Yes Many Image import softwares (like Adobe Bridge, Image Capture (Mac), etc.) won't import the RAW videos (because the format is unknown for them) and you can't change other extra files you might have (ML files for example). So you need a card reader to be able to get the RAW videos you shoot or update ML. I think it will be cool to be able to directly access SD from the USB Cable.

okay so your talking about accessing protected files, gotcha, okay but well you know you can get a card reader for like $10us, I mean the time it takes to plug in a USB cable to your camera and what not is the same amount of time as mounting your SD card in a card reader, in fact Im able to do it quicker then leaving it in my camera which simply waste my cameras battery and just adds wear and tear to the camera itself.

Maybe you don't have UHS104 cards and are using slow UHS-I cards?

You guys are saying that when you use the UHS-I cards in your 650D, you can't get above 30-40mb/s ? Because as I researched, I found out that UHS-I UHS104 cards can record up to 104 mb/s with 208 Mhz clock frequency, but only 50 mb/s with 100 Mhz frequency.

Maybe you don't have UHS104 cards and are using slow UHS-I cards?

The card is not the limitation (if you get a 45MB/s card).  The hardware in the camera is what runs at 100 MHz and cannot be changed (entirely new level of hacking, start your own forum).  The bus sends 4 bits per clock giving a theoretical max of 50MB/s.  IRL we are seeing ~40MB/s on testing.  Not trying to be a jerk with the bold but incorrect capitalization when taking about such things might get you bit.

I know that's the camera hardware which runs at 100 Mhz and not the card. My point was that if even the camera supports higher transfer rates, your card should still support higher rates.  Anyway sorry for the misinformation.

So concluding from your information, the only way to support higher transfer rates is to overclock the camera hardware. right?

I would test the overclocking if I had a useless camera in my hands and I didn't mind if it broke. But I really test magic lantern on my primary camera which I use for daily stuff and I'm worried. If it breaks, I'm dead :p

So my system seems to be working.   Not so many new here, but at this time a complete summary of how to do all of this,  cradle to grave,  so to speak by you experts would be huge.  I am speaking raw of course.

Not sure if this is an option for you (and not to knock the T4i, it is a great camera with ML), but you might consider the 50D.  I believe the 50D has RAW video support and a CF card slot making it the cheapest option for 1080p RAW video.  The catch is that there is no audio.

I think when I upgrade my camera, I'll probably hold out for the Mark II, Mark III or go a different route and get a Panasonic GH3 (just for video). The GH3 has some amazing sharpness in video, it's virtually unbeatable (unless up against a Mark III with RAW video).

For me I reloaded ML and finally I had 720.  Something was wrong somewhere or ass Walter said "fishy"

This would be better answered in a post processing workflow thread.  It has the advantage that all ML RAW video users will be able to give answers.  In the post processing of RAW video, it has more to do with your platform (Win/Lin/Mac) and tools.  You might want to start with the below thread and check out the other threads in Post Processing Workflow section.

For my part I import the DNG sequence into after effects, apply some color correction/white balance with camera RAW and then export a lossless video, which can be edited in Premiere.

At 1476x626 23.976 the RAW video bitrate stands around 35MB/s , so in a 32 GB Card we can theoretically record around 15 minutes of RAW.

EDIT : Magic lantern says the bitrate is around 35MB/s when recording but after verification the real bitrate is around 38 MB/s .
(RAW File 1476x626 for 273 frames@23.976fps = 430 249 KB)
So the recording time on a 32GB card is more like 14 minutes.

The real capacity  of a 32GB card is always ~2GB smaller.

That's because windows count in GiB without saying it !, but when you check the properties you can see that the space is pretty close from 32GB (for my card : 31 855 968 256 bytes)

Ok guys. I have a shoot in two hours and would like to get magic lantern on my T4i w/1.0.4. (Had it on my T3i but sold it.) I tried repeatedly to get ML on this camera. Followed the instructions to a T. Low level formatted the card(new sandisk 16G sdhc 1), Copied the unzipped Download onto the card. Unzipped it on the card. Put it in the camera in manual mode.  When I go to do the firmware update it tells me 'Memory card containing firmware is required to update'. Don't recall having this problem installing on the T3i. What am I missing?? Any suggestion??

The only step that I can remember doing differently is that I saved the zipped file to my computer and not the SD card. Then I extracted to the SD card only the files that the archive contained. Why have the zip there ?
