intervalometer LED options

If possible could the intervalometer have an option to only flash the camera's LED when a photo is being taken instead of flashing every second?  The reason being is that I am attempting to set up a light detect system (using my son's Lego Mindstorms kit  )  that incrementally moves a slider based on when the LED flashes - using it as a trigger. 

I am working to better understand the source code and how to change this myself but any insight would be appreciated.   Perhaps someone could point out where in the source the LED is controlled by the intervalometer.
