I need the fir file that goes with the 113 firmware in the root directory. I am familiar with ml and used it before.
some-xxx-bootflag.fir (see special cases)

Where is this file? Its not included in the zip file like the stable release.

First, why don't they include the fir file in the nightly builds like they do for the full release? I already have the firmware updated, I need the fir for 113 which I cannot find to save my life. I saw the lengthy tutorial but can't find the one file I need. The install could use a little simplification.

I followed that procedure with all the files that were given. Everything worked fine. So I decided to try using the nightly build by replacing the files in the sd card with the new nightly builds and the camera locked up. I did not format the card, just deleted the old data and put the new stuff in. So I figured that the nightly builds needed something other than what was in that tutorial, basically starting with 112 install of ml and then installing 113 fw and then replacing ml files.

So this is why I asked about the fir file for 113. I thought maybe the nightly builds needed its own fir file since mine wont work.

Why is it an issue to include the 113 fir file ( not firmware from canon ) with the nightly builds?

Steve Ryan

Me too!  There is a nightly build for the 5D3, but there seems to be no way to load it.  I have tried with and without reformatting the card after using Alpha 3.  I have tried with and without running 5D2-113-bootflag.fir.  I have read scores of forum posts and at least one installation guide.

Help, please.

The .fir file is only used once to set the flag, it is never used again.  The nightly builds just provide the latest advances to the code, and it is not meant to provide you with installation software that is why there is a wiki install guide: http://wiki.magiclantern.fm/install

You typed 5D2-113-bootflag.fir but you are using a 5D3?

Nightly build for 5D3 works just fine with no .fir needed haven't needed it all but once. That is why they are not included.

So maybe mine crashed for some other reason then. So you are saying that once we get ml installed on a card, all that is needed is the bin file and ml directory?

I asked the question before but why not make a 113 firmware fir file? Is it difficult?

Googling resulted in no help because there are to many false hits and the forum is littered with posts to track down.

Thanks for the repilies

Exactly, to the best of my knowledge the .fir only sets a flag in the camera.

This little detail cost me hours and hours googling time. Thanks, I will give it a try again!
