  Did another test...one shot at 1/30 and one at 1/125...no dice either.

Thanks!
