I have a idea for a new feature. Can't we have USB mounting functionality? I mean to be able to access the SD through the usb cable. I know ML loads from SD but if we able to achieve that, it will be a great help to people who do not have a reader handy!

I actually can try to implement the feature (I am an embedded C developer), but the thing is I'm not familiar with the ML code and don't know if it's possible or not (Because the thing I said in above.).

The question is when ML loads, does it need SD card to continue operating or it has just been already copied in the memory?

right now I can shoot at 640 because of my card.  With the aspect ratio set to 16:9 I should have 640/360.  But what I get is 640/258.

This is the same as the 1280 instead of 1280/720 I get 514

1280/514 = 2.49
640/258  = 2.48

so my processed images (for the 640 right now) are elongated.

I would appreciate any ideas on this to help.

The binary is relocated in memory at boot, but we need to read config and such from the SD card. Also, canon needs the SD to save photos..

I know that, but we can just stop that functionality for a while, mount the sd to the usb, let the use transfer photos and what he wants to do and then we can remount it on camera and continue the operation. Just like the approach that Android takes.

While hopefully someone can help with the aspect ratio, I did process this this way. raw2dng, into PS6, dots, did stuff, used QT to reassemble, no dots .

Could you explain to me how this is different from just hooking up your camera now to your PC and browsing the folders on the SD card through the computer?

I am, of course, intrigued by the possibility! I'm a video student with a limited budget, and at this time can't afford to either upgrade to the Panasonic GH3 or the Canon 5D Mark III (two cameras I really want to get my hands on!)

So I'm looking for any way to increase the sharpness and professionalism of the footage coming out of the 650D.

Not sure if this is an option for you (and not to knock the T4i, it is a great camera with ML), but you might consider the 50D.  I believe the 50D has RAW video support and a CF card slot making it the cheapest option for 1080p RAW video.  The catch is that there is no audio.

I can get 1280*720 out of my Sandisk UHS1 card, but only at 24fps, thats a big factor, if you are shooting even at 25fps you'll get dropped frames or recording will stop.

Would it be possible for you (or anyone)  to outline your settings for doing this.  As you might see above 1280x720 does not appear for me.  So maybe I have some setting incorrect.

All I did was made sure that my video mode was set to 1080p 24fps in the standard canon menu.  then it allowed the higher resolutions.  The raw mode overrides the res but the FPS has to be set in the canon menu.

I just tried to set the resolution to maximum and it is 1728x1156 when Canon's setting 640x480 is used.
In 1280x720 (Canon) ML switches to 1728x692
in 1920x1080/24 back to 1728x1156.
Of course continuous video is impossible with the given interface ...

David, please make sure you are using the most recent build by satriani.
There is something fishy going on with your cam.

Yes Many Image import softwares (like Adobe Bridge, Image Capture (Mac), etc.) won't import the RAW videos (because the format is unknown for them) and you can't change other extra files you might have (ML files for example). So you need a card reader to be able to get the RAW videos you shoot or update ML. I think it will be cool to be able to directly access SD from the USB Cable.

You guys are saying that when you use the UHS-I cards in your 650D, you can't get above 30-40mb/s ? Because as I researched, I found out that UHS-I UHS104 cards can record up to 104 mb/s with 208 Mhz clock frequency, but only 50 mb/s with 100 Mhz frequency.

Maybe you don't have UHS104 cards and are using slow UHS-I cards?
