Where is the Canon 7D ML Alpha 2 Firmware download link for Mac please?

Please kindly read the first post. Or even the last two or three pages. You will find a link to a thread explaining in great detail how to install the latest beta.

Please carefully read that thread as there is information there on how to install on a Mac.

Or if you are lazy, click here:

** edit**
As a side note, i personally find it amusing how many people have clicked that link. Would you believe a hundred! lol.

So please put Trammel and Indy to the credits...

How could I miss this for so long!
Finally edited the first post. Added credits. Added an explination about the 7D 2.0.3 and 1.1.0 question, that was something i was unclear about myself and made sure to be extra clear the cam had to be 2.0.3 after I tried downgrading lol.
Also added in the FAQ links to the bootoff file somehow I neglected it earlier.
Linking to the guide how to do on a MAC and added thanks in first post for that. Woot!

What would be the advantage to staying on 1.1.0 instead of updating to the latest Canon FW before using ML?

Ok, first +1 to walter on using google translate AND your native language.  We don't want to discourage our international community from posting, we just want to be able to help you better!

As for the modules. I have listed links to the various threads working on different aspects of MagicLantern. If you read the first four posts you know that ML is very experimental right now on the 7D and things are constantly changing. This makes having a most recent list of modules nearly impossible to maintain as modules can be updated or changed dozens of times a day. Just because it was changed does not mean its better, and sometimes can negitively impact in unintended ways.

As to the video tutorial, I will not be making one. The steps are listed as simply and basically as I can make them. Sometimes the software has been updated causing bugs, usually its updated to give you the latest version of ML. I have backups of working and tested software in case an update breaks something. If you can't follow simple instructions and read the FAQ then a video will not help you.

Since its being asked a few times I will add "how to remove ML" to the FAQ.

Thanks for the continued support by everyone and your help in helping others. This is why were awesome!

I understand we have many people from many countries however it is impossible for me to assist you when you do not use proper english, paragraphs, or sentence structure.

Please re-read the first four posts in this thread.
The first post contains steps to installing ML that have worked for thousands of people.
The second post contains troubleshooting for common issues.
The fourth post (my third post) contains links to updates and where to get further information once ML is installed.

Yeah on ebay for like, $8 you can get an un-chipped battery that does not show the % remaining, and for like $12 you can get a chipped one that works like the OEM one. Only thing with these aftermarket batteries is they NEVER have the rated mAh. I got three, all listed as 1400mAh, i tested them at 600, 800, and 1000mAh. Tho for $8 im not complaining.

Less of a raw question and more of a general development question:

Has any progress been made on the video recording, especially the FPS override? and exposure overrides?  This sunday I was hoping to use these features on the 7D, im not asking for perfection or completely bug free or anything, but if the devs have anything that generally works I would greatly appreciate it.

Many thanks! Keep up the great work!

?!?!? If your camera don't recognize you battery's, even originals... how you going power up your camera to install ML or use your camera normaly to take pictures, video...??

The camera can still power on with ebay batteries, it just throws a warning that it does not detect the battery and asks if you want to use it. Everything works fine except the battery meter and if it dies halfway through something (saving a picture or taking a video) you lose that information.
#34
just as long as you dont run out of power as the camera is updating you should be fine.
#35
I appreciate the reply however I think you failed to read the post over. My problem isn't with the exposure so much as it is with me not wanting to increase my shutter count by several thousand. On my T2I I could have done this using the video tweaks however since I only have a 7D now I'm not sure how I can achieve this effect.

Thanks to ML for making this .FIR available for 7D. Just installed, doing some tests and noticed:

1. ML doesnt work when cam is wakend after power save(sleep) mode. ML need to be reInstalled. No auto load.

2. Magic Zoom, does'nt work with f.ring (tested with tamron 18-270mm), only half shuter works.

3. NO audio meters in normal L.View, (while in REC is OK).

4. No audio control, too much bg noise.

5. Hope for HDR video soon.. :)

Kindly read the first post in this thread. The big red letters, they are very hard to miss.
Magic zoom only worked intermittantly for me on the T2I. Considering this camera is in ALPHA its not something I am going to complain about. Features are added daily it seems, lots of people are working hard I'm not going to complain about features not working as they should before porting is finished. Its like telling builders that the elevator doesn't go to the top of the building when its still not finished being built.

Anyways, read the first post again, or if your lazy click here:

Howdy!

Firstly, thanks to everyone helping get the 7D on the map, LOVING what ML is doing to my camera!

I have a situation where I want to make a time lapse video of a fireworks display however I am not sure how I should proceed.

I COULD set my camera to, say, take a picture every second or so, as I would with normal time lapse videos however fireworks are kind of flash n gone so one second apart is, I think, too long. Perhaps two or three frames per second would be better. Problem is I'm taking about 2 second exposures and even on the "like crazy" setting (0 second delay) It still takes a second or two to process the picture and move to the next one.

I *COULD* set the image quality down and tape a rock or something on the shutter button and it would take pictures like mad, however that is going to be a HELL of a lot of actuations, I really dont want to torment my camera like that for an hour or so.

Now if I were on, say, a T2I i'd set the video mode and using FPS override however I dont yet believe that is available (although things are added weekly so perhaps I missed it?

Anyways, I'm kind of at a standstill, I dont know what I can do. If I could have it lock the mirror up and just suck the sensor data that would be optimal, no need to move the shutter up n down anyways, since im taking pics like mad. Modifying the video mode to slow down from 30fps to, say, 2-5, that would be ideal IF i can get the exposure right for fireworks.

As it stands I'm likely going to try to record the video on my G12 (it does pretty good in low light) and see what I can do just taking stills, but thats kind of boring.

Any support would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!

If you install the 7D alpha 2 (and not the 2.3) you will not have bootflags set (which is safer because if there is a problem and ML autoboots that can be difficult to fix)

Derp ment EOScard not EOSutility.

Paid $150 for the WFT but I gotta order a battery and charger on ebay or something.

I dont generally have issues with power drain so its not something I worry about regularly.
#40
If I were having firmware issues i'd try updating my firmware back to the legit Canon firmware and try again. If I can't do it through the camera i'd do it through EOSutility. If the current EOSutility doesnt work I'd try an older version.

Not much more I can suggest since I don't really know much about this. Hope you get it figured out mate.
#41
Well I picked up a WFT-E1A for REALLY cheap today, gotta track down some batteries and see if I can get er working on the 7D, but I digress.

As to my previous question about silent pictures... im finding that the current EOS utility is pulling an older version of ML that does not have silent picture enabled. Is this by design or am I doing something wrong?

Try removing the metal plates from the front and back of the CF adapter, you might get faster speeds / stronger connection.

What was your transfer rate? Can you take a video of you using it so we can see how slow it is? most reviews of the EyeFi cards say its OK for one or two shots at a time but if your doing lots of pictures it takes forever.

Been eyeing the WFT grips from canon but $500+ is too steep for me. Been considering making a wifi grip using USB wifi parts (lots of guides on google)

Well it depends how tight your bag is, I have a backpack style bag with big heavy lenses in it (like the 100-400) so its possible for enough pressure to be put on buttons to register a press and wake the camera. Everyone's setup is different, just depends how your bag is set up.

Does the problem still happen if you let the camera sleep, THEN turn it off? Can you confirm if turning the camera off then removing and replacing the battery will prevent any battery drain or is it useless to try?

My experience is to get good light from the sky you need a long exposure. The problem is the sky moves and can blur even a 10 second exposure, depending on the quality you are looking for. If you take, say, a 30 second exposure you can actually get little streaks from the stars moving.

I would suggest get the fastest glass you have, in this case the 50mm 1.8 and shoot it wide open.
Most of the time you try to go as low ISO as you can to reduce noise but to get a short shutter speed I'd use ISO 400-800, I know on my 7D (and T2I before that) I found the noise acceptable until 800ISO. YMMV.

Lastly, just trial and error. The less ambient light the better. Bring a laptop or tablet to look at the pics in higher resolution as you take them and have fun!

Aw yis! first DNG's on After Effects. Looking good. Got about one second burst at 2530x1200 resolution on transcend 400x card. One frame shows a glitch but still a promising start.

I had just a minor issue after installing the 7dbooton.fir. The camera didn't start at all. I removed the battery but still everything remained black until i removed the card. The solution was to replace 7dbooton.fir with regular 7d000203.fir and update to that. The ML menu was still intact anyway. Not sure if it just required to remove the 7dbooton.fir from the card(?)

You only need that to set the bootflag on the camera once. Once its set your good, you can remove the .fir file with no consequence.  I just have the guide written with both the .fir and ML files on the card at the same time to make it easier.

My conclusion...
Leave the camera in photo mode
Set power save to something that will be convenient for you (1, 2, 5min etc)
Leave the main power switch on at all times

Impractical if your going to leave your camera in a bag where buttons might get pushed, draining the battery.

When you turn your camera off for the night, try turning the switch to OFF then removing the battery and plugging the battery back in again. Perhaps that will solve the drain issue? (A pain but less of a pain than a dead battery)

Ok, perhaps this is a little sidetracked but I'm having issues accessing the complete user guide from the camera. Trash bin, Help tab, Complete user guide, then its just an empty box (used to show everything you could want to know about ML)

Is this just me or other people too?
v2.3.NEXT.2013Aug04.7D203

The reason I was wanting to check is because I'm wondering about the silent picture mode. I know it takes info from the live view and from the search its supposed to make .422 files. When I tried it it made .dng files that I have no idea how to open or process.

I am also curious about the Silent Picture modes, Simple, Burst, End Trigger, Best Shots, and Slit Scan. Search did not yeild very many results on these, wiki seems slim in these areas, I just want to know what the differences are so I know when to use em.

Thanks!

**EDIT**
Downloaded the latest EOScard, deleted ML off my card, ran EOScard and now i have ML version Aug01? Isnt the latest version Aug06? Im a little confused... Also seems the Aug01 is missing the silent picture function (or at least its hiding really good)
#48
Yup all ya gotta do is get the card set up, once the card is ready pop it in the camera, firmware update, and your good to go!

Any chance for a mac tutorial as well? Or does it work on windows only atm?
Excellent work so far guys.

Run a virtual windows box. Wine is one i've heard about. I like virtualbox. That being said Im a windows guy.

Or, borrow a friends computer, library computer, school computer, etc.

Good luck!

How cumbersome would it be to add a changelog in there?  Would be nice to know what differences there are between releases, if its not something Im gonna use why update and potentially break something thats perfectly fine?
