Hallo I have question. I want to buy a Atomos Ninja for my 50D will this combination work???

You'll get YUV with black bars on everything except I think 5DIII.

The image won't look anything close to raw... The black bars on the edge of the screen will reduce the resolution dramatically. It should be 422, but the image might only be good for editing proxies... What do you think?

As far as i know ,the hdmi out of Canon eos cameras is 4-2-0 so there is no 4-2-2 .
There is no way to record raw video onto external video recorders yet.

No that's Wrong! The HDMI with ML software
Is 4.2.2  8bit 16-235 colorspace .
The image is very close to raw but with picture style applied
I use nijna on 5d2 for backup to ProRes 422Hq or proxy prores with overlays turn off.
I did a short video about this , look on the a.d. 5d2 thread.
