I am trying to install ML to my 5d mkiii, following various tutorials and forum posts.

Here is my progress so far: all files loaded to an SD card, ran eoscard, inserted to camera, but when I go to update the firmware in camera, I do not see ml-v2.3.NEXT

it only displays Current Firmware 1.1.3

any suggestions?  thanks in advance!

Are you trying to install raw video features or 5D3 alpha only?

I'm trying to install 5D3-113-bootflag.fir

When you go to the update menu does it ask you if you want to upgrade the current firmware?  If yes then click OK to set boot flag.  The ml-v2.3.NEXT is not shown because you have not have the alpha version running on your cam.

thank you for the reply. I appreciate you helping me out.

I am following this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AgyiJmrio4
He is doing a fresh install, and when he inputs his SD card he is able to see the ml-v2.3.NEXT displayed on the firmware update tab.

When I view the firmware update tab all I see is: Current Firmware 1.1.3

thank you for your reply Renato!

What are your thoughts on this:

In this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AgyiJmrio4

He is doing a fresh install of Magic Lantern onto his 5dmkiii, without a previous Alpha version running, and he is able to see the ml-v2.3.NEXT on his firmware update tab on his camera.

am i missing something?

It is possible that they have already installed ML.  So why do you not try what I am suggesting and do the upgrade?

its my first time installing ML and im a bit worried something will go horribly wrong :)

I guess im just being a bit over cautious. Ill go ahead and update firmware.

thanks for helping out, I appreciate it.

btw -  in the tutorial linked above he claims it is a fresh install of ML, with no previous versions of ML installed prior.

Feedback please?  Did you install?
I did, and it worked just as you said. I'm guessing he was as terrified as me since I was at the same point and asked the same question in this thread.

In any event, I moved forward and low and behold I got ML installed!
