Raw Video / Re: RAW Digital Cropped Video on 5D3

Really Awesome!!

Is the loss of detail too noticeable? For me, that is where the 4k makes sense..

Ok, Merry Christmas all..

It keeps recording until the memory card is full, but I am having strange results after the first file.

Did you try to use CF+SD ? In this case, maybe the second file will be as clean as the first?
About the aspect ratio, again, maybe "CF+SD" will allow to shoot 1920x1080 (or more?)

ps: your test is crazy, in term of detail and dynamic range, really really crazy, thanks dude..

It was in 422 YUV. Not in Raw mode.

Thanks, did you try to enable the raw mode (by hitting "don't click me")?

Some guys tested it (CF+SD) and i don't know if they were able to obtain a continuous recording, it would be awesome..

CF LEXAR 1000X  in my 5D3. I am able to record continues 1904x 960 at 24 fps or 1904x1080 x 20 fps for single file 422 YUV with lv_rec.

In raw mode?

Are these numbers real or there's a bug in my benchmark code?!
139MB/s for a 2GB file CF+SD or 118 CF only?!

Wow... F***ck**ing Impressive! So, if my english doesn't suck too much, the 1% last comment says that "Yes, it's real and not a bug"
Really crazy...

Also, someone already asked before but i'v seen no clear answer:

In term of quality, is there a difference between "Yuv422" and the 14bit raw from burst mode?

And why "Yuv422", is it prores 422 10bits? (so not as good as the 14 bit raw from the burst mode right?)

Thanks for what you do fellas, you're really crazy..

The only thing i can say is, "good luck my friends", you're doing your best, and everyone knows that..

I'm french, and here in Paris, everybody is talking about what you're doing, about the Bmcc too, because your exploit could change the game..

Some are saying that the maximum you can obtain is a few seconds @ 24fps 2K raw, some others are saying that you can do that

Let's the time tell us who is right..

Again, Good luck from Paris

Can we translate your "technical words" by, "any chance to obtain a real 2k raw @24 fps on the 5d3"?

Here is a great new article from eoshd about "raw video using Magic Lantern"..
http://www.eoshd.com/content/10294/3-5k-canon-5d-mark-iii-raw-video-with-magic-lantern-and-latest-updates

He seems to be hopeful about the soon future ..

With all improvements you made these days, are you (the ML team) optimistic about seeing a real 2k raw @24 fps on the 5d3? (when i say real, i mean a continuous recording video, or at least 1mn..)

Strength and courage my friends..

i'm not sure if that has been said before but, with the new 5d3 firmware (which allow an official hdmi output), did you try to record raw? With an atamos ninja let's say to an "SSD" ...

Raw Video / Raw video on 5d2/3, what does canon say?
April 29, 2013, 11:41:57 AM
Hello everybody, how are you? We all heard about this great announcement "Raw video on our 5d's", but no of us can say if a 2k 24p raw is possible. The thing which is indisputable is that the Magic Lantern team is working hard on it.

Tomorrow, the 30 april, canon will release their official firmware which will allow an uncompressed prores 4:2:2 8bit, through an external recorder.
Some people downloaded a "leaked" version of it, saying that there is no difference between the H.264 compressed file and the uncompressed one..

canon is making fun of us, and it is not a scoop, but, what are they saying about the fact that, MAYBE, Magic Lantern will find a way to record at 2k 24p raw? Why don't they help you to figure out this feature and make this possible?

We should ask them in person, if someone have a link wher we can directly talk to them, please share, and have a great day all..

Yes, it can record uncompressed, maybe this recorder will be a part of the solution? It will be available this summer (july for the "q" version, and august for the basic one).

The hyperdeck shuttle isn't supposed to record raw, only prores 4:2:2 10bits.. that's probably why you couldn't record raw i guess?

Or give a try again with the official firmware that canon will release tomorrow, the result can be different, i don't know..

And what about a recorder like the "Odyssey 7" (which is not available yet)

Raw 24p on the 5d3 sounds possible with this, am i right?

- Don't hold your breath for raw video. 24fps at 1080p is unlikely IMO, even on 1000x cards.

This part is the most important sentence that has been said since this crazy announcement.. So, people, this huge news is for "time lapsers", not for film makers, i guess.. Unfortunately, don't expect our 5d3 to be a BMC competitor..

Whatever, ML team, you do a great job..

So it will be a real 4:2:2 signal, really good to know..
Thanks for your reply A1ex, and for the work you do with magic lantern, if anyone has an other opinion about that, i would be curious to hear it..

Hello everybody, i've read a really strange think today, about the official April firmware for the mark 3, the guy talked about the 8bit 4:2:2 and says that, maybe, the firmware wil not allow a real 4:2:2 signal..

Here is his text:

"I have some doubts over Canon and Nikon's specs when they talk about HDMI. Canon say they have uncompressed 4:2:2 coming in a firmware update this April for the 5D Mark III, a full year after the hardware was released. The Nikon D800 it is claimed does 4:2:2 1080p out of the box. Is it really 4:2:2? This would require a significant change in the way the sensor is sampled. When a DSLR is skipping whole lines on the sensor just to read out a 1080p feed from a high resolution photographic imager, I don't see how it can be sampling 4:2:2. Rather, I think the HDMI coming from these cameras is 4:2:0 wrapped in a 4:2:2 ProRes format by the external recorder, and Canon and Nikon are possibly guilty of mislabeling it as true 4:2:2 when it isn't, much as the video is mislabelled 1080p when it is actually resolving far less in reality".

I would like to have your opinion about that, because if it is true, i have no reason to stay with canon..
#41
Ok, thanks,
can you give me more informations about "why is it impossible"?
#42
Hello guys, how are you?
We all know (or almost) that in april, a new 5d mark 3 firmware will be released, which will allows us to have a clean 4:2:2 file, perfect, but we'll miss something really important, "the canon log gamma"..
Some people will talk about the technicolor cinestyle, but we know how bad can be this picture style (moiré, noise)..

So, my question is, "is it possible to convert the c300 c-log (or 1dc) in order to make it usable in a 5d mark 3", and my last question is: "why no one asked for that? you think that the Prolost neutral is enough or the same than a c-log?"

With the new firmware in April, and a c-log, our 5d mark3 can become a c300, or a 1Dc "1080p", am i right guys?

Thanks for reading!

Feature Requests / 5d3, The perfect camera
August 16, 2012, 12:56:51 PM
Hello everyone, hope you're fine,

the best dslr ever for me would be the 5d3 with

- magic lantern as it exists

- a clean hdmi output

- a 4k (or at least 2k) resolution

-60fps at 1080p

Why do you think? Is that a dream or something possible?  damn, canon should put all these options in the 5d3, a 4000 euros camera, hope they'll do something in the next firmware. In my opinion, they will, don't you agree?

ps: i have the 5d3, and it's a nice camera, but without these options, it's just a little upgrade of the 5d2, pretty bad
