I'm just wondering if anyone can help me out on this. I am going to be making a music video on the 5DII and am wanting a very slight slow motion effect. So Im going to film in 30fps and then convert to 24fps.  I understand that on the day of filming I will have to speed up the song for this to work.  So, does anyone know at what percentage I need to speed up the song for this to work.  Thanks

how about adding the music to a 24p video clip and then reconform (and speeding up the sound at the same time) to 30fps

Or if that don't work Quicktime Pro has an option to stretch audio to video with the 'Add to Selection & Scale' option from the Edit menu.

(I think that works ???)

Hi!

Check this music video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPQvaDbsZxI

This was made in the same way - 30fps to 24fps. This is about 80% (I don't really remember. Try 83 or 84.)
Cheers!

mageye that makes sense. Excellent thanks!

motionpikczer thanks. Thats a great video. Was it filmed with the 5DII?

Thanks for nice words!
Yes, we use 5d mk2 and Samyangs (35mm and 14mm) / Glidecam HD2000.
Unfortunately, we did this music video before the magic lanter raw comes :)

I know it might not make a difference but with ML firmware you can reach 35fps, the HD video helps with motion blur but frames helps with smoothing the edges a little more.

The only frame rates available for the 5dII are 24, 25, and 30

I can get 37.8fps on my 600D. Thats with hacks on, global draw off and Liveview off. Can get 35.5fps with liveview on. Put it on 24p in the canon menu and it will play back at 24fps...slow motion.

On my 5D2 can only get 31fps. Anyone know if there is a difference in image quality?

simple mathematics. song has to be speeded up to 30/24 = 125% to be in right recording speed. after slowing down video = 30/1.25 (or 30*0.8 ) you are back on 24fps.

So now I can just quickly convert the mp3 to a speed of 125% in Soundforge. Easy! Just the answer I was looking for.

I think I have my 5DII recording at up to 35fps now.

My mathematic ability isn't great, so if I was to film at 35 fps, at what percentage would the original song need to be increased to when playing the video back at 24fps.

Thanks again for your answers.

Care to share how? Can only get mine to 31ish?
