Hi everyone !

im not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm posting it anyway.

i was thinking today when recording some raw footage with magic lantern raw
and i thought of the possibility of creating a device that will run magic lantern but this device will be the camera's brain's so to speak and it will just use the sensor of the camera (basically not using the camera's digit processor). the device would be like a sort of mini computer doing all the work and use the cameras sensor.
This via an HDMI or USB port o the camera since some of us shoot with rigs
and maybe with this particular device we can up the resolution for recording and also include sound inputs with xlr and 3.5mm one large file, but i think u get the point .

Regards & thanks for all the great work guys

This wouldn't work, you seem to have things backwards, the magic lantern firmware was made to unlock features of the camera it doesn't actually do a lot of processing itself as the hardware handles a lot of it, the real issues are not really how much power the camera has but how to get the footage out of the camera as quick as possible, the USB port is far too slow to be transferring that type of data and the CF card speeds are a bit of a bottleneck but the with the HDMI it might be possible to dump the raw footage as another user mentioned as a possible solution, taking the actual ML software of the camera itself would be pointless.

Is it possible to output a clean uncompressed/RAW image out through the HDMI port, if so wouldn't we theoretically be able to record at the cameras max resolution.....

This suggestion makes more sense seeing as HDMI is capable of transferring quite a bit, it would still require ML on the camera and have it output the raw data through the HDMI port to an external recorder which is what a lot of pro film cameras do to my understanding.
I would say it all depends on what versions of HDMI is the 7D using as that would make a significant difference and if it's even possible at all for the ML devs to dump data this way which might just be impossible to begin with nor would it be high on their todo list ATM, I hope not it would be fantastic to bypass the CF card limitations.

sounds complicated,  :o

Thank for your reply !
i still hope the community looks into the possibilities for such a device
it would be revolutionary if possible ! 8)

It's called the Axiom

As what you're basically suggesting is a whole new camera.
