thank you

when I push the button to take a picture, it just keeps making a whizzing sound and never really takes a picture in P or A+ mode .. please help

Reset all camera settings to factory defaults (including Fn), remove battery, reinsert battery and try again.

You're using a card without ML on it after installing ML? That usually results in a camera that doesn't boot. If this is what you did, you need to install ML to all your cards. To disable it, hold the SET button at boot.

no, i am doing this with the same SD card with ML

I see the camera menu and ML menu just fine but when i push the button to take picture, it just keep clicking like its trying to focus but never really gets to focus the camera

i can still take pictures in A-dep menu but they are very blurry.
None of the other picture modes work as the camera just keep making the whizzing/clicking sound like its trying to adjust zoom/focus

I don't know anything about the T3i, but I'd try rebooting and holding SET down to see if it still does that without ML. It could also be the version of ML you have installed.

This sounds more like something is screwed up with your autofocus or lens, try to set the lens to manual focus or with a manual lens if you have one and see if you can take a picture then, but I doubt this being anything related to ML.

i removed the lens and reinstalled it, that fixed the problem.
none of the other things listed here helped..

anyway, someone suggested that i cannot use any other SD card after i install ML on the camera, is that true? i thought ML was installed on the SD card and once i take it out and put in a new card, i can use the camera as original, please advise on this

thanks

No, this is not true. The information is not valid.
Camera will stuck if you make a card bootable and - for whatever reason - delete the ML files on this card.

Thanks a lot Walter.

PS: engardeknave .. please advice other people when you learn more about the software or the item in question

I'm sorry, I was mistaken. It's when you have a card with a bootflag set and you delete ML files from the card that causes behavior I described. I also apologize for assuming anyone in their right mind would first check the lens in response to any sort of mechanical AF problem.

My advice to you is to delete Magic Lantern and not reinstall it until you mastered such troubleshooting skills as:

  • Locating a menu item on your camera
  • Using your camera's manual to locate a menu item
  • Using Google to find out, in seconds, how to use any function of your camera
  • Taking off the lens and putting it back on
  • Taking off the lens and putting a different one on
  • Using the search function of a forum
  • Posting the appropriate section of the forum, cryptically titled "CAMERA EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT"

Hope this helps.

If you want to remove ML from the card DO NOT delete it. FORMAT IT. There will still be a command in the camera to look for ML but no need to worry about it. Although I believe this can also be removed.

lol this is exactly what I meant ..

You may have to read it a few times to understand this, so I repeat: please advice other people when you learn more about the software or the item in question.
It will really help everyone at the forum :)

engardeknave

Yes, I will "advice" them only after learning more about Magic Lantern. Like maybe after I compile a new custom build later.
