I had a thought, what if you set the recording mode of like HDR video where it takes 2 streams of video and meshes them together except the second one is on an offset to the right or left? Granted if you were taking 1080p footage you'd lose some video around the edges meaning you'd be forced to resize and use only 720p in your project from a 1080p video file.  Trim the video into 2 streams, put them side by side and maybe you could have 3D video.

Do you see where I'm getting at?

While I was out in Pagosa Springs, Colorado I had the honor to go on an insane backpacking trip through the San Juan mountain range and this was one of the many videos I had to record and edit. It's a backpacking program promo for a christian camp called Sonlight. Sonlightcamp.org

Magic Lantern's focus peaks and magic zoom were a huge help in filming this.

Trip data:

Number of miles I traveled in 3 days: 17 miles.
Camera equipment weight: 9 pounds.
Overall weight of my backpack: 44.5 pounds.
Equipment used: Canon Rebel t3i, my two zoom lenses that cover 18-250mm focal lengths, my LCD Viewfinder, my 6 batteries (all fully charged), a backup camera (fully charged), a GoPro, my tripod, and two 32gb sd cards.

On my website I made a post about my adventure during this trip and some tips and tricks that I've learned while on mountain adventures. You can view that here: http://ryanrakowski.com/2012/07/12/filming-tips-for-mountain-adventures/
