650D - RAW (image) files - cannot import

I have Canon 650D. Firmware 1.0.4. Have successfully installed the current Alpha ML release, all appears OK.
My question only relates to images, I don't shoot video.

Since ML install I cannot import any RAW files (.CR2) into Lightroom 5 or Photoshop CC either direct from camera or by copying from SD Card to Desktop and drag/dropping. This is on OSX 10.8.4.
I can see the files, they appear OK, I can preview, jpg previews are also generated but any import fails with the error from LR5.

The following files were not imported because they could not be read.

I've tried reboot camera (remove battery.) Shooting RAW or JPG. Different cables. Different import methods (Copy/Move etc.)
I've tried with ML SD Card, and have now just tried with a different in camera-formatted SD card, same result.

I've also tried Canon's EOS Utility and this just crashes immediately with 650D connected/or when 650D is switched on. See below for sample of EOS Utility error report.

Is this a known issue? Can anyone point me towards other possible solutions? I can't find anything at all on these forums or elsewhere but most import questions seem to relate to RAW video, not images. I've trawled the wiki/user guides as well but I'm still hoping it's some d'oh dumb mistake from me rather than a complex problem.     Thanks.
