Hello.

I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me about the slow motion capabilities with the ML installed on a 5d2.

I saw there is this FPS override function, but I'm not sure if this would give me the same possibilities as on a 7D shooting slow motion in 50fps.

Best regards.

Slow motion can be obtained in 2 ways.  Making the subject move slower, or increasing the capture frame rate, and displaying the images at a slower frame rate.

Increasing the capture frame rate is considered a troll question.

So this leaves you with 2 options.

Make the subject move slower, or buy another capture system.

Thank you for your answer Audionut, but this does not really answer my question.

Questions are usually proceeded by question marks.

Lets consider my answer in detail anyway.

QuoteSlow motion can be obtained in 2 ways.

QuoteMaking the subject move slower

One would assume that you can't easily slow the motion of the thing being captured.
So, that leaves the only remaining possibility.

Quoteincreasing the capture frame rate, and displaying the images at a slower frame rate.

ML can't increase the frame rate, over and above what the Canon system does.

So,

Quotebut I'm not sure if this would give me the same possibilities as on a 7D shooting slow motion in 50fps.

If 50 fps is suitable for your motion needs, then life is all good.

However,

QuoteIncreasing the capture frame rate is considered a troll question.

In other words, if 50fps is not suitable for your needs, don't bother asking for increased capture rate (FPS).  This is a troll question.

So,

Quotethis leaves you with 2 options.

QuoteMake the subject move slower

Which will negate the need for a faster capture rate, or,

Quotebuy another capture system

Since ML is not capable of increasing the capture rate, and asking for otherwise is not advisable.

Either buy a casio ex f1 or invest in twixtor

I'm bit confused here.

Sorry if my question wasn't clear enough.  So I will try again.

Can you shoot in 50p on the 5d with the magic lantern installed?

I know that this is possible on the 7d even without the ML installed and it gives a nice slow motion when converted to 25fps. Only in 1280x720 and not in 1920x1080.

Thank you, so that's clear.

Just wondering why you said at one point, "if 50fps is suitable for your motion needs, then life is all good" it sounded like for a moment there that 50fps was a possibility!

Audionut

Well your original post was rather vague.  It was my understanding that the 5D2 was capable of 50fps.  So in that case, if 50fps is suitable for your motion requirements, then it is all good.  ;)

I associate slow motion capture as above 100fps.  The faster the better.

enginn

The 5d2 is not capable of recording 50fps and therefore I was curious if ML did open that possibility.

You seem to be sure it's not possible, can I take your word for it?  ;)
